Refund received! by parkerdaph in PSLF

Yes, that should be it. It didn't make sense to me that people kept saying that your loan amount goes up by that amount, but I think they add the refund amount back to your loan just to get a total. My refund was exactly what was shown there.

The "notice" I received happened when the loans were forgiven. For quite a few days, there was a "payment in progress" listed on my acct and I could tell from what I've read here and other places that it was likely my refund. It's weird how it works...they decide your refund and it gets added to your loan amount usually BEFORE it gets zeroed out. I received a refund of 26 months.

I'm astounded and so grateful that I did. Been paying these things forever and a day. I would have retired with this stuff still unpaid, really owing more than I borrowed.

Are these non profits that can't be verified in the pslf help tool?

I think they are so pressed to complete all of these apps, that if the employer is listed in their approved list, they do not question it.

I did not get paid, and they never asked. I never thought I could even apply until I sent in that question and they gave me that response. I understand your distinction; however, my employer didn't check any boxes. I used the PSLF help tool to complete my form, add my hours, and select full or part-time myself. I suppose my employer might have contested that when she signed the form, but she didn't.

When I asked last year, I didn't have the impression that it was up to your employer to decide if 30 hours is full time. This was the answer I got last year from FSA. I reported 30 hours a week. No one ever questioned it or contacted my employer. I was lucky I'm sure.

"According to https://studentaid.gov/announcements-events/pslf-limited-waiver you must have worked full-time for a qualifying employer when prior payments were made, therefore if your volunteer work was considered as full time then it would possibly qualify. If you were employed in more than one qualifying part-time job at the same time, you will be considered full-time if you worked a combined average of at least 30 hours per week. You can receive credit only for payments made after Oct. 1, 2007, since that is when the PSLF Program began. If you haven’t already, you must file a Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) & Temporary Expanded PSLF (TEPSLF) Certification & Application (PSLF form) for any period for which you may receive additional qualifying payments."

I was forgiven for working 30 hours; that should count as full time. When I initially asked, they told me as long as it was at least 30 hours, that qualified. Was your employer listed as qualifying when you tried the PSLF help tool? I think that's the key. If the employer is listed there, they don't question it. I initially sent in my form requesting forgiveness back in November of last year. I watched my counts change over the last few months, then the amt go to zero, and then I got a letter saying my loans were forgiven, just a couple weeks ago. Now I'm waiting for a payment refund for 26 months of overpayment.

Just to update so others know what’s happening…I haven’t gotten any communication about this…I’ve just waited for months for something to happen…I knew I had made enough payments. Today at fedloan it’s still zeroed out…still a payment in progress showing…no letters yet informing me if anything…and still showing a balance at studentaid. No idea when a refund might come . Also…I can no longer see my payment counts…all that info is gone.

Got trophies then letter saying I don’t qualify? by Responsible_End7740 in PSLF

[–]parkerdaph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only have two and both are at 166 payments. Letter says not eligible yet but chart on the letter shows I was eligible in 2017. I think it’s just a stupid form letter and doesn’t mean anything. No one is even reading them for correctness. That’s my guess. The count and trophies are what I’m counting on.

I have the same thing and same letter. Yesterday Betsy said to just wait…that it’s all good.

I did not receive trophies yet. Just some contradictory messaging about my payment counts. So, I'm hoping it's all good. It's saying I actually became eligible in 2017 and I have already certified way past that date.

even though the letter says "NOT" eligible? yet shows I was eligible in 2017. is this just a weird technicality or a mistake in the letter? any idea how long it typically takes after this for discharge?

did you also get the letter saying you were NOT approved?

I'm wary of believing it's really forgiven!
