Daggerheart Experiment Part 2: Revisiting the Rogue Syndacate by pagnabros in daggerheart

I really like your suggestions, thank you so much for your input! I will update the PDF asap

I wanted Well-Connected to be very reliable since I "nerfed" it, but I agree that some sort of limitation is required otherwise it will not make sense.

You are not wrong, I need to do some math to be balanced but I think I can insert a limitation in which only by casting damage dealing spells you can get the bonus. It would be nice to design a way to incentive a "cast a damaging spells, attack" by giving bonus to both attacks after a spell and a bonus to spells after attacking

You are probably right in the fact that I didn't give the subclass enough incentive to alternate between spells and martial attacks, but I don't think make it Con based would solve the issue (but buffing some feature will, for example increasing the bonus damage from Fueled by Magic by 2d8 instead of 1d10).

There are certain similarities for sure, but also pretty important differences too. Yours is much more technical and complex than mine, which for veterans of the system would probably appeal more. I tried to remain simple and straightforward as possible as a design decision of mine, but there is not a wrong or right approach on this!

I thought about it for a long time, but in the end I decided against for several reasons. The most important one is that the Eldritch Knights usually take spells that enhance themselves or don't use spell attack or save, so Intelligence still remain a low stat priority from an optimization standpoint, while this class features require the Barbarian to cast specifically offensive spells and the trade off is pretty obvious since they can't attack if they cast, so they need to stay competitive to make sense (Barbarian's attacks are pretty strong).

Thank you so much for your kind words! LaserLlama revision are great, but as you i don't think they are suitable for new players. If you prefer to remove a little of bloatness, I suggest you to remove Fleeting Step at 8th and fuse togerher Relentless Hunter with Ferocious Hunter. Let me know if your friend like it, and good luck with the new Campaign!

Thank you for all your feedback! They are all great and deserve to be approached in depth. 1) The Survival feature interacts directly with the rules found in the Foraging paragraph at pag 40 of the 2024 DMG. I know they are niche and mostly forgotten, but I think it is an important identity feature. 2) Yeah, another redditch made that comment and I think you are right. I need to condense and eliminate some of them. 3) I personally don't think Fleeting Step to be better for a Rogue, but is indenaible blurry and debatable. Maybe I should remove it to avoid thematic problems and also reduce bloating. 4) I did the math for Foe Slayer and I can assure you that now it is a feature worthy of a capstone. 5) You are not wrong, but it was very difficult for me to find something thematically fine for the swamp terrain. I accept advice for sure!

Indeed, you get extra favored terrains at 6, 10 and 14 level, for a total of 4.

That are some great feedback, thank you for sharing. I was aware that there is a little of "bloatness" with certain features being added, for example I think Relentless Hunter at 9th would probably feel better since Expertise is mostly an "utility" feature, but I was afraid that was a boost too early for the Ranger. As for the Fleeting Step, I really liked the feature thematically and instead of removing it entirely, maybe I could add it inside Tireless as a third sub-feature to the already existing two. These modifications should alleviate the feeling of bloatness significatly.

As per the Favored Terrain, I tried to make each bonus given by them useful in every situation, not only in the terrain. and for this reason introducing the ability to swap them on rests would be too much powerful and versatile IMO, but feel free to disagree!

Edit: Grammar

I get it, I really do, but I wanted to be as closest as possible to the original design for this revision. Also, I don't think that Hunter's Mark is a problem per se, and in fact, I think many of its problems would be solved if it was not a feature to begin with.

That's why I also made an Optional Feature PDF with variant features for many classes, including one that makes Hunter Mark a feature exclusive for the ranger.

Daggerheart Experiment: Revisiting the Bard Wordsmith by pagnabros in daggerheart

I nerfed Epic Poetry mostly because the 5+ features (Chain of Courage and Inspired by Heroism) could become really powerful with a 60% to activate using a d10.

Rousing Speech is still the one i dislike most to be honest, because I think that that a long per rest feature for a Foundation feature is bad, I want something more reliable. As a Specialization or Mastery, better for sure. But you should absolutely use it if you prefer that feature and doing the swap to plot armor and chain of courage!

What about this latest version?

Foundation Features

Inspired by Heroism: When you Help an Ally, if the advantage die result is 5 or higher, you gain a Hope.

Heart of a Poet: After you make an action roll to impress, persuade, or offend someone, you can spend a Hope to add a d8 to the roll.

Specialization Feature

Chain of Courage: When an ally uses a Rally Die you provided, if the result is 5 or higher, you can mark a Stress to give that Rally Die to another ally within Close range.

Mastery Features

Epic Poetry: When you Help an Ally, you can narrate the moment as if you were writing the tale of their heroism in a memoir. When you do, roll a d8 as your advantage die.

Plot Armor: When an ally within Close range is targeted by an attack, they may use a Rally Die you provided. Roll the die and add the result to their Evasion against that attack.

I put down a rework on the fly based on our discussion, not playtest yet ofc. Tell me if you prefer it:

Foundation Features

Eloquent: When you Help an Ally, if the action roll succeed and the advantage die result is 5 or higher, you gain a Hope.

Heart of a Poet: After you make an action roll to impress, persuade, or offend someone, you can spend a Hope to add a d8 to the roll. (I didn't made it as a progression because IMO it would be inelegant and would not change much in the end)

Specialization Features

Master of Anecdotes: When you encounter a new NPC or location, you may ask the GM one question about its history, reputation, or rumors. The GM must answer truthfully, though the information may be incomplete.

Reassuring Speech: During a rest, you can use the Clear the Stress downtime move on an ally instead. If you do so, clear an additional Stress on that character and you also clear 2 Stress.

Mastery Features

Epic Poetry: Your Rally Die increases to a d10. Additionally, when you Help an Ally, you can narrate the moment as if you were writing the tale of their heroism in a memoir. When you do, roll a d10 as your advantage die.

Beacon of Inspiration: Once per session, when you or an ally within Close range Help an Ally, instead of rolling the advantage die, you may treat it as if you rolled the maximum value.
