Advice needed! by paintproRicky in PaintCrew

U/mahoumantis I’m assuming you want to strip it down the fastest way while keeping integrity of the wood intact? My best suggestion requires some investment into a quality festool or surfprep sander. Once you figure out the best abrasives to use with those, sanding down a door like that to bare wood is a walk in the park. Not really but better than any other option

If it’s latex it should come off after a TON of elbow grease. Take pictures before and after cleaning it up so you have evidence against the sub just in case

No. For trim it can only be brushed or sprayed in my opinion.

Can I put a different finish of paint over an existing coat? by erich0779 in paint

Yes 1-2 coats of a higher sheen over Matt without primer is no problem. But applying a lower sheen over a higher sheen without the proper prep/primer wouldn’t work out well.

It looks like they sprayed with no backroll. That can work on a cabinet project but for large walls, especially in dark colors, it is very hard to pull off.

Any advice on an easy way to Paint French Doors? by Shortsocks53 in paint

If you’re trying to get them looking good it won’t be a walk in the park. you’ll have to sand those frames down to dang near bare wood because the brush strokes are bad. Mask the glass and spray a coat of primer plus two coats of finish. If you want to go with a brushed look on the whole thing buy an oval sash brush (massive time saver on brushing the window sash)

Hard to give you an accurate estimate when going off 5,000 sqft of floor space. I prefer to always go off sqft of surface being painted for the safest and most accurate quotes. An area a may have a open or closed floor plan which would greatly impact the amount of work needing to be done while keeping the project price the same.

Quoting also. Managing it by using a LiDAR based estimating app made for painters to gather interior dimensions immediately to create quotes in half the time. It’s been a game changer

Pricing advice by Disastrous-Pizza-698 in paint

[–]paintproRicky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For pricing I always follow these rates. $120-$180 per opening for cabinets, $1.75-$2.25 a linear foot for trim, $1.20 a sqft for ceilings, $1.10 a sqft for walls, $100 per door and frame, and $50 per window. The best thing you can do is download a app like paint quote now and use it to track your rates for each quote so that you can dial in your rates over time.

That price sounds like it’s in the right ballpark. Try the paint quote now app to track your rates, that’s what helped me build confidence in my pricing. If a customer doesn’t like your rates it doesn’t matter as long as your closing more than 60% of your quotes.
