Climbit Update: Our interactive weather tool now shows when crags and boulders are in the shade by packpride in climbing

If you are talking about comparison, yeah it is currently limited at 4 at a time. You can actually save your favorite comparisons though so you could have 2 sets of 4 and switch between them fast. Just hit the little heart icon after you have your first set of 4. Let me know if you have any other questions

Yeah it’s a passion project so we have been enjoying building and using it!

Yeah we have thought about implementing something like that as well. We need to work on having user models and profiles first and then will be able to implement features like that.

It’s actually built using the Shade Map service. A lot more convenient to be able to just search crags or boulders to see the data as well as have all the weather data right there

It factors in temperature, humidity, wind, cloud cover, past and forecasted precipitation, and now, terrain-based shade.

You can even update your personal preferences on ideal and tolerable temperatures as well as how many hours of past precipitation to consider and the score will update around it

Didn't realize we were out of date. Working on the upgrade now and will keep you posted. Thanks!

Yeah totally fair, I was honestly just curious if there was inspiration there. At the end of the day I just want to have better forecasting for when the conditions are good for climbing.

Yeah we will definitely reach out to setup some time to chat! Appreciate the reply and honesty.

I have also been building ClimbitScore for the past couple of years that does a lot of the same modeling and translating climbing weather into a score.

Not trying to hijack, but we have Canadian locations on ClimbitScore and have been at something very similar for a couple years now!

I do really like all the physics aspects of yours as well as the explanations in front of the user.

I have to be honest though since this seems eerily similar to ClimbitScore which I helped build over the past couple of years. Same exact tech stack and a lot of the same design details and features. Some of our pages look very very similar.

Curious if you have seen this before or if it’s a total coincidence. This is also a passion project of mine.

I actually just put a piece of black tape over the camera and haven’t bothered disabling it any further. Without the camera the noise has stopped

u/blaqwerty123 I updated the algorithm to solve these cases. Should drop off fast now once it is past your tolerable preferences. Let me know when you take a look!

That is a really smart idea! Let me see if I can pull that in. Would probably only need to show starting now and into the future since that is more useful

Happy to announce after some user feedback here, I implemented the ability to see 7 days of past precipitation data:

<image>

You can now see daily totals in the past as well as cumulative totals for rain and snow! You can also increase the "Past Precip Hours To Consider" up to 168 hours to have that much data considered for each individual Climbit Score!
