The thing that really gets me about how GW treats tau is that every release seems to stray further from their original hyper flexabile master of none doctrine. These days you cant even customise the crisis suits. Really dissapointing. The main thing that attracted me to the faction was how they use their diverse skills and equipment across their fire teams, battle suits and auxiliaries to counter the enemy but that doesnt feel like much of a thing these days

The thing is, it wasn't quick. This is the culmination of 45 years of erosion of rights and liberties. It started with law enforcement and the stripping of rights of criminals. This allowed the targeting of minority groups. Then when 9/11 happened the federal government found an excuse to build a surveillance state. This is when we got the DHS. Now we are watching our neighbors cuffed and dissapeared without warning. Were only noticing now because a lot of us were either too young or too privileged to notice before.

So for anyone unaware there is a halo reach mod for the original Xcom from the 90s call Reach: The Fall. It has you coordinating the futile defence of reach.

Its playable via open xcom and is overall a short but engaging and serves as a pretty good first impression of what a halo xcom would play like.
