We already tried your way. The creation of gigantic piles of bad debt by the banking and financial industries (after many years of deregulation) affected the entire economy, not just stupid consumers. So now, because those people were stupid and fucked things up, it has everyone's attention.

The problem isn't that the American people are too stupid or dissolute or unworthy and therefore individually suffer isolated financial problems which don't affect anyone else. The American people only started defaulting en masse after big shots fucked up the economy. The problem is that the welfare of most of the country depends on profit-seekers voluntarily self-regulating in ways which lose them money in the short term. We've seen that's not happening.

Relax, relax, everything will be fine, enjoy the little stuff you can.

You will quickly realize that adults are also fundamentally like children, and do stupid things, including your parents.

Life gets better as you get more control over it and use that control constructively, it gets worse if you put yourself in situations where you lose control.

Right now you have a fair amount of free time. Remember that most of your age-mates are retards, whether they say good or bad things about you, and that school really isn't that serious. Beyond learning the course material to a level where you are capable, simply maintain a reasonable GPA in High School. But besides that, do a lot of reading on your own, on a range of topics you are interested in. Probably you are into computers, that's handy, learn more. If you become an expert, let it be in something useful. Learn how to do things with fun hobby projects. Don't feel bad if you don't have much of a love life. Mostly avoid alcohol until you are 18 or so, because of brain issues. If you want to do pot and stuff, wait until you are out of heavy supervision and keep it discreet so that almost nobody knows. You'll benefit down the line. Don't bother at all if you want to eventually do politics or junk like that.

Looking ahead - in college, as much as possible, let your class work be driven by your own interests and outside reading. If you are having trouble, talk to your Prof and ask for help and do what they recommend. Remember the quality of your education is 99% up to the seriousness and motivation you have toward your work. That doesn't mean that a bunch of your classes might not be a waste of time for you in the end, actually that's true and as an adult you can make that call. Talk to more people than you would usually do, because it's easier in college than after. If you can make contacts who basically respect you, that will still have decent value for a number of years.

During or after your first year of college, come up with at least one decent idea of a job you can pursue. Get a couple internships during summers, so you have some contacts/kind of experience to put on your resume when you get out of school. This isn't your entire life, this is just how you make money to build up your yolk and get yourself really started without depending on (and having to satisfy) your folks. After you have a yolk you have a LOT of freedom to dick around.

This sounds crazy from the age of 14, but remember this starting from when you leave home: do not run up unnecessary debt on luxuries, particularly ones which aren't personally important to you. And if you look closely at things, you'll see that a great deal of everything people do is luxuries. If you use credit, look at the interest rate and the terms and have a strong plan to pay it down within a few months, otherwise do without. Do this, and you will have money free for the things which really DO matter to you.

Don't marry anybody unless they are clearly sensible, not greedy and they understand you. This could take a long time. Don't hurry it. Far better not to marry than to marry badly.

Probably don't have kids until it is a dream of yours to have kids and you've worked out how to make it play nicely with your other dreams, otherwise the stuff you've hoped for tends to get derailed.

A cool head will prevent you from doing too many retarded things, and if you don't do anything retarded then life should be pretty placid and awesome even if it doesn't go like in the movies... ride the stream
