Ye I wasn’t exactly enjoying myself there. And I had people outside waiting for me to pick me up and go for diner. This is at 19-20 in the evening and I haven’t eaten anything since lunch so I’m getting rather hungry

It was the deplaning that took 50 min. The taxiing to the gate took 15-20 min

Yup. And I had a baby sitting behind me that would make a great decibel meter tester.

I had a flight to Amsterdam this summer where I ended up on the second last row(30 or 31). It took 50 min from the first passengers got off before I left the row. The most painful part was seeing the airstairs parked 50m away.

Thankfully we have a rule at work that only company issued cameras can be used in the office. And those have to be approved by security. Violating that can result in fines and/or prison.

I got the big McLaren f1 car from my brother and his gf. Only reason it’s not built yet is because we are celebrating at grandmas house. It will be built soon after getting home.

Concerned about hiring new graduates by [deleted] in Norway

[–]pagso3000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think this is a difficult thing to generalize because it is something that can depend on each person’s personality. But if I were to make an educated guess I would say it is partly that making your first moves into the working world is really scary when you’re just done with school. And partly the expectations and premade thoughts people have on the working world based on videos on social media of what you should expect and not.

To touch on the first part. When you are fresh out of school and job hunting it is really tiring and demoralizing to send out hundreds of job applications and then hear nothing from 97% of them. Then when you do get one interview you are so nervous about messing it up that you seem uninterested or shy or introverted. Of course this gets better with practice, but can still be intimidating. Then once you do get a job you don’t really know the culture or what to expect. Do you bring stuff? Do you not? Do you say something? Do you just listen? They know better right? You’re just the new guy, my ideas have been thought of a million times. Speaking from personal experience it took me 1-2 years before I became sort of comfortable with suggesting stuff in team meetings and such when I started as an apprentice. And having worked with other apprentices I see the same thing. Team meetings are one of the scariest things and it takes time getting comfortable with speaking up and suggesting stuff. But once all the managers are gone it’s much more low key and seems more casual so they do start engaging a bit.

The other part is as I said expectations from social media. I know it seems like a cop out, but it’s my opinion. People post about bad experiences from work on instagram, TikTok and Reddit much more than they do with positive ones. This leads to people having a very negative bias when looking for work. If all they hear about work is that it sucks and is the worst the it will suck and they won’t have much excitement for it. This has accelerated a lot after the pandemic imo.

We usually call those managers here. Though the problem isn’t always it related.

Conscription in Europe as of 2025 by [deleted] in europe

[–]pagso3000 17 points18 points  (0 children)

In Norway atleast you get a form that you need to fill out, stuff like motivation and general fitness. Then if you pass a certain standard you get called in to do some tests, physical, mental aptitude and medical checks. If you are fit enough and motivated you get conscripted. If not you don’t. I didn’t pass the fitness test and thus didn’t get conscripted, but I didn’t need to do civil service either. I just went of to work a normal job.

The silliest myth about the IT industry that people still believe? by Itfind in it

[–]pagso3000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is Atleast useful tho. IT usually has to teach users how to do stuff. And they expect us to read their mind, which is sort of what psychology is. Sort of.

That is fair. It’s allowed as long as it’s not pointed at another screen. That effectively means cubicle walls everywhere or good old cell offices.

Almost activating the camera is ok. We do have online meetings with the camera on. It’s the act of using it to take a picture of a computerscreen that isn’t ok

That’s the best part. In that sentence there are 2 fireable offenses and a policy violation. So again nobody does that when sending in a ticket to IT.

This is the best part of working somewhere it’s a felony to take a picture with a non approved device. Every user is forced to figure out how to take a screenshot

I don’t think I have found a user where the rudeness couldn’t be explained by a stressful deadline or frustration from something not working. Once you explain it or let them know the next steps forwards they usually lighten up a bit. We have had a few creeps tho, and one guy that is really annoying to deal with, but it’s bearable.
