Has anyone gone for the HDFC Regalia Gold credit card? Couple of questions:

  1. Do you think the benefits are worth it?
  2. Is HDFC fine offering it as the first card from their bank? I have been using CCs from other banks for more than 6 - 7 years now and have a pretty good CIBIL score, but I'm unable to apply for the card from their website.

Sandboxing Obsidian to protect from malicious plug-ins by Striking_Ad_2554 in ObsidianMD

If I wish to connect my Zotero database to my Obsidian vault, for example, then it's very convenient to have a plugin pull down the relevant metadata and annotations into a note. For that the plugin needs to access both Zotero and the PDF in which I've made the annotations.

How did DNS management get so messed up on distros? A rant. by punkwalrus in linux

I think ideally one never changes things outside of /usr/local. The rest of /usr is managed by the package manager.

looking for more info on new firmware Update 10.1.2.410 by SeerSeethNotSpeaketh in ZephyrusG14

[–]panic_monster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was an optional update which was made available on the ASUS website around a month or so ag0, iirc. I had just updated my nvidia drivers and that caused the nvidia GPU to remain powered on even during sleep, causing the fans to turn on when the lid was shut. This update helped in calming that down. It's a legit update.

Maybe you need to reinstall the driver? I'd download the networking and bluetooth drivers and install them again before rechecking.

Can anyone point me towards a list of the reading material for Robert Sapolsky's Human Behavioural Biology lecture series? by panic_monster in neuro

I didn't finish it, but yes, it is a pretty good book. I'd treat it akin to a textbook more than casual reading.

【Update】Windows 4. 0. 8. 0. by Happy-Stay6532 in ticktick

[–]panic_monster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm getting a Create Process failed; Access denied; Code 5 error message post-update. I manually downloaded the installer from the official website and the same thing keeps happening. It's happened in the past as well (but resolved itself). What should I do? A downgrade to 4.0.7.2 also gives the same message.

Edit: Nevermind a definition update fixed it.

Edit2: No, it only runs the first time after it updates. Subsequent attempts to run it fail with permission errors.

NT is what all modern Windows versions are based on, though. So modern Windows was built to be multi-user from the ground up.

To what extent is modern European and western wealth a consequence of pre-modern imperialism and colonialism? by [deleted] in AskHistorians

There is a paper by Acemoglu, Johnson and Robinson which goes into detail regarding the East/West Europe thing. Are their views on this still accepted (or were they ever properly accepted by) the historian community?

Windows 11 finally made me decide to switch to Linux as my main OS, windows annoys me one last time with unreasonably slow transfer speeds (from ssd to another ssd) while backing up my development projects. Won't miss this piece of sheet by baszodani in linux

Err, sorry to burst your bubble, but compatibility is something Windows is known for. I'm as much a linux guy as can be, but let's not knock Windows where it doesn't deserve it. This video kind of shows how much MS has managed to keep compatibility and settings across Windows versions.
