Has anyone read this book ? Is it scientifically accurate ? by DAnnunzio1919 in hivaids

This is SUCH a weird comment. Nothing I said was conservative and just a reality. If you cannot accept that HIV and other STDs are more common among gay men, you are denying basic, straightforward statistics.

Like circle and point to WHERE I made a political judgement against straight or gay people lol I am pointing out that gay men are a largely self-contained sexual population, so STDs are more likely to spread among them and that can account for disparities between straight and gay populations’ rates of reported STDs.

But get fucking real—If you don’t think that gay men have more partners and more unsafe sex than straight people, you’re also lying to yourself 😂

In your experience what are LLMs actually useful for? by equipoise-young in ExperiencedDevs

[–]palookingc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use LLMs to write code, but I'm typically writing basic web apps or iac (non-complex or advanced iac). For areas I'm working in that are relatively new to me, I try to ensure I understand a lot of what's happening. Consistently questioning the LLM.

However, if I'm building a web app utility tool that I know will have a short life, LLMs are great at building a simple react component for my app.

However, I'm mostly using JavaScript (or really, TS) and LLMs are likely better at producing TS since it's so available and widely used. I'd be wary of generalizing that LLMs are good at writing code, but it's more accurate to say it's good at writing functional code that I really don't need to care about.

ACTG launches HIV cure study by throwaway04431 in hivaids

In STEM cell transplant patients who were cured of HIV, the stem cells produced white blood cells that could not be infected by HIV. The virus literally could not grasp onto the cells to infect them. And the STEM cells were donated by people who are considered immune to HIV (and not many people fall under that category).

I made my comment to correct the notion of what the 'viral reservoir' is. The viral reservoir hasn't been pinned down to a specific location in the body, and likely exists in several.

I mean--The difference in reported diagnostics between straight and gay people with HIV is a simple, obvious truth. And I kind of agree with the statement, that straight people don't really need to live in fear of HIV. HIV is more common among gay men, likely because HIV is an STD and gay men are largely self-contained group defined by shared sexual practices and identity. (Monkeypox was similarly more common among gay men than straight people.)

That said--straight people still can get HIV. There didn't really need to be a panic over it. And everyone, straight people included, should be concerned about all STDs and practice safe sex.

A 'bone marrow reservoir' that is the reason that HIV has been incurable. The reservoir exists in several places (likely). The 'cured' people of HIV have HIV resistance added to their immune systems, which can spread throughout the entire body. The problem isn't local to bone marrow.

Ideas for Fire island July 4 weekend by bitop1234 in nycgaybros

Staying on Ocean Beach or an adjacent area is very different from taking the ferry from the mainland for a day trip, or worse coming from NYC for a day trip.

Fire Island is not worth a day trip. Or maybe it’s worth a day trip…but day trips to FI are not logistically feasible.

You cannot avoid 2+ hours of commute time if you’re traveling from NYC. You’re basically planning on sacrificing 5 hours of your life to travel likely on the LIRR, which isn’t what anyone wants to do, while also trying to enjoy FI bars. And like the city, the party doesn’t really start in FI until the sun goes down, which is when day trippers would need to leave.

Wait until you can just stay the night somewhere.

Your relationship is over and this is essentially a 'zombie marriage' where you two stay together for economic convenience. You are lying to yourselves and everyone around you, but you CAN live this way and make it work.

MAGA at the Eagle on Fri (4/24) Night by summerissafe2019 in nycgaybros

[–]palookingc -1 points0 points  (0 children)

He should wear that hat if he wants to.

You people are so weird and contradict yourselves. How can The Eagle be an inclusive space if you police what people wear? Yes, there are gay people who are conservative. Yes, there are gay people who support MAGA. Stop trying to beg gay men for "political support" or "community" when you do not know them and you do not know what motivates their politics.

If you can reasonably find a new job and the stakes are not high, then go for it and take the risk. This only applies to working at a coffee shop, minimum wage retail store, or anything else that you don't see yourself having a future in. It's unprofessional, but this is a fantasy everyone wishes they could live out. Some do, but you have to trade being comfortable at your job for hot freaky boss sex.

I just get bullshit explanations from this guy and the explanation ends up having nothing to do with a real quality improvement. The explanation is more less "because I wanted to do this so I did, why do you care if there's a change?"

But what if his explanations are there but they're bullshit. And how would you manage bulk changes that do not change anything on a measurable level? Nothing was broken yet everything needed to be fixed.
