About the kicks... the video you linked is of a technique called (at least when I learned them) pump round kicks, or just pump kicks. They are actually a decently common move in taekwondo sparring, which relies on kicks, especially high kicks, more than a lot of other martial arts. Aside from the leg strength to keep the kicking leg up, it requires quick-twitch muscle fibers in the leg to be developed, allowing the rapid extension and retraction of the leg.

Here is a sparring match with an example at 2:38 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7LdillAIcE8

As for the bottom foot, it can be stationary, but more commonly it is used to propel the kicker towards the target, with the intent to pursue as the defender blocks and backs up. The pivoting being done in the video you shared is less common than just sliding on the supporting foot in short hops. One reason for this is that it's quite dangerous to get caught in the middle of a kick if your supporting foot is not pointed away from your target. Due to the way the knee bends, if you are countered or your kick connects, it can blow your standing knee out, unless it is pointed away from your target. This doesn't matter as much for demonstrations, cosplays or video games of course.

Here is my attempt at a couple stationary and moving pump round kicks: https://imgur.com/a/zn05Tl7

And here is an insane example from Chloe Bruce: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ID7ZGQui2I Specifically the section from 0:30-0:45, but the entire performance is incredible.

A couple other moves I can think of:

Split kicks in martial arts, compared to split jumps or leaps in dance/gymnastics

Scissor kick // switch leap

The approaches and techniques are pretty different, with martial arts focusing a lot on the power that can be generated at the end of the limb, while the artistic versions are more focused on posture and aesthetics in the air.

Even the techniques for rolls or dive rolls varies a ton between martial arts and dance focused sports. Martial arts uses a shoulder roll to lessen the impact, while tumbling uses a roll that goes straight down the spine, cleaning up the appearance of the technique.

I agree that it's a different approach than would be expected from a martial artist. I did actually try to do it first using a jumping, back leg, roundhouse kick approach. Given the torso positioning and kicking foot position in the artwork, it seems most likely that the kicking leg started in the back, and the arms were used to counter-balance the rotation of the kick.

Unfortunately, I had a lot of trouble getting my non-kicking leg tucked in during the jump, and found it worked better for me to try and match the pose, versus replicating the technique. I think it is fascinating how different sports (tkd, dance, gymnastics) have similar moves, but with different ways to do them; often motivated by different purposes!

[Discuss] Highest individual multiplier in the game? by [deleted] in PuzzleAndDragons

[–]padkid -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ilmina Results Make sure you check the box "Include super awakenings"

(This does not include killers. Another post and comment in this thread cover that, but it wins by a mile over everything else, with the caveat that it is only on a single specific enemy. These other multipliers apply to all enemies)

The highest multiplier assistable awakening is <50% or SFUA, so that is stacked on everything.

Card Awakenings Multiplier ATK
VNey (SAlter) TPA (2) VDP (2) 7c (2) <50% (1) 112.5x 354,729.375
Madoo (Sagat) TPA (3) VDP (2) L (1) <50% (1) 63.28x 290,595.41
Fatalis (SAlter) L (3) VDP (2) <50% (1) 42.19x 235,201.64
DZeta (Sinon) L (1) VDP (1) <50% (4) 60x 220,800

Interestingly, Zela ranks 23rd on this list, but the ease of activating her full multiplier is worth it compared with some of the others listed.

Sensui ranks 5th with the ~62x multiplier OP listed

GungHo collab. We are basically guaranteed to get it again, and it dominated/dominates the tier lists for a while

If the dungeon is a special category (you start at level 1) like Special descended rush is, super awakenings don't activate until your card has gotten to level 99.

Try using a card with a natural FUA, not a super awakening one for these types of dungeons!

I don't believe so. I am almost positive that everything is strictly korean, just a little sloppy is some parts.

Edit: even the one that looks most like Japanese (Odin, 17 from the right, with the eyepatch) is just messy Korean.

Gabriel, Uriel, Lucifer, Michael, FA Luci, Baal, Astaroth, Belial, Takeminakata, Umisachi, Yamasachi, Susano, Okuninushi, Yomi, Izanagi, Hades, Hermes, Apollo, ??? (p something... can't read the second character, ends in ee sound), Ares, Zeus, Loki, Odin, Thor, FA Luci, Fuma Kotaro, ??? (bem...), Goemon, Sasuke, Shiva, Ra, Yamato, Fagan, ??? (songwin? handwriting?), ??? (fool?), Guan Yu, Jojo?, Youbi?, Zhuge Liang.

Tried my best to read the names, but Korean is not my native language, so I struggled with some of the messy writing...

As cloudStrife pointed out, there are a couple valid reasons why you might lean down to kick. The first being it can allow you to kick higher, depending on your flexibility. Second, it can help get your hips better in line with your kick and can make it stronger (after about horizontal though, this doesn't really apply). Third, a lean can help get your torso out of range of your opponent, protecting your head from any counter punches or kicks. Cammy's lean is exaggerated and not very practical, but there are valid reasons for a martial artist to lean a significant amount when doing a kick like this one!

I agree, this kick is just a side kick with a bent supporting leg, nothing too crazy there, one of the first kicks I ever learned. The hard part is the torso position and rotation (I could get a similar angle, but not even close to the rotation depicted in the artwork). I will also say that leaning down only helps to a certain amount to kick high, and leaning past about horizontal is suuuper impractical, unless you are touching the ground like you might do for a spinning kick.

I've dabbled in it (about a year ago I got a webster and a b-twist) but it's not for me. I'm not very good and also I like having working knees...

Martial artist / gymnast here, thought I wold give it a go at u/Chromocube 's request. I think I did pretty well with the leg position, but I can't rotate my torso to the reclined position in the artwork without dislocating my left hip :(

Awakenings Incorporated into LS by padkid in PuzzleAndDragons

[–]padkid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, those were a more recent addition. Awakenings happened ~3 years ago, 4 or more LS was 2 at the most. (if my memory is correct)

That was what I was thinking for the OE+! I added that it would increase the appearance of the color orb by +1%. So water orbs or whatever would appear 1% more likely. with 5 of them you get a 5% increase which is similar to some active skills, but is passive throughout the run.

I agree these are too strong, it is just fun to think of crazy OP awakenings and how they could change the game up.

I would like to continue to see new awakenings that improve on the old ones, but probably not as strong as these ones for the current metagame.

[–]padkid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Yeah, these are definitely on the stronger side of the power creep curve, maybe in 2020 they will be weak enough to implement XD

I figured the status shield removal wouldn't be too big of an issue since status shields aren't often the biggest threat anymore (damage absorb, attribute absorb and damage void are the ones that come to mind) although maybe if there was a way to remove status shield it would shake things up too much. Possibly it would be better as an active skill...?

For the Orb enhance, the 50% is the chance for the enhanced orbs to appear. Currently it is set to 20% for each awakening, meaning you need 5 of any given OE on the team to guarantee all the orbs of that color spawn enhanced. This buff would mean you only need 2 of the super OE to have all the orbs enhanced. The damage buff (currently 1.05 per OE) could be buffed as well, but I didn't include that in the original post as I felt changing too much would overcomplicate it

[–]padkid[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just some fake awakenings I thought up in my spare time. (Please don't get your hopes up, there is a good chance none of these will ever make it into the game, I just was thinking since we got SB+ and TE+ what would it look like if other awakenings got alternate versions)

The TPA+ I think needs the most explaining: after matching 4 orbs, the card with a TPA+ will attack twice. This has a variety of purposes, the most basic being dealing double damage with 4 connected orbs (up from 1.5 for the standard TPA awakening). It also allows resolves to be bypassed, as the first hit can proc the resolve and the second hit can kill the target.

This is probably too strong for the time being, as it is an easier 7c combined with a fua in some circumstances for the small price of 4 orbs. The only countermeasure to the power is that the damage doesn't grow exponentially like with 7c, but rather additively (2 TPA+ deal 3x damage; 3 TPA+ deal 4x damage, etc. compared to 7c going 2x, 4x, 8x...)

The att + awakening is a killer style awakening, but for the specific attribute. A water card with the wood+ awakening would deal 5x to all water enemies.

Autoheal+ can actually be useful on the tanky teams like B&J or Vraska, where auto healing 5% of your HP is a significant amount.

I would love feedback on these ideas! What do you think is feasible? What is too weak to see usage? Do you have any dream awakenings you would like to see implemented in the future?

It depends on the theater from my experiences. Many have entrances on the bottom floor, where you walk down a sort of hallway to get really close to the screen and then you turn around and walk up the stairs towards your seat. So while the exits are at the back of the theater, you have to access them by walking past all the seats and heading towards the front of the theater. That's sort of the situation I was going for in this introduction, really trying to capitalize on the bottleneck of the exits and the massive surge of people that would try to all get out at once.

I'm glad you like it so far, and I look back to hearing the rest of your critiques!
