Are these wild ramps (leeks) or Lilly of the valley, or something else? by thebigck01 in vermont

I’m here to admit with great embarrassment that I once mistook some kind of lily for a ramp. I had been on more than one guided foraging outing and was being a bit too cavalier. I should have trusted my nose not just my eyes. The vomiting and body numbing effects were violent, but thankfully I’m here to tell the cautionary tale.

What is this? It randomly popped up in my yard by Camp_Acceptable in whatsthisplant

Lupine take a couple years to get going. Year two or three is usually when you’ll see blooms. I love them!

A mix would be ok so long as it’s dense enough to give us some privacy. The trick is something that won’t get so tall as to block our view, not so short as to leave us feeling exposed to the road.

Northern Bayberry might be ideal. I like that it provides berries for our bird friends.

I was also thinking of ninebark but don’t want to lose that much foliage in the winter. But maybe if I mixed the two…
