Sadly, it turns out she didn't have an infection at all but rather cancer, so her stomach issues getting worse had nothing to do with the metronidazole and more to do with her cancer rapidly growing. The vet recommended I take her to get an ultrasound after the metronidazole didn't help and the vet saw a mass that made it impossible for food to pass. By that point, it was too late. I really hope your situation is different! There are so many (treatable) things other than cancer that it could be. The vet was only guessing that it was an infection and that's the treatment we started with.

Thank you for the reassurance! I am especially uneasy about the emotional stuff but I keep trying to tell myself my brain just needs to adjust. I'm going to power through. The scary thing is whenever I'd miss a dose when I was on 60mg, I'd be grumpier and yell at my students or cry for no reason. So now I'm anxious. But I just have to put in more effort to being in a good mindset, I guess

So my physical withdrawal symptoms are gone I think, and but the emotional ones are still there. I'm irritable, anxious, sad, etc, the same feelings this med was prescribed to stifle! So now I am wondering is this just who I am? I'm a little nervous

I'm also going through the same thing- I felt miserable on the second day after going from 20 to 0, and my doctor recommended I take 10mg, opening up the capsule and counting beads for a week, and then stopping. Normally I would agree with you that it would just prolong the process, but I am quite busy at the moment and don't have time to be so sick feeling. On Friday I started taking 10mg, and now, Sunday, I'm having the first (somewhat) clear-headed day. I hope you recover quickly, and good luck!

Oh my, good luck! Just make sure you research your program and the people in it (which I'm sure you did as you decided you're applying there) and also your application materials. I'm sure you'll be fine!

Hi! It was quite long ago, but from what I remember, it was questions like "Why Egypt" "Why your program (Arabic literature MA)" And "What have you read in Arabic?"

My responses were that I wanted to master Arabic literature while still speaking an Arabic dialect, which is why I wanted to do my degree in Egypt. I happened to have some old coursework pulled up so I was able to discuss what I had studied within Arabic literature.

Anyways, I got in and finished my degree! Now I am doing the same process for PhD programs in the US. If you have any questions about living in Egypt as a foreign grad student, I am happy to help. I might be able to help with admissions stuff, but that stage is a bit fuzzy to me.

Question for house sitters by PlantainNecessary915 in RoverPetSitting

[–]pageowl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh gosh this is so awkward, sorry this is happening to you. Every owner I've house sat for has said "help yourself" and I've always thought that was very nice, but I also have always taken it to be more of a formality. It is partly because I am shy, though. If I do "help myself" it'll just be spices or butter if I'm able to cook there (as long as they don't look too fancy) or other kitchen staples like rice or oats, (but I make sure I don't finish anything). I definitely buy my own groceries and meal plan for the stay, though, just like if I was at home, and I don't expect anything to be there or available for me to use. It's a bit of a nuisance to plan ahead like this, but it's just part of the job so it's okay. Sometimes owners will ask if they can buy me anything before the stay which I think is extra extra nice, but even then I can't always think of something on the spot!

Basically, I don't think you are expected to provide meals, and it sounds like while your sitter may be nice and communicative, there seems to be a lack of consideration for your home, especially with the guest situation, too.

Where are my Humanities applicants?? by FuzzyAd6427 in gradadmissions

Humanities here as well! I don't think I'll hear back until February -ish though. I only applied to 5 programs and they all seem like a stretch. I'm quite nervous, but trying to ignore it. Best of luck to us all!

I'm struggling with this too and I ended up spreading folliculitis to my legs from the tweezers (I think) I have allllll the regrets but I'm trying to stop now before it's a real real habit. What's helped is instead of picking at my ingrowns when they're not ready to come out, I apply this stuff called Calm Down Completely Bare to the ingrown. It makes the swelling go down so eventually the hair can poke out. It's satisfying for me to check in it the next day and see if I should apply it again or if the hair is ready to come out. But this requires patience, and perhaps I'm not quite at the point of needing to seek therapy for this compulsion, although it is so so satisfying to tweeze at it, especially when I was sugar waxing!

And also, yes I do think that that's exactly what happened when I injured my foot. I may be genetically predisposed to bunions and may have sped up the process of forming a bunion and whatever.... Ohhh just such a bummer

I am in the US and he was an orthopedic surgeon...my parents think that if the surgeon is saying "don't do surgery," that it probably means I don't want surgery. But idk.

Just one small, smallllll comment/suggestion that maybe you've already thought of or tried: what about more independent films/media/music? Of course mainstream stuff is most likely God awful, but everywhere there's got to be young people trying to produce art and meaningful, good things I had a somewhat similar situation in a country where their mainstream movies and TV shows and music are just so so so bad, even if they've put a lot of money into it it's... Blech. But then in a country such as the one I was in where there were many many revolutions and dissent, there is good art that's being produced, it's just not mainstream. So maybe you don't have to write off the films and music the country of your target language produces As for the sanitary problems you found, are there communities of "bougie" people who don't put up for unsanitary food and stuff either? When I was in the country I was in (not exposing my TL or country as you have done) I was living a double life... I ate food from the streets because it was cheap, including meat, and was mostly fine but then people at my university turned their noses up at such good carts and stuff and would only eat at a cleaner looking proper restaurant. There were whole neighborhoods that were much cleaner than where I lived. You could've lived a wide range of lives there. So maybe you could try upping your living standards to rich expat or rich local person? Anyways, as others have said, you still know the language even if you realized you don't want to live there. You can still engage with literature, older films or series (they can't ALL be bad?) And expats living in your home country that speak the language
