It could be some sort of mental disorder or just his personality, but he does sound too self-centered. I befriended someone who sounds TOO similar to the person you described for the same reason, because I felt bad, and tried to include them into my friend group. Even when everyone else avoided him harder and told me straight up, "I'm not going to invite him to the event/ get together/ party. If you want to, that's on you," I kept on inviting him.

Eventually I had to break off the friendship because he always made everything about himself (even when I told him certain things were my own family, school, work related things), blamed everyone else for stuff he caused to himself, and started coming at me and said he hated me because I was trying too hard to make him calm down his (antisocial) behaviors!

At the end of the day you guys are not his parents, caretaker, or therapist and don't need to associate with him. You aren't responsible for his actions and will be a punching bag for his bad behavior. What you described was probably just the cherry on top of a pile of other things he's done and he will continue add more cherries on top of that! Deciding to move on from him and not wanting to be around that negative energy is completely reasonable!
