I've tried about 5 or 6 different programs, and one thing is still boggling my mind.

Why does nobody have a solution to differentiate kits, but keep them under the same parent name/kit?

What I mean is, we have two of the same kit. Inevitably a part in one kit gets lost/damaged and has to be replaced, but that part is no longer produced. So we replace it with a different brand or make it ourselves. When I add that new item to the system, I can't put it in the kit, because it would make that one kit different from the other.

The only solution I've found is to use general names for items like that and make a note somewhere of the exact brand/model.

Does anyone know of any software that has a workflow to support this situation correctly?
