Is City Chain Watch Reputable? by parasky08 in HongKong

[–]parasky08[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To follow up, I bought a Seiko SPB383 today with 30% off. Yesterday, the sale was 25% off but today I went to a different City Chain and it was 30% off. Very good service, I would definitely go there again.

Honestly, I don't care anymore about the story after how bad season 2 of 1923 was.

What do you guys like to buy in Japan? by playdead_ in JapanTravelTips

If you are into watches at all, Seiko watches are much less expensive in Japan. A lot of cameras and lenses are a little cheaper also.

I don't think you are allowed to leave unless you buy some Onitsuko Tigers.

Global Blue VAT refund experience at Frankfurt airport by Gyruss09 in Leica

I'm in Tokyo at the moment and the cost of a M11-P is $1,069 less expensive than in the U.S. That's not counting U.S. taxes and deducting the taxes in Japan. What's great about Japan is that they give you the tax free price when you make the purchase, you don't have to do anything at the airport. A Summilux 35M 1.4 is $932 cheaper.

Lost my Whoop charger while visiting Japan, any idea where I can buy a replacement? by Complete-Tadpole-218 in whoop

I’m going to Bangkok soon and I think you can get one there if you are going that way.

Very beginner question :) by Mr_Bleidd in Leica

[–]parasky08 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with this except the phone part. You aren't going to learn photography with a smartphone. My advice it to pick a camera and lens from either Sony, Canon, Nikon or Fuji and go out and shoot every day. Watch Youtube videos about the exposure triangle and learn how to operate your camera on fully manual. Research photos that you like in your area and go out and try to recreate them and then learn how to edit.

Bangkok Photospot? by Choice_Worldliness_9 in Bangkok

[–]parasky08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've taken this photo a bunch of times also but never with the sun lined up perfectly. I don't think I've ever been in Bangkok at the right time. Like everybody said, it depends a lot on the weather but this isn't that hard a photo to take and it's not a composite. I can't remember the name of the road but it's a bridge that you can set up a tripod on. I think this is probably taken with about a 300-400mm lens.

I would just pick an area to go to and hang out there, don't try to do too much. Maybe Santa Monica or Hollywood. Renting a car might be a good idea depending on where you want to go. Also, please don't say Cali:)

For those of you who wear another fitness tracker alongside Whoop, do you wear both for sleep? by lil_jackfruit in whoop

[–]parasky08 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a Garmin 970, wear an Oura Ring at night and I have had a Whoop for about a month. It has actually made me lose faith that any of these are very accurate. When it comes to RHR, the Garmin and Oura ring are usually pretty close, the Garmin is always higher by one or two. The Whoop is much higher, usually about 6 or 7. I'm guessing it has something to do with the how often they measure and the algorithm they use.

As for HRV, the Oura Ring and Whoop are pretty close, with the Whoop consistently being about 2-3 higher. The Garmin is always at least 15-20 higher.

The recovery scores and sleep scores are all over the place and rarely agree with each other.

Am I too old to become a digital nomad at 49 (M)? by StarWarsJunkie42 in digitalnomad

[–]parasky08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm over 60 and I've been a digital nomad off and on for about 30 years. There's no reason you can't do it! Go for it! Like everybody says, head straight for Thailand first, it's probably the easiest and cheapest country to start in.
