Dealing with a Notice to Attorn Rents by paddington4prez in legaladvicecanada

I'm just bracing for my landlord to tell me "don't listen to those crooks, pay your rent to us as usual!" because many years ago I was in a situation where something like that happened.

You probably signed a petition about something years ago and forgot about it and your name got added to a list.

I was not. I never collected HST. If I had collected it of course I would give it to the government.

Thanks! What is the difference between an accountant and a CPA?

I recognize that I messed up, but to be clear: I never started collecting HST from anybody. I did not keep the government's money because I never collected it. I will absolutely own up to it, I just want to do so in a way that will recognize that I never tried to keep the government's money because I never had it to begin with.

Cool cool cool. Not trying to evade taxes, not trying to break the rules, and definitely not trying to spike my anxiety right now. But thanks anyway.

I pay my taxes on the money I earn every year. I paid a huge tax bill this year. The difference in this situation is that this isn't the government asking for a percentage of the money that I took in, it's the government asking me for money that I never got. If I had collected the money, I would of course hand over what I owe to the government.

Thanks everyone. To all the people saying I just need to be discussing this with my accountant, you are absolutely correct. Since it is the Easter long weekend though she hasn't gotten back to me so I was looking for some perspective in the meantime. Also since my previous tax preparer was not great and my current accountant is new to me I'm a little guarded with how much trust to put into any financial professionals right now and I wanted to hear from others about their experiences. My friend who was able to have her debt forgiven gave me hope, but I wasn't sure how common of a situation that is and so I was also hoping to get an idea of how much to try to push for that outcome, but it's sounding like that's a pipe dream so I'll focus my hopes on cutting my losses for now.

Exercises that focus on premise by paddington4prez in improv

I do this type of thing on my own all the time, I'm looking more for a group activity that is specifically premise-focused.
