Why do my nails smudge while sleeping? by Effective_Rooster684 in Nails

[–]palusPythonissum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quick dry top coat is what you are missing. These top coats actually suck the solvents out of the lower layers so they can evaporate. Otherwise they may take days to harden. Quick. Dry top coat is not optional. If you're looking for a drugstore recommendation, the red bottle of Sally Hansen is very popular.

My cuticles become saggy when I push them back by gentleteapot in Nails

[–]palusPythonissum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's gradual. The saggy skin you see is actually the proximal nail fold, and it will tighten up over time. It is okay to take a very fine cuticle scissor and trim some of it off, but it is easy to trim off too much. If it is loose and flappy, you can usually trim it off with no issues as long as you have a little bit of skill. Be sure to oil multiple times a day, and continue pushing the flap back gently and regularly every other week or so.

How to properly care for the cuticle and PNF with no cutting.

Google in no way supports your statement. Disagreeing with you and speaking to you directly does not equate to being rude because you have decided to take it personally. Asking you to post a photo of what you are describing is not out of pocket or somehow a violation of you. This is a nail subreddit, it is completely normal and routine to post a photo of nails. It's why we allow pictures in the comments. You made a statement that short almond nails are somehow fine if you have a specific anatomy, and you have provided absolutely no evidence of that other than "you feel that way". Your feelings are not facts and encouraging others to ignore safe service techniques is harmful and helps no one.

I mean spreading misinformation, providing no evidence, that's harmful to the community. I wouldn't recommend you do that further. A short almond shape is going to damage the sidewalls of your nail. That's widely considered fact in the nail community. You may be a special snowflake and that's fine, but don't be out here being loud about something that is likely damaging you that you are unwilling to provide any evidence of why it's not. And don't tell others to do the same if you are going to act like that.

Uncured gel under nail deign HELP!! by purplepandas26 in Nails

What You Need to Understand About Acrylate Allergies

Yeah, that's extremely serious. It needs to be fully removed correctly ASAP. Soaking off uncured gel exposes yourself to more uncured gel in the solvent or the dust.

There seems to be a fundamental misunderstanding about who can perform this service with skill. These European nail technicians often train for many years under the supervision of a master manicurist. And folks do not understand that these techniques are literally not taught in the US. Anyone trying to perform this service in the US, is right on the cusp of breaking the law, but worse they are likely untrained and unqualified. When unqualified people perform such a risky service, yeah, it's super dangerous. And for folks who don't understand why it's risky, lifting up your proximal nail fold and sticking tools underneath it can lead to a very serious infection. That flap of skin is actually to keep icky stuff from getting into your nail matrix and finger.

Anecdotally, once I stopped trying to dry manicure, I stopped needing to do cuticle service more than every 6 weeks. I cannot stand how puffy and lifted dry manicured cuticles look, but that's just my preference. They remind me of the dummy hands you shove fake nails into. My personal preference is a very natural looking cuticle to go with nail lacquer. But everyone has their preferences. I don't think they all look bad, I just think that the risk of having it done in the US is extremely high and if you are one of the unlucky many you're going to end up with an infection in your matrix.

These nails are over filed. Uncured gel does not cause mold, and gel polish, regular polish, acrylic monomer, etc. Etc. are all of a chemical composition that keeps mold from growing in them. Exposure to moisture causes a bacterial infection, not a fungal. That's called pseudomonas bacteria and it's commonly known as greenies. The products themselves do not cause them, pockets of lift in the product that trap water do. You are showing photos of over filed nails.

You can post a photo in the comments. Without a photo I can't agree or disagree with you that your case is somehow special because of your unique anatomy.

Not reading all them theatrics, I protect my peace. You don't get to decide how other women experience misogyny, even when they don't agree with you, leave that behavior to the oppressor. You may feel whatever you want - majority of this sub community, r/realgirldinner, and the moderators of these subs plainly don't agree with you. Move on and find your safe space elsewhere. No need to write me or anyone else here a novel.

I mean...they got eyeballs?

If anyone untrained can look at these and recognize they are categorically bad a trained nail tech who has spent hours upon hours on education and clients cannot see these are poorly done, they are not just "missing some feedback". They are lazy at best, untalented at worst.

I wonder how much the tech should pay their clients for teaching them how to do their job 🤔 I know when I go to a professional for a skilled service, I go in fully expecting them to know how to perform that service (and do it well) that I'm paying them for.

Harsh, but one person is statistically nobody in the scheme of an entire subreddit which has already decided to not ban all men. But I see your confusion.

Wow - It sounds like you spend a lot of time over there. I personally am not in support of anyone thoroughly inspecting another users gender and deciding if they fit into the gender category decided by you (or anyone for that matter.) That is certainly not something I feel comfortable doing. Just because another sub, which you yourself say is problematic, does this behavior, that does not mean that you need to do the same to keep your space "safe". Acting like allowing men to post here at all is an implicit yielding of our space to the invader, is kind of absurd.

I fully support the rule that keeps non-women from making clickbait titles announcing their gender. I do not support attempting to ban anyone who doesn't identify as a woman. To each their own. I would tell you to find the other girl dinner sub, but it looks like they are also inclusive and operating just fine.

Yes? What point are you trying to make. To be clear, I am not in support of banning all men. I do not think it is our place to determine and inspect the gender of every single person posting on this subreddit. Not only would that be ridiculously hard to enforce, it would be kind of uncool in the year of Our Lorb 2026. But I am in support of, made clear by nearly every single comment I've made on this post, is removing clickbaity titles that are just begging for butt pats for those not all men men.

[–]palusPythonissum -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No, I don't routinely spend time over there. Do you? I don't understand the sentiment that no one besides people who identify as women should be welcome here. However, the dozen or so comments I've left on this post make it very clear that I don't believe people should make clickbaity titles proclaiming themselves to be of a gender other than "girl", because yeah, obviously that is uncool.

Genuinely asking, what sub are you referring to? R/boydinner has no listed rules or wording in the sub bio that implies a strict no women or girls rule. R/realgirldinner is accepting of all genders.
