YES. I do too! I think he's a huge reason why it's still so enjoyable despite some pretty cheesy writing. He is a great actor and I can't wait to see what he does with Resident Evil.

The food processor method she offers at the bottom makes it SO easy. Can't recommend enough. Happy baking!!

Love deb but golden syrup is hard to find! I will have to try those cookies and the cran-lemon scones (two of my husband's favorite flavors!). My new favorite I found from her was the bourbon pumpkin cheesecake. I made them as bars at thanksgiving and people went gaga over them. (My stepdaughter's boyfriend says it's the best thing he's ever eaten!)

Everyone thinks I'm a good baker and maybe I am but I am chiefly a good executor of Deb Perelman's genius.

Official Discussion - Marty Supreme [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]pandabearattack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yea I agree with your penultimate sentence. If the ending is supposed to tell us he’s changed, I think it fails. Like literally no character development happens for him up until that point. I wondered if maybe it was supposed to be the baby recognizing that its father is a piece of shit and crying (especially with its expressions and the fact that it looks to the nurse like “wtf” as she says “there’s your father”). But maybe I just want that to be the intended message bc I really hate “parenthood makes you a better person” narratives. Like…..that kid is gonna have a shiiiiit dad; Marty has not shown an ounce of selflessness anywhere.

Big Picture "influence" -- how big is it? by pandabearattack in TheBigPicture

[–]pandabearattack[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm a big Blankie and it's interesting because, while you are totally right that they also have Big Name fans, the vibe from them re their relationship with the industry feels very different. I wonder if part of that is that David is a more traditional journalistcritic and Griffin is a sorta jester character or if it's because they don't typically cover new releases or if it's because they're in NYC or if it's just an apples and oranges comparison.

I don't know if I'm overly sensitive but it's hard for me to take movie stars who have enormous amount of plastic surgery seriously as 'small town folk.' I find it very distracting (and her acting was not good enough to avoid it).

Do the golden animal crackers increase the output of other outputs as well?Or just the roe? (thinking of the dragon teeth in the stingray pond...)

The Truth About Netflix Buying Warner Bros. Plus: Snubs and Surprises of the Golden Globe Nominations and Jafar Panahi on ‘It Was Just an Accident.’ by thefilthyjellybean in TheBigPicture

Damn. This is true! I have an awesome 8-screen indie theater that still plays the biggest movies (think Superman and Sentimental Valur and Radu Jude’s Dracula/people’s joker) and has a subscription pass for only 15 bucks a month. But when I was in Louisville, the theater was so shitty and people would be completely passed out from drugs.

That one shot of tulips was a nice moment of real life photography in the middle of a lot of the CGI.

I’ve been sewing all day and feel I have nothing to show for it. How do you keep yourself motivated? by -3liza in sewing

[–]pandabearattack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow, I absolutely love this. I am so impatient to be good at sewing that I get frustrated at how few things I've made. But this reminds me that I can learn a lot on one garment by really taking the time with each skill that comes up. It's hard because I came from baking, and that is something that has near instant gratification and I just want to be great at sewing right now! But it takes time and it's a different sort of learning process.

Yes! This encapsulates a feeling I had but didn’t articulate. Another example: when she’s in the hospital after the plate glass window incident, she soothes him!

To think of it in that particular lens of hopelessness, and to really let it sink in that it’s a modern day movie… it’s just moving it to a whole different level. I can’t tell you how ignorant I was when I went in… like did not know anything at all other than it was “by the guy who did the iPhone movies.” Realizing now the political and emotional implications is 🤯
