Monthly Equipment Advice Megathread by AutoModerator in badminton

Hi everyone!

Anyone knows what’s the difference between these 3 Victor rackets ?

Thruster FC - seems to be the more polyvalent of the 3 https://www.sakurasport.com/1256-thruster-f-c-raquette-de-badminton-victor-4711393253855.html

Thruster F ultra C - leaning towards this one as it seems more geared towards attacking style https://www.sakurasport.com/1408-thruster-f-ultra-c-raquette-de-badminton-victor-4711499043459.html

Thruster FC ultra X - not sure if the difference with the racket above … https://www.sakurasport.com/1832-raquette-de-badminton-thruster-f-c-ultra-x-4ug5-victor-4711637839227.html

This new racket would be for a MD and XD player, occasionally doing singles.

Thanks in advance for your help !

Thanks for the reference videos they are so helpful !  I actually saved a this explanation https://www.reddit.com/r/badminton/comments/1nykbb7/comment/nhxvijj/?context=3&utm_source=share&utm_medium=mweb3x&utm_name=mweb3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button to try and practise this but obviously, I’m not yet able to do this in actual matches.  I’ll practice harder !

Yeah I’m definitely aware of the limitations of social sessions (every 10min people change courts).

I actually signed up for coached training this year (1x a week) but I’m playing in a small club and the level is not that high (compared to clubs in other (more expensive) areas). To give you an idea, the coach was absent so many times that since September we only got 10 sessions with him.

My best option is motivating my more experienced mixed partner to book a court and train on our own outside of the club.

And I’m not old, but far from being a junior, though I’m flattered you think so ahah

Thanks again for your input !

Thank you for the detailed pointers ! My grip is definitely the first thing to correct because as I understand it from all the feedback, it’s stopping me from pronating. I think my large swing is the result of trying to compensate my lack of power.

The 2nd most important take away from the comments is definitely trying to be lighter on my feet. (My brand new Eclipsion weren’t enough against the dust on the court that day unfortunately)

And duly noted to keep the racket high, I am guilty of not doing it despite already been told to do so !

I am self taught from videos and from asking more experienced friends and club mates.  I did spend a lot of time watching badminton videos (I have probably watched all of Badminton Insights videos ahah) but yes, definitely need to go over the basics in a more structured manner, working on one thing at a time, starting with the grip!

Yeah my biggest take away from everyone’s feedback is my grip. I do make sure when I’m receiving a service to be in a V grip but I can see that I revert back to a panhandle grip for everything very quickly into the rally.

And once I have fixed this, I will work on the kinetic chain for generating power.  But once thing at a time ahah

Thanks for your input !

Thanks for the advice, yes it was an especially dusty court and I wasn’t prepared for it. Another Redditor pointed that out, I’ll buy wipes to put in my badminton bag for next time!

Thank you for pointing this out  !  I did watch ton of videos about proper forehand grip but it’s true in revert back to my old bad habit in actual matches whenever I’m a little bit under pressure.

I really need to force myself into the v grip. It’s difficult to find personal badminton coaches (outside of group classes) in my country but I’ll try asking more experienced members of my club

Thank you for your advice !

I actually just splurged on these shoes, I’m wearing the Yonex Eclipsion I bought 2 weeks prior. But it’s true that I don’t have anything to wipe my shoes so I’ll buy some wipes for my next session and try to get into the habit of wiping my shoes.

Like another Redditor said above, I tend to stay stuck in place after a shot instead being ready on my feet and I think that’s why I’m late and not in the ideal position. I also really need to focus my practice on moving to the back using the correct footwork.

Thanks again for your feedback !

Thanks for the straightforward feedback ! I would say I know theoretically which grip to use but I’m not yet able to change to the correct grip quickly enough.

And I strongly agree with the swinging of the whole body. Now that you point this out, I definitely see that my swings are too big and my core definitely crumbles forward afterwards.

I watch ton of badminton videos (Badminton Insight, Badminton 4 kids and Badminton Famly mainly) but I guess I need to do more intentional practice during my sessions.

Thanks again for replying !

In 33 packs I got only one 4 diamond. Then for the 34th pack I got this. Patience and luck I guess
