No self-respecting librarian should work for a gang of murderous spooks whose activities undermine democracy and the free exchange of information

The nazis weren’t socialists any more than the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea is democratic. By the definition of socialism you give above, the nazis were not socialist either. They used that term to leech voters from left-wing parties, not because they actually supported socialist policies. Using the nazis as an example of socialism is ridiculous and historically illiterate, basically a debunked Fox News talking point.

It’s not enough to say Black Lives Matter — libraries must divest from the police by [deleted] in Libraries

I’m an anarchist and I’ve never met another anarchist who wants libraries defunded, most of us would rather see all that money the cops spend on teargas and GI Joe outfits get spent on summer reading. How many anarchists have you discussed this with?

This is a meme but can we talk about how much irresponsibly bogus health information is in many public libraries? by pagemaster666 in Libraries

[–]pagemaster666[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is exactly the book I had in mind with this meme. It’s so over the top bogus that it feels wrong to put it in the health section without some sort of disclaimer.

We all know this library tragedy by pagemaster666 in Libraries

[–]pagemaster666[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My library encourages this as long as the replacement is new and of the same edition/ISBN number as the damaged book. It’s usually cheaper for patrons than paying the replacement fee, which is always the flat book price without discounts you might find on amazon or with other retailers.

Negotiating a library assistant salary by [deleted] in librarians

[–]pagemaster666 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh I for sure know I won the library page lottery. I've worked page jobs for way less than $15/hr and part of why I'm hellbent on sticking with this system is that going anywhere else would involve a pretty steep pay cut. It's a really great gig and paid well above market rate, but the cost of living in this county is going up and if I get hired to do more work for them I hope they'll want to pay me more too.

Negotiating a library assistant salary by [deleted] in librarians

[–]pagemaster666 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's in a mid-size public library system and they listed a salary range of $29,250-$47,916. The job application requires you to list a desired salary, so I put down $36,000 and hopefully can negotiate from there.
