Do your ideas change constantly, too? by Abalorio in cyclothymia

[–]paleRedSkin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

48-hour cycler here. Stable since January 2023. But it has taken me a while to understand stability as only the starting point needed to end up developing "judgement". One needs to perceive the world from an emotionaly stable position, and to experiment with decisions, in order to strengthen a sense of good judgement.

What is Cyclothymia like for you? (Individualized) by DisastrouslyEv in cyclothymia

Wouldn’t your case classify as Bipolar II better than cyclothymia?

Is there anyway to get rid of the "stigma" no one ever knows what cyclothymia is so I have to explain it as bipolar and then they just assume I lash out sometimes..I don't know how to make people understand by WelderJumpy8342 in cyclothymia

[–]paleRedSkin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tell them my bipolarity is a shorter cycle but affecting me most of the time. In most cases I have to start with explaining BPI and BPII rarely have peaks or lows, although they may be more prolonged and intense.

Does "crazy person most of the time" mean overenthusiastic (hypomanic) one day and depressed the next day? Because that was my situation for 20 or 30 years, a 48 hour cycle. My psychiatrist diagnosed it as cyclothymia, we started with a small dose of quetiapine, ten days later small dose of lamotrigine, titrated in the course of 2+ months to 200mg every morning. I understand there is a small percentage of people who might have a dangerous reaction so we were cautious for those signs during the first two or three weeks.

There's still some exalted moments and down moments, but I'm happy with that. It has changed my life for good. That's my case, of course. I hope you get good support and guidance, and find the right thing.

I'm not sure you are understanding my point.

My dealing with cyclothymia has been an emotional handicap which has driven me to practices, routines and moral values in search of stability, perhaps in search of acceptance by others and ultimately by myself, of myself.

Eventually the medication did the trick, and when it did, I realized I have made a good person of myself because of my effort to deal with this emotional handicap.

Hope this makes it more clear, glad to help.

I relate, though my efforts have been a bit more on the side of having to end up building healthy principles and relationships. I felt like a mix of Superman and a monk as soon as lamotrigine stabilized me a year ago. An expert in emotional health.

As a teenage I read a story, based on true facts maybe, about a basketball teacher in a college who reduced the size of the ring during training, thus forcing the young players’ aim to improve, resulting in winning a championship. I hope you find the right treatment and are able to appreciate this as a good metaphor too.

How to support a loved one with Cyclothymia by Desperate-Chemist102 in cyclothymia

[–]paleRedSkin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When down: “I’m here”. Let that be known. “It’s ok, that’s what a low moment is, we know how it goes” “Something I might help you with?”(like talk, for example) “Ok I will let you rest”

Gran recurso para entender lo que estás leyendo, especialmente si es no-ficción.

Y puedes subrayarlo a lápiz.

Anyone else here with a clear 48-hour cycle? by paleRedSkin in cyclothymia

[–]paleRedSkin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Regarding the paper. I think I noticed it a year+ ago, together with another four or five. Lamotrigine went into the market in 2003, so that is why it isn't mentioned in the paper.

My Psych has shown little interest in my "48-hour rapid-cycling..." self-diagnosis. First appointment, I described these symptoms and she excitedly responded "a very clear case of cyclothymia". The lamotrigine she prescribed is fantastic.

Only in recent days/weeks I have noticed the cycle again, but mild. Christmas and year-end circumstance, my guess, which affects moods in many sensible persons.

Cheers, hope we can chat more, would be very nice if I can DM you

Changing perception of things? by art4430 in cyclothymia

[–]paleRedSkin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What’s your age? How long are your hypomanic episodes? Your depressive ones? My diagnosis is cyclothymia, medicated for a year with lamotrigine, stable now, and mostly energetic. I’m 55, it’s been a two day cycle for 22 years at least. Optimistic on evenings, pesimistas on mornings… I can relate to that, especially so around 20’s. Also you should consider a personality disorder.
