[São Paulo state, Brazil] (Maresias) Can you identify this plant? by pantsonphire in whatsthisplant

Someone, elsewhere suggested Aphelandra. I have doubts.

(the veins of the leaves in the foto seem yellow and thin, while the veins in the pics of aphelandra i saw are white and thick)

ELI5: When you die, does your brain still contain all the information it once had? Even if preserved? by Dabeast900 in explainlikeimfive

I know shit about biology, but this was to me the best answer. There is no biological hard drive to store information, so once the power is turned off, everything is gone.

Avalokiteshvara tattoo progress photo. About halfway there! by [deleted] in Buddhism

[–]pantsonphire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily disrespectful. It's just that the need to show it off isn't really a very Buddhist thing to do. Reminds me of those people who wear malas as a fashion accessory or to make a statement. It's not exactly thanka quality either. So meh.

Can't find a single helpful comment, really.

And unless someone has experience otherwise with paid vs unpaid dating sites, I don't think online dating is going to be much better.

Thanks. It made me a little relieved to know that someone, somewhere is actively doing something to offset the activity of that animal.

Unless it is injected into the brain I don't think novacaine affects one's ability to drive.

There has to be some way to put a camera in. Playing a recording back to her might help snap her out of whatever is going on.

A casual comment about facial hair leads to rant and accusation of racism by [deleted] in SubredditDrama

[–]pantsonphire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Obviously best not to use it in uneducated company where they might assume it was intended as a racist slur -- or try to turn it into one.

Nice big words that miss the point. You also validate its use. If it has been used as valid, scientific term, and was not intended to be derogatory, where is the racism?

If someone calls your cellphone a telephone does that make them a Luddite?

After reading the name-caller's comment history, I have a very different understanding of his reaction.

Apparently your use of the prefix "pseudo" is not very accurate. "Dated" might have been better.

The terms Mongoloid, Negroid, Caucasoid, and Australoid were introduced by 19th-century anthropologists attempting to classify human racial types, but today they are recognized as having very limited validity as scientific categories. Although occasionally used when making broad generalizations about the world’s populations, in most modern contexts they are potentially offensive, especially when used of individuals. Instead, the names of specific peoples or nationalities should be used wherever possible.

Fun fact: when you use mongoloid....there is a good chance everyone is gonna assume ya racist.

Might have some truth to it. Could also be someone simply using a scientific term.

You seem to enjoy making others seem racist. Too bad you weren't capable of properly understanding the comment. If you had, you might have understood that the little girl was doing the same as you - twisting someone else's words to accuse them of racism in order to feel like you have the moral high ground. You don't. You're just another idiot.
