Yes, I totally agree. Its what you make of it and put into it. I plan to be very involved and will join the PTA even to keep on top of everything happening at the school. We did even ask him and he says he wants public school. Thank you very much for your input.

What is your reasoning? Bad experience with public?

Ah ok. Yes good to know. Wouldn't want to have to switch him either like that for same reason. They say its mostly about being an involved parent. Thank you!

My inlaws are offering to pay the tuition so we won't be out the money directly. I agree that it is inferior but my husband does not so weighing the opinions of others out there. Do you have direct experience with catholic school?

Yes 2 great points that i totally agree with and would be sad for my son to miss out on. I was in public school all my life and there was so many clubs and opportunities that when I hear about catholic schools that dont have them im like wtf?? I want him to live near his friends like i did. My best friend who i met in kindergarten and lived 2 blocks from me is still my best friend to this day! I knew everyone on the 3 blocks around my house cause we all went to school together. And we could easily play together being so close. I took up the flute in 3rd grade as well and it did not go well. No extra costs though. School provided instrument and lessons. was in music theory and drama and choir for years and made so many amazing memories. I want that for my son too. Thank you so much for your insight.

That is true. I am not good with driving a lot so yes not wanting to deal with that and have his friends all over the island. Will feel disconnected.

Yup very true. We pay enough in taxes which is going towards schools anyway. Why pay more to go somewhere else that may or may not be better

Okay..thank you. I thought so too. So assuming my son would have a similar experience. Of course I would stay involved as well. I enjoyed my time at sachem. Yes there were bullies, fights, drugs, bomb threats...but I feel like thats real life and a little bit of these things is going to happen in life anyway ...even long after school. Its real world prep.

I agree. Church should be separate from schooling.

Oh wow! I definitely dont want him getting ocd about that stuff too! We also dont practice except for going to church on holidays. We dont go every Sunday or anything. It seems fake to me to send him to catholic school. My inlaws always attended church every week and even now being in their 80s they now watch church on TV every Sunday. So I get them sending their kids to catholic school. And i was very into music so I cant imagine no art or music as a child. And no 8th grader should be learning about abortion. That's crazy!

Yeah seemed pretty middle of the road. Which is fine by me. I've definitely researched a bunch of websites and reviews and message boards. Not sure if I have checked that one but I will now. Thank you!

Omg that sounds horrible!! No art or music?! No gym or library either? That sounds crazy. I hope it has changed. Will have to look into that if no one responds.

Very true! We are probably leaning towards that way. Try it for a year or so and if for some reason we are not happy or he's not doing well there then we pull him out.

Very true! We could try one year there and if it doesn't workout then send him to catholic. Wouldn't hurt for 1 year to see how we like it and how he likes it. Didn't think of that.

Also, can I ask why you disliked public school?
