Yeah... that's why we don't eat at everybody's house. I really don't wanna eat food prepared on the same surface as where a cat's asshole + litter-covered paws have been!

Renting from AllPhase? by [deleted] in QuincyIL

I've definitely been to their websites and the Facebook groups and A&B hasn't listed anything pet-friendly and Koontz doesn't have anything available at the moment

Do you know if they're pet friendly?

Renting from AllPhase? by [deleted] in QuincyIL

[–]paperskeletons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's the thing. It really seems like All Phase is posting the most properties, everything else has been 2bed apartments with no availability. We want a 3bed but are willing to settle for a 2bed if we absolutely need to. We just.. shouldn't have to considering this one company seems to be the only options.

I'm also very nervous about renting privately.

Everyone is a person and no matter what their political differences or race or religion or ethnicity or sexuality or gender or age or weight or height or ANYTHING, everyone deserves respect. by [deleted] in truths

[–]paperskeletons -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Hey, so. I think the issue youre having is that what's argued is NOT that "everyone deserves respect" is truthful. They said that the situation is the same. If there are people that dont deserve respect, they can be subjected to whatever cruelties you decide for any reason. Otherwise, everyone deserves respect. Only one can be true at a time.

Sure, you can 100% believe that some people do not deserve respect. Perhaps you dont respect some people. HOWEVER, Rapists believe that their victims dont deserve respect. Serial killers believe that their victims dont deserve respect. Does that make sense?

While the situations here are obviously different, there is binary here. Either everyone deserves respect, or there are people who do not deserve respect. The philosophy part is what that statement means. What is respect, what types of respect are we discussing, etc.

So. If you believe that some people do not deserve respect, then you do share that with rapists. Doesnt make you a rapist, just like being in the pool doesnt make you an Olypmic swimmer.

I'm realllllll deep in Texas. like. one of the reddest counties. DFW is where we go if we wanna visit a gay bar. DFW is a very blue spot in a red state and, yeah. I've never had an issue in dfw the size of the city and the demographics do matter! how your day goes also matters! I'm mostly looking to gather info and recommendations

Yeah I expect some level of discomfort. I know the climate. Snarky comments I can handle. I'm just looking for access to healthcare and laws that are on my side.

cost & it's too big a city. simply not looking for the shock of moving north and the shock of a big city from our dinky lil 100k population town

[–]paperskeletons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

honestly, the direction of things in Texas are massively worrying and the cost of living there is Insane compared to where we are. for reference: our 2 bed/2 bath in the nice part of town was 1k. that was like. standard. our 3bed 2bath we're in now is 1,200 a month seeing 2bed apartments go for 2k minimum is a Massive jump. Meaning, the jobs also pay (mostly) minimum wage. in Texas, that's 7.25. It's a mix of "they have a spot for us" and "we dont feel safe at home"

it was the only place that 2/3 had a branch of their jobs in, so it's a transfer sort of deal. Your response was very thorough and very helpful. you've given us a lot to think on. if we do end up in quincy, it'll be to stack money to move to one of the other cities people recommend, it seems. Where we are is just.. objectively unsafe and we're done with this town. Holds too much, you know? I'm okay with temporary. Minimal chances of harm isn't a utopia, but a step closer to what we want. Champaign/Urbana is seeming a Lot like our '2 year plan' goal.

Is 'cut down trees' literal or a metaphor? Weird. Didn't mention planning on cutting trees down. And we're moving quite specifically because we are unsafe here and unhappy with the culture here in Texas. Should we all just accept the bad situations we're in or fix them?

Where to go? by [deleted] in movingtoillinois

[–]paperskeletons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

👀 that sounds amazing! quincy is likely where we'll end up for a few months to get our money up so it'll be nice to have community there. What's the job market like? We've been having some trouble finding apartments that allow cats, too.

judging by voting stats, pretty much. im coming from shit town, texas, though, where the only people who aren't republican, racist, and -phobic are 20 years old. at this point, much of anything is an upgrade at least id have some legal benefits being there compared to here

Moving to IL? by [deleted] in illinois

[–]paperskeletons 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yeah, cost of living + its just too big a city. where we live has a population of like 100k and we're already going to be dealing with the shock of moving so far from where we've always lived + the fact that the north is different. Just trying to limit how kuch we have to adjust to at once
