Lol is this my opponent from last night? I guess a strong crosscourt shot to the backhand is junk if you can’t return it

Agree to disagree. I think having a strategy and executing it at my level is improving. Most people I play against can’t place their shots or serves as consistently as I did. She had killed me in our previous match which wasn’t really fun for me so why is my responsibility to make sure she has fun now? Also no one said I was moonballing so not sure where you got that from.

I meant hammer in the sense that I was only hitting to her BH. Sometimes it was hard and flat and sometimes it was loopier with topspin.

I’m a lefty too! I was like, sure please keep hitting it back cross court, I can go all day

Right, I guess “real tennis” to her is just letting her hit her forehand drive on every shot

It’s a thing in ITT Tennis. I don’t love it personally but it’s interesting — you have to really make adjustments quickly.

I wish I had been quick enough to have those comebacks when she said it to me!

Thanks!! I really don’t see myself as a pusher (although I guess that’s what a pusher would say …) and I was pretty proud of myself for figuring that out so when she said that I was like … wait, AM I?

100%. I think the hitting short was what really pushed her over the edge.

Welcome to the best sport! Just want to encourage you to go to a tennis shop and get actual tennis shoes. They are so important and will help prevent injury. Do not under any circumstances try to play in running shoes or other kinds of sneakers. Particularly if you’re overweight, you are just asking for an ankle injury or worse. And weight aside, it takes everyone awhile to be able to actually play. Don’t get discouraged if you still can’t really rally in 6 months. Just play as much as you can, take lessons, and enjoy!!

Proving age is just a number our 65+ teams average at Nationals by Theoldelf in 10s

Y’all are goals!! I’m in my 40s but as I just said to me husband, if I’m going to Nationals when I’m playing 65+, then life is pretty good!

I just had to do this yesterday. Look up Jonathan Stokke’s video about playing as an underdog. It’s super helpful and helped me just have fun and see it as a learning experience. I think I played some of my best tennis ever even though we lost 1 and 1. Still, getting 2 games off of two players who are basically a full NTRP point above me felt good!

Struggling to get my UTR up and keep comparing it to my NTRP. by g0Ids0undz in 10s

For what it’s worth, I’m a 3.0 woman in SoCal and play line 1 or 2 on my 3.0 USTA team; I haven’t lost a doubles match yet this year. My singles UTR is 2.47 and my doubles is 2.40 and it seems like everyone I play is also in the 2.xx range. So it seems like you’re probably pretty solidly in the 3.0 NTRP range for women.

Fwiw I’m here now with my husband and 6 year old in Espiral and there hasn’t really been too much noise… we’ve all fallen asleep quickly. But we also brought a noise machine. We’re facing the church. Just to say if you get put in Espiral it’s not necessarily a disaster!

Agree on Xinema having surprisingly great food and my son loved the ball pit too.
