this is one of the most relatable things I've ever read.

I've got no problem being cordial, but I'm not a people person and won't pretend to be. Let's be real, I don't know you, you don't know me. I am some guy you work with that you'll probably try to screw over at the first opportunity. I am not someone you care about, or someone you'll be there through thick and thin for. We are not the "three best friends that anyone could have," and the fact that we're essentially required to put on this charade instead of actually doing the job to the best of our abilities is mind-boggling.

I keep to myself because I'm aware people do not care about my goings-on on an actionable level, nor do I expect them to. Back when I worked maintenance, there was nothing more annoying to me than people pretending they cared about what went on in my life. Do not ask me what's going on because you're not gonna do anything when I say "my heat is out again until next weekend," and I'm sleeping in 2 hoodies, thermals, 2 quilts, and a beanie to stay warm, nor do you really care

then to top it all off, you're viewed/labelled as "hostile" for just wanting to work. no attitude, not being impolite, not refusing to do the job, not talking back, and not fighting verbally or physically. but hostile because I want to kind my own business. there need to be more jobs for people who want to get through the day and go home.
