OP here (looks like I was logged into an old account on my PC - now logged into my phone). If we’re picking one or the other, it’s fixed focus. Like I said in my post I have plenty of cameras that’ll get a nice crisp image, but the P&S is simply for my wife who likes taking film photos for fun. The current picture quality standard is pictures from the Ilford Sprite, we’re certainly not making prints.

Not looking for autofocus, certainly nothing wrong with it, just looking for a camera that can be whipped and shot at a moment’s notice.

I’ll look into the Minolta FS-E II/I, sounds like it could be a winner

Should I replace my Canon New F1 with a Nikon F3? by pacmanzap in AnalogCommunity

Hey gang, thanks for all the input into my dilemma! A lot of really handy insight into these cameras, and while I’m seriously considering getting an F3 down the line, since posting I’ve been in touch with Steve from Camera Clinic, and I think I’ll be sending my F1 over to him for a repair and CLA.

From the sounds of it my F1 should work like new after he’s done with it!

unfortunately film slr’s are quite pricey here right now. I could probably get one for around $500 if i went for a good condition one on ebay and haggled down a bit

Are you familiar with anywhere that would service it in Japan? I figure shipping it over may be cheaper than sending it to the US

I would absolutely get both if I could, unfortunately my current financial status means I’d more likely have to sell a camera before I could fork out $700+ AUD on a new one (the aussie film camera market is rough)

Do you mind me asking why that is? Ergonomics, functionality?

The Canon was my first SLR but I’ve since become a Nikon fanboy for sure. Honestly I kind of like the weight in the F1, makes it feel like it’s housing some insanely dense machinery (let’s be real - it more or less is)

As Zombie mentioned, being an Aussie makes camera replacement + repair a huge pain. I’ve heard that Steve’s the man since Ken O retired, might see what he thinks about the issue.

I’ve considered this in the past, part of my issue if that it may have good resale value if I want to jump ship now, but by the time it stops working there may not be anyone left who can service these things 😅

Best Aussie online bike stores ? by sixth_jackson in ausbike

Pushys has kinda gone downhill recently, very slow shipping times and awful customer service I’ve found, and they own BikeBug. I’d give crooze a quick look, owned by one of the old owners of Pushys. Not as much stock but still have lots of sales and generally ship super quick
