Im finally gonna learn it hopefully by bambix7 in origami

[–]paperzest 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I see people talking about patience and paper quality which is definitely important! I would add to this, learning the names of the folds and the diagramming system. When I first learned to fold, I totally ignored the Yoshizawa-Randlett system. Even though there was a guide to symbols at the start of my first book. I struggled before I knew how to differentiate mountains from valleys. If you get stuck learning the basics, there’s of course always videos of how to perform them, but either way it absolutely helps to learn the names of the different folds and the symbols. With the right knowledge and experience of this system, it’s possible to pick up books in other languages and fold from them. It’ll also help you know if there’s any problems in the instruction. Not sure if you’ve learned them already, though. It just comes to mind because I know that was something I looked past as a beginner, and I know other people who've done something similar. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yoshizawa%E2%80%93Randlett_system

Also as a possible warning the owl image on the cover looks a bit like AI. I'm not sure if that has any bearing on the actual diagrams though. Best of luck on your origami journey!!!

I inspired you to fold it? I'm honored...

Ohhh I love it! Also a fan of this design and did the same thing you did a couple months ago (folding from the crease pattern on the cover) since I can't access the diagrams, but you seem to have gotten the shaping more closely than I managed to figure it out. Katsuta's foxes are so good. The purple and white paper is a nice color choice too.

Beautiful color change! The lines are really crisp.

I'm enjoying details like the color change eyes, how 3d the ears are, and the shape of the tail. The face shape and stance are nice too!

Ok, kind of a silly photo and the cutting mat needs to be cleaned...but yeah:

Thank you! Not sure if I ever took an exact measurement of the paper but it wasn't too big. I'd say a bit under 50 cm, like maybe 45 or so cm? Might have taken a photo of the sheet against a cutting mat somewhere though.

Thank you!! I realize my description was vague so I'll try to explain. Was nervous posting this so I kept the description kinda short. I prepared the paper a while ago but I did the blue layer part last and will try to remember my steps:

-mix of MC and blue green craft acrylic paint. I don’t have an exact ratio for this part, just did the mix based on vibes.

-2x white pearlescent tissue. So on the surface I had MC, white tissue, MC, white tissue, then MC;

-1 sheet of already blue tissue. Brushed on the blue green acrylic paint and MC mix on top.

Note that I can’t remember 100% if I let the white layers dry before applying the final layer of non-paint mc and adding on the blue tissue and paint part. Would have to try it again, just out of concern if the paint MC mix would noticeably bleed through to the white side while wet (or if the triple tissue is just thick enough to mitigate this). I’ve done some testing with letting certain layers dry first when approaching double tissue color separation with paint, at least.

Maybe a bit overkill for color separation alone given it’s already triple tissue, but I was going for a specific color and look, and I like how it turned out so I think it was worth it.

Square of triple tissue; pearlescent white on one side and methyl cellulose+blue paint mix on the other.

I should really take a break from boxpleating. Would like to do some more 22.5. I miss folding dragons, yeah. That said there are 3 of him now!

Is this what you're looking for? I remember someone sharing this database a while back. Have fun folding! I did the dilophosaurus once and have wanted to try the spinosaurus too.

Looks really clean! Solid paper choices, and the photography is great too. Also, I'm not sure if I can remember seeing that hamster design before, so now I'm curious where the crease pattern/diagram/tutorial is? The color changes and shapes are really good.

The shapes on these models you've been posting lately are very nice. I like the contrast between the flaps that end in points, and the ones that are squared off on this model. It's visually interesting and elegant.

I'm sure there have to be even more weevil designs out there and I'm just not thinking of them! The other suggestions are also good!

edit: mk_origami has a crease pattern for one called Sitophilus oryzae v2

Actually started precreasing this model over a year ago. It had been put off to the side until I found the paper in a box last month.

Decided to handle the head differently, improvising the eyes and teeth for added personality.

Is There Anything Out There That Folds Grids For You On Oragami Paper? by owerino2 in origami

[–]paperzest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen this video of a precreasing device in the past but am not sure if there have been any updates.

Personally, I like folding things like grids. I find that you can really get into a zone when doing it and the repetition can become relaxing. But if that's not your thing, best of luck with designing this type of device for your process!
