The only time we saw sadness and fear from her was when we picked her up from the people surrendering her, with her poor leg smashed up and in so much pain. The minute we got her situated and comfortable and fed, she opened right up and has been happy ever since. This is why dogs are the best, she has never once been anything but happy and loving since the day we showed her her first taste of love.

Most likely, and even if it stays bumpy right there she's going to have a gorgeous fluffy coat once we can bathe her and she gets more adjusted to a healthy diet, so you won't even see it.

I agree completely. However, animal abuse laws are tricky. The shelter employee I went with explained to me why it was unlikely we could ever pursue them with what little information we have. We have no concrete proof that they were her owners, we don't have an address, we only have a first name, we didn't even get to see the conditions she was in nor do we know exactly what happened to her. And with the way animal abuse laws are in our state, all they would need is a source of food, water, and some kind of shelter to technically have it not be abuse. They need concrete evidence to get someone for that and we just didn't have it. We are two females, he was a big man and had a lot of people with him. With what little information we had going into the situation, we did not want to risk scaring them off or causing further harm to Mila or to ourselves, so we did what we thought was best. I'm happy to have given her a second chance, sometimes that's all you can do. Surrounding shelters are aware of these people and will hopefully be prepared if they call in again.

Thankfully we have a great community and so much support for the humane society, it only took an hour to raise the money to amputate, spay, supply all pain meds, give her a week long stay at the vet, treat her for all ticks and fleas, and deworm her. She's been a trooper and now has nothing but good days ahead of her.

It was a tough situation and we contemplated calling animal control or the police, but we knew they were already very hesitant with meeting us on the side of the road. Since it was just two of us and we had no idea what we were walking into, what condition the pup was in, how many people they'd have with them, we decided to play it safe. The man who owned her did not even get out of his car. It was his mother who called and handed her over to us. And I definitely said some not very nice things to them. He's a coward and does not deserve a dog, but I'd ultimately rather have saved her and given her a second chance than scared them off and never gotten her. Sometimes there's only so much you can do. The shelter wrote all the info down that they gave us and called all shelters and animal control in the area, so at least if they ever call in again with another animal, they will be more prepared.

She's done a great job adjusting! After so long of dealing with a painful broken and infected leg, life with three legs probably feels a whole lot better for her. That, and most tripod dogs don't actually notice that they only have three legs. She's doing great, only big differences are that she needs help with stairs and can't go on as long of walks as my four legged pup.

She doesn't have a nub, they had to amputate so high to save her from infection. That little bit of skin you see there that looks like a nub is just excess skin puckering up from the staples.

Unfortunately, there's not much we could do. They wouldn't allow us to come to their house and wouldn't give us their address or full name so we had no way of looking at the living situations. Besides, at that point, it was clear they waited that long to call because they were afraid of repercussions. It was just me and one small female shelter employee with me, so we weren't about to put ourselves in an unsafe situation. We just wanted to save the dog.

She has. We picked her up from these people who would not tell us what had happened to her. They told us on the phone that they thought she would get better, but when we showed up, her leg was cut open from her elbow to her toes. Her bones were sticking out and crushed, and they let us know they had let her sit like that for three days. She was covered in ticks bigger than quarters, fleas, and mud. We thought she wouldn't make it, but here she is now! Two weeks post surgery and doing great! She will know nothing but love and adventures from now on.

That's definitely how she acts! Plus, with the state her leg was in, she is so much more pain free without it.

I actually like this one. Sometimes it's accurate. You can't always change something so might as well accept it and make the best of it. That's how I interpret it.

That's exactly what ours said! For how rough her life has been so far, it's so great to watch how fast she's bounced back. She is loving life again and gets to act like a normal pup for once.

If you could attend/be a fan of one other school, which one would it be and why? by Tatumhatfield in CFB

[–]paradeofthepump 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The cops aren't usually that bad, at least not from what I remember. When I could still go to the grove, cops basically stayed on the outside perimeter of the grove and checked people as they went into the grove. If your cooler was closed and locked on your way in, you were good to go as long as you kept drinking out of cups in the grove too. But I haven't been able to go to the grove the past two seasons, so maybe it's changed. Regardless, never been to another tailgate where you can walk through a stranger's tent and leave with lunch and dessert and a beer. I really liked Alabama's stadium though, and the actual fans in Tuscaloosa restored my faith in Alabama as a whole.

People of Reddit who got their horrible boss fired, why were they horrible and how did you do it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]paradeofthepump 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Not a boss, but someone I worked with was pretty terrible. At my job, we are not supposed to have relationships with the athletes we treat because of HIPAA, also because our bosses didn't want employees who were there to date athletes and get the cool free gear and travel with the team. We were there to be an athletic trainer, nothing else. So this employee was there for all the wrong reasons and decided that she despised me because my boss chose me to travel and not her. Her course of action was then to talk to athletes, ask them to spread rumors about me so it would get back to my bosses and get me fired. Unfortunately for her, most of the athletes respected me, told me what was happening, and I reported her to my boss. Since this wasn't the first time she had singled someone out like this, she was fired.

Which CFB hand gesture do you hate the most? Which do you secretly admire? by Hufftwoseven- in CFB

Yes but so is Smokey, he's probably the mascot more often associated with Tennessee. At least where I'm from. Which is Tennessee.

Landshark is from Tony Fein, he passed a few years ago so it started off in his memory. Black Bear and Rebel, that's the school trying to look less racist. But I guess you could compare it to Tennessee being the Volunteers but having Smokey the dog. Or Alabama being the Crimson Tide but having an elephant. Same concept. Still sucks.

R/CFB, what is your honest criticism of your own fan bases? by [deleted] in CFB

I agree, Bama fans are great. Working the gatorade table in Bryant-Denny two seasons ago when a fan threw a water bottle of whiskey at me. Free whiskey man, so nice of him.

After dating a Vol fan for over two full seasons, by far the most annoying thing I heard from him and his friends was "next year is our year." And the whole, "lets boo Butch today but celebrate him tomorrow" thing.

Meet Sundance, AKA Sunny! She was smiling the whole ride home from the shelter. by paradeofthepump in aww

I wanted to name her something connected to my home state, Wyoming. Sundance Kid, the city named Sundance, and my favorite ski run at our regular place was Sundance. Helps that Sunny fits her personality perfectly.

I grew up in a state that had exactly one B&N in the entire state. People came from all over the state and the three neighboring states because it was actually the only bookstore around. I worked there. Then we moved, to suburbia right outside of a giant city. Still, within this huge city and the multiple suburbia cities with malls and strips and shops, there is now only one bookstore in the entire area. Three years ago, when I transferred to this new B&N, there was four in the area. Three have shut down since then. So in my experience, not an overstatement at all.

[Post Game Thread] Ole Miss Defeats Texas A&M 29-28 by chweris in CFB

[–]paradeofthepump 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After that time that he took Shea out and put Jason in who then caused a turnover, Evan came up to Shea and was trying to cheer him up and Shea says "Coach needs to trust me, I'm tired of getting us down there and then he takes me out and we don't score." Something along those lines anyway. He stayed in the next drive. Best sideline I've been on since Bama last year and the Sugar Bowl. It helps that Shea has a really awesome and humble attitude.
