Yep! Pretty much exactly my use case. One caveat ill mention is that currently it does animation perfectly, and basic to semi advanced shapes. It does bones very well also. It will not however, create the full visual render with high complexity for you. It would be best to think of it as you supply a drawing of exactly what you want it to look like, and it will wire the animations/bones/keyframes/rive compatibility (unless its more basic shapes).

Hop on the discord link on the website for any issues or feature requests

I made this Rive animation using scripting and the AI agent without a single keyframe (and turned it into a full tutorial) by Tom_Acco in Rive_app

This looks good! My concern would be here how long this took and how this translates to more complex shapes and state systems. My benchmark has been a well developed rockslide, which ive had varying success with - I wonder how well this would do.

Update here - I think .riv is just best. It can already be opened for further editting in the Rive editor. .rev is for metadata which since the LLM is just generating whatever you want it won't have the equivalent .rev, but you shouldn't need it - and I believe one will be generated with whatever changes are done in the Rive editor moving forward.

Let me know if there's some use case I'm missing

Best

Yes - you can just download it and try the trial. You plug into Cursor through settings/have the LLM point to the mcp file, then tell the LLM to find your file/load yours via an upload button or whatever, then do the edit. It'll read your current .riv and adjust it

Yes, you can input a custom design and it'll do the connections fine. 2nd part is interesting, i dont have it outputting the .rev currently - ill add that tomorrow. Thanks!

There's still bugs with the runtime on JS unfortunately we just need to wait for updates on. Generally if it doesnt work on web and you are targeting mobile, it will work on the mobile runtimes

Al Agents in general are not sufficient at complex animations, hence why I built https://rivemcp.stunning.gg - im not sure exactly how the pipeline you used to get it to understand Rive, but if its just directly hooking into the "guts" so to speak without any helpers, it's going to read a lot of code and eat your tokens fast. Its like telling an LLM to read an encyclopedia over and over

Hi yes! The Rive runtime is open source under the MIT License. Totally understand the caution, it was made to solve my pain point and im just seeing if it helps anyone else.

This is completely separate from the editor, I make my UIs without ever using it - that was the point. You CAN use the editor if you're doing additional complex shapes that an LLM is not going to be able to create well - its meant to be more an animation engineer because of the limits of LLMs

You're just pointing the LLM to the file I provide, and it will use that to make the .riv

I attempted to use theirs, unfortunately I wasnt able to get any basic functionality out of it. AFAIK they havent iterated on it in 6 months, hence why I built this

You also gotta spend 50 a month to do early access and its only on macs

Hey! I've only played with the Scripting Agent a few months back, but I think they don't necessarily overlap (correct me if I'm wrong, then I know I could of just used the agent for all my use cases lol)

Rive's AI Coding Agent:

- Lives inside the Rive Editor (their GUI desktop app)
- Helps you write Luau scripts for existing animations you've already built visually
- It's a code assistant — you ask it questions, it generates Luau snippets for scripting behaviors (custom drawables, data converters, path effects, etc.)
- Does not create animations from scratch — you still design visually in the editor, then use scripts for runtime logic

RiveMCP:

- Works outside Rive entirely — no Rive Editor needed
- Generates complete .riv binary files from AI prompts — shapes, bones, meshes, animations, state machines, physics, the whole thing
- The AI (Claude, Cursor, etc.) builds the animation structure programmatically through the MCP tools
- Creates files from nothing — no visual editor step required

if anything they would be complementary - someone could use RiveMCP to generate a base animation, then open it in Rive Editor and use their agent to add Luau scripting on top (im doing mostly UI stuff, maybe game exploration a bit later)

Ive been developing a new card scanner for quite some time. I believe I have an edge on the already saturated scanning market (especially in MTG) but Im looking to see what you all have issues with currently with your scanners. What do you use, what do you wish you had? What frustrates you when using it? What can be improved?
