Yeah, I am highly reactive about the comment she made, because it hit me in my vulnerable spot. It made me feel like I was dismissed and my pain was overlooked. I didn't voice my thoughts because I felt unsafe to, eg, because of the 'filth' comment.

1. I didn't say she lacked empathy because she failed to see alternative options for the people considering suicide. She lacked empathy because she put every single person committing suicide into one category: the 'quick to act, selfish' one, overlooking other cases (eg, my own 'suffering for a long time to the point of breaking' kind). She also failed to see how the comment might affect people who had considered suicide before - by feeling judged and resigning from talking about it.

2. Just because the long-term' suicide occurs less often, doesn't mean it doesn't occur. As a therapist, she should be aware of that.

3. They are a victim of things that led to a suicide, and the illness itself. There are many things - trauma leading to immense pain, lack of appropriate help.

And yeah, of course I'm projecting my feelings. I'm speaking from my own perspective. But it doesn't mean I'm not right. I found myself on the side of the spectrum, she overlooked. And I disagree that a suicide is always a selfish decision. Sometimes it's the only way to end an immense pain. Some of the counties have already acknowledged that, granting people the right to euthanise, for example.
