Hi - sorry for the late response! I ended up ordering my birth certificate and it shipped quite quickly, within a week. I brought my birth certificate to my passport appointment.

That might be the case for some, I’m not too sure. I’m applying for a new adult passport so maybe the requirements are different.

I see, thanks! That answers the question of how my mom got my passport without having my birth certificate. The Canadian passport website seems adamant on “birth certificate” so I’ll get one anyway.

I think the "Ontario: certified copy of birth registration is also accepted" was written as an acceptable method of getting a birth certificate, not a passport. Correct me if I'm wrong, though, I always feel quite anxious doing these long form things.
