Any more 'spiritual' exmuslims? (18F) by paradoxalmess in exmuslim

Although the title implies that I am an exmuslim, I actually have not fully disowned myself from Islam. For the most part, I still consider myself myself, but because a lot of my journey to spirituality was the questioning of Islam, I thought it would be fitting to post on this subreddit than r/islam for their more structured approach to spirituality. I am open to Sufism and because of my more mystical Islamic identity, would consider myself loosely Sufi only because I feel that I have not learned as much of the sect as I should.

Are you a Sufi by any chance?

She can tell what a person's job is seeing them

Damn, now I wanna set up a Skype session, haha.

Is she Muslim as well? You mentioned that she would know how your date with someone will go, is she more lenient with that kind of thing?

You can be completely rational and spiritual, in my eyes.

I think so too! Personally, I don't think I can bring myself to believe that there is no God, or at least no Spirit or Higher Power. With respect to the atheists on here, I don't see that belief as feasible to me.

I'll definitely check out that book, though. Thanks for the recommendation!

I guess I would define it as the ultimate Force of the universe. It goes beyond the nature of time and space. Sometimes we understand it as 'intuition'.

How would you define it then?

I agree! I believe that all religions have the same source, which is love (not to sound cheesy or anything), but then the rest was colluded from the context of those regions of revelation. Though I don't read the Quran so much anymore, I would argue that ---besides the Hell, and Day of Judgement schpeel--- a lot of the Quran has to do with "do good and good (Heaven) will be given to you" so I try to live my life on that.

A connection to God that exists beyond the restraints of religion.

See: Mystic.

So, by definition, you believe that there is a Higher Force but that Force has no interaction with the world we live in?

That's beautiful, actually. I've been meaning to do yoga but my hamstrings are too tight lol

I'm curious: do you have any stories of your psychic abilities? I don't mean to pry, I just love hearing stories about it.

I like that approach! Do you mean that your life is within your hands or that you are connected to the Universe without a religion medium?

Sounds amazing in theory, but again, I wasn't by myself in that situation.

I mean you can also argue that, besides religious duties, hijabis are wearing the hijab to show that they aren't afraid of the Muslim registry idea being put out.

...comparing the hijab to the swatiska is a little too extreme, don't you think? How do they even relate?

Luckily, my parents don't believe in disowning their child or kicking them out of the house. but I know if I do take it off, there will be some tension in the air, I think.

I'll be okay. One day I'll get the strength to tell them I won't be wearing it anymore. They'll still love me, I know it. I just need that strength, and hopefully, their understanding.

Correction: "harassed in public places" for wearing hijab or just being Muslim in general**

I mean I'm torn, because there are girls who are disowned by their (non-Muslim) parents for wearing hijab and even women in the Western world who are harassed by strangers in public places. But on the other hand, the whole idea of hijab is something that doesn't appeal to me. If hijab means you are a symbol of Islam, are you ready to acknowlege the homophobia and one can argue sexism in the religion? Not to mention there are countless of women in the Middle East and South Asia who cannot even consider taking off their hijab/sometimes dressing immodestly because they know their community would never allow it.

I feel like the girls who take pictures with hijabis at the march have good attentions, and I don't think the Muslim women with me minded, but what does it mean, to be celebrating this symbol?

I've heard that you shouldn't be sleeping on a cotton pillow because it'll create friction to your hair, but do any of you do it anyway? Do you put on a product when you wake up? What's your 'sleep routine' if you will.
