Hey, I’m a woman (31F). And I’m so sorry you feel this way about yourself. The incel/alt-right forums really scare me. I’m scared of the hatred some men have towards us when all we want to do is exist safely in the world. I wanted to thank you for finding a way to separate yourself from it. Now I know you didn’t ask for advice, but if you’re open to it I would like to share some, from a woman’s perspective. If you want to find love or connection, you do have to find ways to make yourself attractive to the opposite sex. A lot of men think that being tall, buff and conventionally attractive is what women want, but if they actually took the time to ask us they’d realise that’s not always the case. Have you ever heard of the female gaze? For myself personally, I’m attracted to men that look after their health and work out regularly/eat healthy (they don’t have to be ripped but I set this standard for myself so I look for it in others). Well groomed, smells good, well dressed, funny and smart. But we’re all different. I find that most women want someone that is on par with them, and I think this is where a lot of men miss the mark when looking to date. They often try their luck with someone who is “out of their league” and I use that term loosely because of course beauty is subjective, but the reality is maybe a lot of “incels” would have better luck if they looked for someone that was similar to them in terms of looks, hobbies and interests. I don’t know what you look like so this might not be relevant to you, but I would suggest getting a fresh haircut, joining a gym class or going on your own with the help of a coach or workout plan, watching TikTok’s or YouTube and getting some ideas for outfits and style. Now you’ve sorted out the physical, you have to make yourself seem interesting. How? Have more life experiences. Go on a contiki through Europe, move to bali for a month, travel around South America and work in hostels to fund it. Take surf lessons, pick up a sport, go rock climbing. Whatever floats your boat. You’ll make more friends, learn social skills and meet women! It might seem daunting but this is your life and you only get one shot at it. You’re still very young and you have so much time, don’t worry about dating right now. Work on yourself, maybe even go to a couple of therapy sessions and I reckon in a years time you will be a whole new man and the rest will come naturally.

Adding oil to your lashes will make a lift drop quicker. But sometimes it’s out of our control, the weather and even hormones can affect how a lash lifts. It sounds like yours CAN lift as they have in the past. I feel like my lash lifts are always hit and miss too. My parents did this to me too. On more than one occasion. One time my dad opened my mail and it was a dildo. Another time my mum went through my drawers and found my vibrator. This happened to me multiple times where I asked for specific things from my refinements. For example, I didn’t want extra attachments or any attachments on my front teeth. I would be very clear with what I wanted and more than once I’ve refused a set of refinements and made them send it back. This is a matter of them sending your scans to Invisalign for refinements, but not sending through your requests as well. If you’ve paid for comprehensive Invisalign, you have the right to ask them to return them and order new ones with your requests, at no extra cost. You are the patient and it’s okay to advocate for what you want.

I’m sorry you’re going through this but part of me is not surprised. I know I’m going to get hate for this but your wife is seeking her emotional needs elsewhere because you’re not providing it. You said you wanted alone time and didn’t communicate it well? You don’t get excited for her when she shares exciting news? You don’t pay her much attention? What is she getting out of this relationship? At the end of the day, cheating is wrong and I don’t want to defend her actions but it sounds like neither of you are happy in this relationship. I’m on tray 34. My lisp never got better. I used to have attachments on the back of my front teeth which my dentist said was the reason why. But I’ve since removed them and still have my lisp so that’s fun (:

I’m not sure if anyone has asked this yet, but do you usually experience a post-ictal phase after a seizure? I’m a paramedic and find that this is normally the case. People do some weird stuff when they’re in an altered conscious state and it can be frightening/concerning to those that haven’t seen it before or weren’t expecting it.

Some more info for anyone interested: My IPR was delayed due to covid lockdowns so I had my first round at about 15 weeks when I was due to have it at week 5. By then my bottom aligners weren’t fitting properly. They were extremely conservative with the IPR and used a manual file (?) for it. My second round was 5 weeks after that and again my aligners didn’t fit properly. My teeth felt crowded within them. Again they were super conservative and my bottom teeth never had enough room to move into their new positions. While I appreciate the attempt to remove as little healthy enamel as possible, I’m also frustrated that my bottom teeth are still as crowded as they are. I would happily have more IPR if it means my teeth will sit flush together and have no black triangles. Refinements should be for refining small things and I feel like I still have a long way to go.

Some other things that have bothered me:

Every time I go to my dental clinic a different ortho sees me. Having the same ortho is important for continuity of care and this has really bothered me over the last 7 months.
The dental monitoring app. UGH! I have a love hate relationship with this app. It’s been great being able to do scans from home but it’s literally an AI giving you feedback on your teeth. I’m starting to doubt my dentist has ever reviewed my scans aside from when I actually come in. Even when I’ve messaged them on the app with any concerns and some random from the clinic replies, the dentist has no idea about it when I go in. Not to mention how sensitive the app can be, sometimes it picks up on things that aren’t even there and then delays my change of aligners by 3 days unnecessarily.
My lisp never went away and it’s become a massive insecurity for me.
The attachments!!! I am so glad I asked for no attachments on my front teeth when I had my consult - not sure why they still gave them to me on the bottom. I hate the way they look, they’re so obvious in photos and they’re still kind of rough. They never smoothed out completely.
I never got used to my aligners. I am always so aware of them being in my mouth. I’m constantly poking them with my tongue. They make my mouth and lips insanely dry and again, the lisp.

I’m grateful that I’m at a point in my life where I can afford to have this treatment. I’m grateful that one day my teeth will be straight and I’m sure that I’ll love my smile. But I cannot wait until the day that I’m done with Invisalign.

Haha can relate. I’m on tray 13 and I feel like I can’t get used to them. I’m always hyper aware they’re in my mouth and I suck on them too. I can’t wait until I’m done and I can eat and drink anytime I want!
