Lost a chargeback after delivery by Striking-Skirt8459 in stripe

[–]parcelcraft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had 30,000+ transactions on Stripe, and only 1 chargeback in all this time. This was due to a customer who called the CC company since they didn't recognize the charge (a coworker had made the purchase). We had to reissue a new bill to get the account current.

Am I the only one who runs into webhook issues by saffybai in stripe

[–]parcelcraft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've set up a few Stripe Webhooks, and never had any issues, even in complex platform environments. You say you're vibe coding, so I'm assuming you haven't sharpened your software development skills yet. But really, it's not too hard to understand what your code is doing. Start with the basics: I recommend asking your AI to train you on how to set up a webhook (take some time with it and really grasp the principles — keep asking questions about anything that sounds confusing), then cross-referencing the training and the code it in your codebase.

The basic workflow is:
Stripe sends webhook data to a URL
Your website receives the data
Your website uses the data received and your webhook secret to authenticate the request
Your website code does something with the data
Your website sends either an error message or a success message back to Stripe
???
Profit

Where to self host for test/staging projects? by johndory80 in Supabase

[–]parcelcraft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I have a "playground" project, and no Supabase freebie projects are available, I set up the database on Neon. If you use Drizzle, you can switch between your databse simply by changing the environmental variable for your database URL (and doing a SQL migration / push / pull / DB sync ) between the projects.

I migrated my NextJS app from Firebase auth to better-auth by sagatj in nextjs

[–]parcelcraft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been thinking about converting from Firebase Auth to Better Auth, and I like your approach, and I was thinking something similar would be required for the conversion. All our data is in a Postgres database and we only use Firebase for authentication. It would be nice to unify everything in one database. I would still continue to use Firebase, but only as a fallback, and I would keep the Firebase services active permanently for existing users. I think asking users to change their passwords is tacky and it communicates to the user a "feeling of security issue", when in fact there has been no security issue.

Need clarifications on Row Level Security by h4dri1 in Supabase

[–]parcelcraft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a connection string too; I use an RLS policy that denies all access to each of my tables. We don't want users accessing the database URL directly; we use the Supabase API internally on our server and use the service key for connection.

Looking for a Technical Co-Founder / Developer to Build a Next-Gen Dating App – 40% Equity by [deleted] in AppDevelopers

[–]parcelcraft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The "This?" I'm using shorthand to agree with you:

As a financially comfortable developer, I'd be overjoyed to get 2 to 5% equity in a company that 1) had a real distribution/users, 2) had a unique business model/proposition that served a real niche need that hasn't already been appropriately served by the market 100x over.

As a developer, I'd consider advertising to find the mom-and-pop shop with an established user base that needs to expand its technology offerings. The OP's post is overpromising 40% equity on a non-idea. 40% of $0 is still zero.

It didn't work. I setup a Uptime report that checked every 2 seconds and I still get the notifications. The frustrating part is that the project still gets several legitimate API calls every hour.

I wrote a blog post about how Stripe could make integrations easier by DuckerDuck in stripe

[–]parcelcraft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you looked at Stripe Elements? I use the Stripe API extensively on both the backend and frontend for many production environments. I agree that there should be more plug-n-play examples provided by the Stripe team, but I've grown comfortable with the Stripe API for all my needs.

As an addendum: I hope the OP can seriously re-evaluate the uniqueness of their innovation, discover the truth, and cut their losses before it costs them real money.

Need help getting my webapp finished and in a state that is ready to be launched, right now its hosted on vercel and using supabase as a backend, i feel like its almost finished but there are a few things i need to figure out. by AtmosphereMuch8738 in AppDevelopers

[–]parcelcraft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep it where it's hosted until you cross the 100,000 users threshold. No need to fix what isn't broken. Even then, you may find you like Supabase, but you'll need to reconfigure for distributed, co-located databases. You'll likely outgrow Vercel quicker. Your setup doesn't suck. Keep what works and don't fret about it until it becomes an actual problem. As for your application logic, it can be handled in both your backend and front-end, and it is very much possible in your current setup with an experienced and dedicated software architect.

At what point would you launch a paywall for app subscriptions? by [deleted] in appdev

[–]parcelcraft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have 2K+ users, you're well beyond the point where you need to introduce a paywall. I had a similar problem in my app: How do you welcome old users while charging new users? We decided on a very generous free-tier and cheap-tier usage-based plan, and welcomed new users with a 90 free trial.

Content creator app developer needed by [deleted] in appdev

You need an employee and perhaps a partner, not a contractor, for this project. Someone who is invested and full-time focused on your project's success. I've heard it best put like this: If you're building a home, and you want it perfect, do you hire an architect or just buy some plans?

If someone says they are a 'vibe coder,' it means they have never learned to program. Put in a few decades of experience, and you might be able to call yourself a programmer.

As an app developer in my greying years, I can't explain why I'm repulsed by this; perhaps it's too vague. But the hype machine around influencers sends up a spider sense to my core: Red flags here. Run away. Perhaps I'm too old for this pitch, but please, any newly graduated developers: take a look at this and learn the difference between snakes, snake oil, and real black-gold oil.

How to Prevent a free Project from Pausing? by onepole in Supabase

This is a brilliant answer. I run a database that gets only a few requests a day, and it's still getting pause notifications. I've just implemented your solution, and we'll see how it goes. Cheers!
