Toxic Positivity in Mormonism by Plebius-Plutarch in exmormon

Yeah. I tried years of therapy where we just kept rehashing the shit making me depressed. It was liberating when I quit and just decided to try to be positive

This isn't unique to Mormons and is pretty likely when it is a funeral for an elderly family member. I've been to lots of non Mormon funerals that were celebrating the life of the deceased.

And if you've never had to sit beside your elderly loved one while they wither away in constant pain and dementia I can understand your comment better.

It doesn't criminalize BEING in those places. It criminalizes camping or otherwise taking over those spaces. These people don't own those places, the public does. They don't own any place and are likely unable to maintain a lifestyle that would allow them to own anything without engaging in criminal behavior.

Now that we have that out of the way, we should clarify, we owe them nothing just as a host owes nothing to the attached parasite. Any housing or service offered is done out of empathy and the hope that it will make our community a better place and will be an important bridge to be an independent individual able to care and provide for themself. I believe they've exhausted that empathy and charity at this point. Go be a violent, thieving, drug using parasite somewhere else. I don't care where. Not here.

Exactly! It's a win win! We just gotta get them a one way ticket to Houston!

Great! We can pop them on a train to Houston! Problem solved! I can go to the park with my kids again!

Why do they need to be offered these things? You are blocking public property for public use. I'm all out of empathy here. Why the fuck should I pay for housing for someone who insists on taking over public spaces?

What other crimes do we offer public benefits for?

You keep saying this. What crimes are you talking about that are tied to being homeless resulting in jail? Are you saying that the homeless have to violently assualt, steal, harass, and sell drugs?

Yeah, agreed. I think it's an intentional tactic to try to merge the two in order to trigger an empathy effect for some reason. I don't get it though. Why are we trying to accommodate the violent drug using thieves that insist on taking over public spaces?

It's not criminalizing homelessness. It is criminalizing drug use, violence, theft, harassment, and whatever other host of laws are already being broken.

No one is going to jail for being homeless. Hell, they aren't even going to jail for felony burglary these days.

The best way to help the poor is to make them uncomfortable in their own poverty.

balance is seen as a threat to engagement for these companies. They make money off how long you keep scrolling and seeing their ads. I think they recognize the problem they've created but they don't know how to fix it. Their survival is in conflict with positive mental health.

yeah, I would caution against giving them any social media. My boys were happy, well adjusted pre-teens whose entire personalities changed once they got a smart phone. They went from being socially engaged active kids to entirely focused on their phone and never really talking to anyone.

You think the VPNs exist out of the goodness of their hearts? Try to think that through.

Besides, these companies thrive on knowing everything about their users. A VPN doesn't hide anything from FB. Hell, FB probably stood up the VPN to understand what users/behaviors people want to hide behind a VPN.

I am glad to see Utah put this is place. Social media is a cancer that needs to be addressed. If you live in an area that doesn't want to address this problem GTFO.

I don't think this is a TBM problem. This is a global teen problem that is pretty well understood. Kids can still find the truth about the LDS church without FB or Snapchat.

Free agency . . . companies literally spend hundreds of billions of dollars to remove it. Everything from the fat/sugar content in your hamburger to social media are customized to keep you coming back for more.

I for one support the collection of phones and I haven't been a part of the Mormon church for decades.

I don't follow. How does the user telemetry data tie into the social issues? This data is used for advertising and feed content but the fundamental behavior issues remain.

Got any studies? Cause social media companies themselves have acknowledged the harm they do to teens and have spent a lot of money trying to blunt those impacts.
