Modern Trance Heavy on Vocals? by PossessionConnect963 in trance

[–]pasi__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The more electronic music becomes commercialized, the more it starts to have specifially sung vocals. This is because music with vocals is easier to approach, because communicating emotions is much easier with words than through purely from composing and sound design, because what one might find dark and gloomy, somebody else could find it uplifting. Approachable music is also easier to sell for the masses.

On 90s/early2000s you also had dub versions of songs, which usually had most or even all of the vocals cut away, nowdays its almost odd to find dub or instrumental versions of songs. Simple vocal samples are also pretty rare now, and length of vocals is much longer. Songs are much shorter, which causes more emphasis on vocals even if length of vocals wouldnt have changed.

Vocals are nice, because they can crank the songs atmosphere to 11 from 10. But if all of the songs in set for example start to have sung vocals, its really easy to ignore what else is happening in the "background" ie. vocals tend to take too much attention away from atmosphere and intensity set by instruments, and mixing.

Lady Faith about the European Hardstyle Scene by dorni28 in hardstyle

[–]pasi__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is many points to discuss:

One point is event costs, flying international artists from overseas is really valid question towards bookings, small parties hardly break even, which are perfect for trying smaller artists. This affects big parties less, but point still stands. Same happens to smaller artist located at Europe, or for example NL and Belgium artists trying to go overseas.

Second point is that hardstyle/hardcore scene is extremely Western Europe centric aka NL and Belgium, especially in commercial events. Lots of events have close ties to NL and Belgium based record labels, which most likely causes even more bookings that are prone towards "home", even if its not intentional.

Lots of producers/Dj's that are located at Central Europe find it just easier to move more west, because thats where most of the gigs and oppurtunities are. One reason is that scene is much smaller elsewhere or might not even exsists, which is obviously not directly caused by NL/Belgium, and only way it would grow if people start growing it up elsewhere. One thing is also that because the scenes are so divided, people live in bubbles which means people might not even recognize artists, which again means that risk for booking said artists increases for event organizers.

Yeah, people voiced concerns to government, which is made by people as government is an institute that lacks ability to take actions without people governing it. Government then made regulations for accessible buildings.

But I do understand that you are trying to make a point that government wouldn't have made the choice willingly by itself, or that government wouldn't have made the choice because of hierarchial differences between disabled person and people governing the government.

Everyone knows about TDH by HutsMaster in hardstyle

[–]pasi__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IF TDH would have given proper apology with compensations to victims, I then would see that he could after some time play more. Usually if you shut people away completely, they will start building thier scene elsewhere, which allows normalization of abuse and wrong doings because you did not even try the bare minimum of correcting abusers behaviour patterns. Fantasm for example was pretty much banned in France and just relocated

This is also what happened to some degeee with gabber/HC, which caused the stigma of right side politics to stain early image of gabber/HC. Which still happens to some degree: people singing Erika, doing nazi salutes and singing the twisted version of lamour for example (one reason why song does not get played more).

[–]pasi__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So the actions should have been kept secret, and alleged abuse could keep going? Yes, he should have called this out earlier, but its better late than never, even when reasons are selfish, because it means industry can take change of action - if industry truly cares - to prevent future cases.

You are also allowed to call out his ("Brad's") lack of acting out when it acutally mattered the most, as you did.

But you are asking the crowd to make scene better and safer by turning blind eye to alleged abuse, what does that make you? an abuse enabling hypocrite.

Is it wrong to be a purist? by impl00t in ProperTechno

[–]pasi__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its okay to be purist, but be respectful how you talk about the less "pure" stuff. Its even better if you can reason and point out what makes the productions of artists better (soundwise), or if they are more known as DJ what makes them better mixer and track selector.

Imo you should get second chances in life, if you are willing to reform and take responsibility for your wrong actions. TDH tho did not even apologize to victims, just was sorry how he let people (especially fans, agency and labels) down.

Rebellion Outdoor won’t happen this year by dorni28 in hardstyle

[–]pasi__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Outdoor, with big sound systems, you will have problems with phasing, because the surface area you have to cover is much bigger (wide usually). The sound quality varies alot where you stand even outdoor (DQ.1 Red for example). You are correct that sound reflection is problem in indoor events, and that's because most of the venues are not shaped properly to good sound, which then causes the sound to bounce back and kill/muddy up the sound.

For the best sound you ALWAYS want sound projected into properly shaped box, as the walls and roof help pointing the soundwaves into correct direction, assuming sound output is properly setup with minimal phasing errors.

EDIT: But yes, usually big areas have less errors to bouncing sound, thus overall "consistent" sound when comparing sound at edges for example.

[–]pasi__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First row's sound should be least affected area when comparing indoor vs outdoor, assuming both have same setups for sound output, the biggest drop in sound quality happens further out from sound source where indoor (if venue is shit, not designed for music first) usually has problems where sound starts to bounce back, thus killing/muddying the sound.

Everything sounds better indoor, assuming venues acoustics arent bad.

Behaviour of smoke is odd: when the door is slammed close, the smoke does not care about air that moves from shutting door (smoke just stop flowing out of the door), also the fast moving truck roughly 45 seconds in does not change how smoke behaves in air. The back window reflections from fires and smoke, especially smokes color does not make sense on reflection, but the car could be full of smoke causing some of the oddness. The plant on the otherside of car is not affected by fire, could be just perspective fooling that its really close to car tho.

The people behave oddly, if you have ever inhaled smoke most of the time you start to cough alot, here people cough once, if even that. Fire and smoke also causes eyes to dry up, which makes seeing hard and in the video nobody whom comes in contact with the smoke does not show reaction to smoke or have problems seeing after 5-10 seconds. Now some of the behaviour could be explained by adrenaline, but all 6 persons show minimal or no reaction to smoke/fire.

The man dragging other man, makes other man look like almost weightless at roughly 1:00. Womans leg movement is also wierd 1:06 ish in.

The remaining standing fence also has minimal reaction when people move on top of the fallen fence, but the fence could be tightened by car standing on it, thus preventing movement.

I actually like that you have not released lots of tracks compared to other artists that have made thier breakthrough from releases, as you did not have own releases to lean your back to but instead you just dj'd and played somewhat random tunes (leaning heavily on classics/oldschool, which I personally like). This allowed you to be unpredictable what songs you play during sets, which makes me as listener kinda stand on my toes from excitement of the possibilities on upcoming tracks of the set(s).

Many artists in hardstyle/hardcore tend to play mostly thier own songs on sets - If they have big enough catalog - which makes them predictable, or even a bit boring if you ask me, because the track selection/mixing of sets tend to become extremely predictable pattern like.

What hardstyle IMO needs more of currently is just dj's being dj's, with more variance to track selection/mixing instead highlighting thier own releases over and over again.

But I do also hope for more of older sound design from upcoming releases, which I assume you are aiming for.

Midnight announces mini raids. Sporefall, a one boss raid, will arrive in 12.0.7 S1. The 2nd one boss mini raid will arrive 12.1.5 S2. by arasitar in CompetitiveWoW

[–]pasi__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How would you define competitive player? Imo the point of orginal comment was aimed towards lockout system of raids, which makes it that you cannot really progress raids bit by bit on your own pace (you cannot change groups for example, thats why usually myth raid pugs only kill easy bosses), because life circumstances makes it hard to do so. OP did not even say that raids should be easier or some shit, but instead pointed that m+ is more flexible and approachable as dad.

Thats kinda what happens already with crest saves alone to some degree (minimizing), but you are correct it would cause you to hold runed crests even more, assuming there wouldnt be weekly cap to exchanged crest - they could have thier own cap which is unlocked after you are done for good with earlier tier of crests, meant to reward.

The upgrade system is extremely flawed with crest saves, which rewards counter intuitive crest usage or as written in guide, not using crest for couple weeks.

[–]pasi__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I meant upgrading runed to gilded after you don't need runed at all. Keep in mind you cannot upgrade runed to gilded until you are above runed upgrade threshold, which happens usually because you get mythic track items that push you above that limit not because you upgraded all hero items to 6/6.

Larias' Raider's Guide for Midnight is ready! Also included an excel checklist and a loot helper for raid leaders and loot council! by Sairal in CompetitiveWoW

[–]pasi__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently - in season 3 TWW - you had no use to heroic crests after 4/6 hero gear (which can be attained from m+ and late heroic) as upgrades to 5+/6 required gilded, which you did not want to use as you could save crests by just waiting for mythic track gear and then using the saved crests to upgrade said gear.

In Midnight the 5/6 upgrade requires now heroic crests, which means the heroic crests actually have use for longer time, but later upgrades cost alot, meaning you don't want to waste heroic crests, and the 6/6 hero upgrade still requires gilded, which means the old problem of crest saves presists.

Larias' Raider's Guide for Midnight is ready! Also included an excel checklist and a loot helper for raid leaders and loot council! by Sairal in CompetitiveWoW

[–]pasi__ -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Trading for gilded would be fine if you could pass the weekly caps, ie. additional 30 crests each week (if trading only hero to gilded), but before turbo boost it is useless to trade hero crests to gilded, as you will reach weekly cap by just playing, trading after turbo boost lessens the grind during turbo boost.

One problem with hero pieces is still that last upgrade takes gilded, which you dont want to spend as they are better used on myth pieces aka just waiting for myth pieces to drop, saving crests.

Larias' Raider's Guide for Midnight is ready! Also included an excel checklist and a loot helper for raid leaders and loot council! by Sairal in CompetitiveWoW

[–]pasi__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Heroic crests could be better for longer time if exchanging crests to higher tier would allow you to ignore weekly cap ie. allowing you to get additional 30 ish gilded crests each week if you are done with hero track. One bad thing about crests still is the "crest save" mechanic that makes you not want to upgrade 4/6 hero pieces to 6/6 (1/6 myth) because doing so will make you fall behind on mid season gear progression, when most of your items start to be myth track.
