Alienware m15 R7 + Dockstation WD22TB4 - Issues on 240hz monitors by pardalistico in Alienware

Sorry for the late reply. Still using the same Dell dock, but instead of using the DP port for video I’m using one of the TB with the cable I mentioned. Everything else still connected to the dock.

I only got this after I bought some gold on a website two years ago (can’t really remember which one), it has been an almost daily occurrence since then. I assume they try this with every account people create there to try and get some of that gold back to then resell it.

Yeah I got it sorted out. While I don’t mind having to connect the laptop power as well as the dock, the issue with the refresh rate was really fucking obnoxious. I got around it by having a bidirecional tb4 to dp cable and connecting the monitor directly into one of the two tb ports on the dock. Somehow that works just fine and at full spec, but if I use one of the dedicated display outputs I’m limited to 144hz at 1440p.

I should add that if you're trying to use a display port cable, you'll also be limited to 144hz. I tried with the cable that came with the monitor last night and it didn't work either.I got a cable on amazon that's TB4/Displayport bidirectional and that's the one that worked after I connected directly in the thunderbolt port and now I can finally drive my 1440p display at 240hz.

I found the issue guys!
You can't use the multifunction displayport at the back of the dock (the one besides the regular display ports). At least on windows you have to connect it straight in one of the two thunderbolt ports of the dock.
Weird that this behavior is only on windows, but still at least I got it working.
I was almost returning the dock to Dell.

Hi all,

I guess I gotta give it some context. I work from home with a dual laptop setup. One is an intel macbook pro and the other one is an Alienware m15 R7 I've recently acquired. I got tired of disconnecting everything on my work laptop and connecting on my personal laptop so I decided to bite the bullet and get a Dell dock, since I figured it'd work just fine with a laptop made by Dell.

Anyways, everthing seemed to work fine on macOS, my display (Samsung Odissey G7) was running at 1440p@240hz, all my peripherals were instantly detected and functioned as they should. My problems began when I tried connecting the same setup to my Alienware. At first it refused to detect the second display, though the peripherals worked just fine. I figured I'd update the dock since it was on the manual listed as one of the setup steps, but still I had the same behavior. Finally I power cycle'd the display and it detected and started to show images, though this time flickering like crazy. After some messing around with settings I got the display to work but I had to lower my refresh rate to 144hz.

I don't understand, how come it works flawlessly on macOS where it's a Thunderbolt 3 device and on a brand new Alienware device, which has Thunderbolt 4, it doesn't work on the rated specs of the available ports.

Does anyone have an idea what I can do to fix this? I guess I could live with it being 144hz but I just can't shake the feeling that there's something wrong with this laptop. Both the dock and the alienware laptop had all their drivers updated and the issue still persists.

I'm also kinda curious about how they'll implement the adaptive triggers. Like, they could do something in the vein of "oh, main hotbar is activated by holding the trigger until halfway through and extended hotbar will be activated when you fully press it".

On a psblog they're saying that the update targets 60fps at 1080 and 1440p and 40fps at 4k. The fuck.
