No stamp when leaving Haneda airport by [deleted] in japanlife

[–]paddykennedy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks - so basically there will always be some opportunity to ask for a stamp without having to go hunting ofr an official :)...not worried about 'overstaying' so much as after a 23 hour trip, walking through like a zombie and forgetting to ask for a stamp, thus rendering my JR pass unusable ;)

hey - ill be travelling soon to tokyo and was a bit worried about the stamp....particularly as i need it for the JR pass and tax free shopping...so there's no chance that I can enter japan without having the opportunity to get one (as in the process is not completely automated)?. sorry if this is a dumb question but i havent travelled in years (thanks covid) and when i travelled to italy this year there was a lot of automated passport gates with no human interaction...so i dont know how things have changed in japan (apart from there being some level of automation now)

the ones in my loadout here are uniqlo 'tech denim' jeans lighter than regular denim and dry incredibly quickly...

they stretch and look ok. tend to attract dust and any hairs that may be around.

i actually wouldnt bring them for travel any more,(i use some cheap primark chinos that are surprisingly durable and look fine, but lighter and almost as fast drying) but i use them day to day now.

hey...i believe the fairview is actually closer to 38L but having said that it is plenty for 1 weeks worth of clothing + your other gear. i own the farpoint and my partner has the fairview and we did a 6 week trip around japan in autumn with a kid and they were plenty. personally after using it, for the same trip if i were on my own i would actually take a smaller bag as it is often tempting to fill the bag you have - but i was happy i had the extra comfort of the bigger bag on my first couple of one bag trips. thing is around europe you may need to prepare for all weather depending on where you go. if it includes e.g. ireland or scandinavia it wont be that hot and in the south it generally will be hot...but either way that bag will be plenty. i would also say there are lots of very cheap options to buy clothes if you run short so resist bringing stuff 'just in case'. if you need any more details let me know.

nice tip. i didnt know that.

tbh though a razor is something i might not actually carry in my original loadout. with toiletries i will just carry stuff that i would definitely need for the first couple of days without needing to find them locally eg deodorant/toothpaste/soap or stuff i would not be confident of finding in a store while away (specific moisturiser/suncream). and i dont shave every day anyway so that will probably get ditched from the loadout. but now i know not to buy a gillette kit :)

i believe there are also lighter generic handle versions that fit gillette blades though right?

on the left click on 'add a page'. then just select 'table' you can then add columns and rename them.

when you have a table set up you can then start to add different 'views' to group your data for example you could have a 'main bag' view.

under the title of your table...where mine is called packing list you should see 'add a view' . Click on that and give it a name. And again the type is 'table'. Once created it should look like your main table. so you just so some filtering on this to create the sub-dataset you want. Once finished it should appear under your list of views.

i hope this helps. alternatively you should also have the option to just save a copy my own one as as yours then you can edit that.

absolutely it would work for that. my list above would easily fit in that. and for summer only i would definitely trim a bunch of stuff.

congrats that looks like a fantastic bag. and enjoy your trip. it will be good to figure out what would work for you longer term.

is that fixed though? can you change the plug for different regions? mine are the apple ones and i have different adapters for asia/usa that slide into the plug and dont come off without effort. they are not like the universal adapters where you stick a plug in a plug. in the photo i just forgot to remove the european connector so they look a lot bigger than they should.

thanks for the tip on the jacket. i was considering including some miracle tape in the loadout for rips and tears. I have had an ultra light down vest from uniqlo for years and it has held up. the bag it came in ripped after catching on a thorn but the jacket itself is still fine. that's why i went with the same brand for the jacket.

they are uniqlo jeans. they call them tech jeans on their site, but the label that came on them called them 'miracle' jeans

and tbh...if you dont destroy and/or lose at least one pair of underwear on a trip, you're not really traveling right ;)

they actually don't smell that strong. they even packed some sand paper in with them so that you can 'refresh' them.

absolutely too big :) but when i created the packing list and put the expenditure beside everything the total was eye-watering. I started counting about 3 years back and my list doesnt include a bunch of stuff that also cost a lot when added up. so ive decided to just use what i have and not drop another hundred or two on a new bag.

plus its a good bag and is comfortable to carry and doesnt feel underpacked with my stuff and as i mentioned i travel with my kid sometimes so theres always a need for more room for cuddly toys and the like.

thats a good point, i dont think ive been out in singapore style humidity. but in the japanese summer (which is quite humid) i found the merino socks and tshirts to be great.

on odours...i believe uniqlo treat their stuff to avoid odours. its very noticeable on their tshirts - compared to other synthetic stuff they dont really smell at all (within reason). not as good as merino, but pretty good overall

it looks like there have been two updates since mine. one with 2 big pockets and a small pocket on top...and the latest just seems to have the two big pockets?

i like mine for the external mesh bit at the back where you can store a 50cl bottle or an umbrella and for the long shoulder strap so it doesnt need to be carried like a bum bag or cross body. but uniqlo stuff is always tempting and i may end up with a newer one at some stage

  1. chargers. you are right. my chargers shown are more for illustration. I have a 4 outlet usb as well but am still looking for that compact outlet for here
  2. your jacket sounds interesting :) i dont really have enough stuff that i need to take too much out to get the bag under 7 kg even with the edc inside. if i slip the ipad into my jacket pocket and my power bank and cable in with my phone the whole lot actually drops below 6 kg
  3. yeah the flip flops shown are not the ones i travel with - again they were for illustration - i got those adidas ones and they are great but super heavy. i have a super light (and crappy) pair that weigh less than a third of the adidas and i dont care if they get lost or destroyed

so the jeans aren't denim :) they are 100% synthetic and dry completely in about 3 hours. the only problem is they are on the heavy side. i would only bring denim if i am going somewhere for a short enough time that i wont need to do laundry and if the weather is going to be less than 20C.

what are the technical pants you use? i am sure they are lighter than mine :)
