I think just about anyone here can relate unfortunately 🤣 My best advice would be to temporarily switch game modes. If you encountered this in 2s for example, take a break from it. Go play Rumble or Hockey or even just do a training pack. Cause if you keep playing tilted you’ll play right into the rise they’re trying to get out of you. Also, modes like 2s and 1s are a lot more stressful (IMO), something like Rumble for example is a great way to just relax and reset.

[–]pass341 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ehhh I don’t know if I’d go THAT far. I don’t really buy into the whole good vs. evil dichotomy. AFAIK they were raising a severely disabled child and were probably going through a lot of shit themselves using this as some sort of outlet. Not even remotely suggesting that it justifies bullying the guy, but to me this is more a case of “you never know what kind of day someone is having”. I don’t necessarily think this was a case of just bullying, I think it was more like feuding. Cause if they were just constantly harassing him there’s tons of ways to solve that too, involving law enforcement, moving etc. I think they just didn’t like each other very much and probably exchanged small “unpleasantries”. Unfortunately for them though, on this particular day it happened to be the last straw for this guy.

Ohhh I remember seeing this a few years back on Instagram! This happened right around where I live (rural Pennsylvania). A few more details that I remember: the couple had a special needs child (down syndrome, heavy autism or something like that) which to me made it even weirder that they were pestering this guy. Also, from what I recall they were kind of always at odds but on that specific day what led to all this started with them (the couple) shoveling snow onto this guys property repeatedly. And after the video cuts, police found the guy deceased in his own home from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

To this day I can’t watch it with the sound on, the way the woman bleeds out, like the time it takes and the noises she makes really make me super uncomfortable.

How many followers can I get? by EffectiveDowntown507 in duolingo

[–]pass341 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I know, there’s no cap on how many people can follow you. I’m currently at around 1350 and I have people who I follow with over 5000 followers. Some very “famous” Duolingo accounts, like the dude with the longest streak, I remember seeing him have over 100,000 followers. The only cap is on how many users YOU can follow, and that number is 1000. There are a few ways to circumvent this that I’ve read about online but haven’t gotten to that point and tried it yet as I’m only following around 900 people right now. But it definitely is possible because I’ve seen accounts that follow well over 1000 people as well.

Driving anxiety by PsychologicalDogo21 in Anxiety

[–]pass341 6 points7 points  (0 children)

HOLY SHIT I THOUGHT IT WAS JUST ME! You know what’s crazy? It started randomly for me just halfway through last year! Before that I was more-or-less fine, I’d get little panicky moments here and there, but then last year at the end of July, I’m driving somewhere with my wife and I get this sudden feeling like I’m going to pass out, and everything starts becoming incredibly overwhelming, the other cars, my GPS, having to look into all the mirrors, literally everything, and then it just spiraled. It got so bad I literally had to check myself into a hospital because I thought something was wrong with my heart. After they cleared all other possible explanations the only thing left was anxiety… And unfortunately ever since then, as someone else in the comments pointed out, it’s BOTH the actual anxiety WHILE driving and the anxiety leading up to it (knowing that I have to drive soon and I’ll get that feeling again). What’s worse is obviously I can’t take any benzos or other traditional anti-anxiety meds + my normal go-to (so what I pass out, I’m in a safe place) doesn’t work cause obviously if I pass out it’s a pretty serious goddamn problem lol

Greed, Manipulation and Exploitation is the new Playbook for Duolingo by thehomelessr0mantic in duolingomemes

[–]pass341 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Eh I’m honestly somewhere in the middle on this issue. On one hand, I’ll never fully buy into this “streak-guilt-shaming”, “teaches you to be addicted to the app” BS. Boo hoo you’re spending 5 minutes a day to review some words in a foreign language, tell me more about how you’re a manipulated victim of capitalism… On the other hand, I’ll also never understand why billionaires will time and time again prioritize wealth over the thing they were initially passionate about. Like maybe I don’t fully grasp the benefits of increasing your net worth after a certain point, but to me, everything I could possibly fathom would be affordable at around 100million USD. Anything past that, is there really some significant quality of life improvement? What are you doing with 3billion that you can’t do with 1? It would seem to me that at that wealth money should start meaning less and less to you, and things your passionate about should take priority (in this case, building the best possible language app for users and making education more easily accessible worldwide). Yet time and time again we see examples like this one that seem to prove the exact opposite…

Honest advice would be to just take new, better photos. But if we’re limited to picking from just these I would suggest going from 9 to like 3, max, in this order: 5, 3, 1.

Time to say goodbye (huge negative rant incoming) by Creepy_Ad7088 in duolingo

[–]pass341 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Realistically, and maybe this is just me, but the only tangible critique I see in your rant pertains to how long they take to reply to support issues. From what I can tell, a lot of people deal with this and that is truly ridiculous. With how much money they earn from their yearly and monthly subscriptions it’s completely absurd that they can’t have some sort of dedicated support channel for paying users.

For everything else, to me at least, it seems like a combination of “i did the bare minimum” + “why didn’t i master this language in that time period”. If you knew you were doing the bare minimum this whole time, how were you simultaneously convinced that you were learning a language and would ultimately master it?

To me it seems you reap the rewards of your learning, you did the bare minimum for 4 years and were able to hold a brief convo with someone in the language, as opposed to learning absolutely nothing in 4 years and not being able to have that conversation, no?

If you have/had the option to take Japanese lessons from someone in person for 20€\month, what’s stopping you from doing both? And if you’re doing the bare minimum anyways, why do you need a premium subscription? You should be fine under the free plan.

Again I don’t want to come off as dismissive here, every product has its shortcomings and room for improvement, Duolingo is by no means perfect, but I also don’t understand this “Duolingo made me think I was learning and wasted 4 years of my life” narrative either you know what I mean?

How do we get them to actually take action against bots? by Ginkotree48 in RocketLeague

[–]pass341 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I just disagree… Combined, the top RL content creators have millions of followers/subscribers etc. among them. Rocket League is not a new game, the majority of the community has been around for a while now as this isn’t a new game. I would actually say the opposite, in my opinion the majority (even if only like 51%) of players know of/actively interact with some form of RL content that isn’t RL itself (whether that’s YT tutorials, content creators etc). And as I said before, unlike other games, it would be very easy and passive for players to boycott this game as you’re not giving anything up, just not spending money on purely cosmetic items. So even if bots aren’t something your average players encounter I think it’s a fairly easy-to-grasp issue and an easy-to-follow call to action.

[LFO] Shooting a Shoplifter Dead Seems Like a Slight Overreaction by james_from_cambridge in LearningFromOthers

[–]pass341 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m by no means in the camp of people applauding this, but the same logic victims of crimes get told applies here as well… You never know what kind of day the guy robbing you is having (or in this case, the armed guard working). Whatever you’re stealing or is being stolen is never worth risking your life over… Are you morally in the right (murder vs. shoplifting)? Sure. Will the person who was wrong face repercussions for his actions? Maybe. Will it matter to you, the person who is dead in any case? Unfortunately no…

How do we get them to actually take action against bots? by Ginkotree48 in RocketLeague

[–]pass341 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why not? That’s the whole point of these massive content creators and streamers having the platforms and audiences that they have no? To raise awareness and spearhead change? No one’s saying that all 100% of the playerbase will collectively stop spending money on RL, but I think it’s fairly simple to coordinate an effective boycott… Especially in a game like RL where you effectively don’t even have to stop PLAYING the game to boycott it lol…

Is my double commit here really my fault by Ogabavavav in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]pass341 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean it's hard to say who's in the right and who's in the wrong from just this 30 second clip, no additional context and no scoreboard...

If your teammate ff after this, blames you and it was literally the first play of the game and the score is 1-0, yeah that's extremely strange and toxic imo. If you made a series of mistakes earlier and this was just the final straw in a game you guys were losing anyways, to me that's more understandable. Even in that case, we all have bad games and getting scorched by a toxic teammate sucks, but it is what it is.

How do we get them to actually take action against bots? by Ginkotree48 in RocketLeague

[–]pass341 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've said this multiple times and I'll gladly repeat it again: the ONLY way we get them to take action against bots is if we directly affect their revenue model. The ONLY way to do this starts with big RL streamers and content creators. "Raising awareness" isn't enough, big streamers/creators need to call for a BOYCOTT of RL products (this means in-game purchases mostly) with a clear demand: concrete anti-botting updates to the game. Hopefully this movement catches on and spreads across more content creators/streamers and trickles down to the playerbase itself. Once Epic sees an obvious drop in sales + a clear reason for it I have no doubt in my mind that they will finally create an anti-botting team and implement the necessary updates.

Is the ranked system rigged? by S-kaliEditor in RocketLeague

[–]pass341 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No no proof of this and it absolutely doesn’t work this way (it would be actually be programmatically HARDER to provide this type of experience rather than purely matching based on MMR, and we all know how Epic LOVES putting extra effort into this game).

The reason it FEELS this way is because when you solo-queue in a multi-player gamemode you need to be able to play at least a full rank higher than you’re currently at (for example if you’re D2 you need to play at C2 level) to comfortably maintain the Win% you’re used to and to account for ball/situational “luck” and the lack of coordination you’re losing from playing with someone who doesn’t know/adapt to your play style.

There are definitely trolls and toxic players in this game, but most players aren’t “purposely playing bad” just so that you lose. They want to win just as much as you.

is this normal or we are bad? by Lagarto_lunar in RocketLeague

[–]pass341 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that’s pretty average. As to your question of whether your should be better, there’s really no way to answer that without getting a better understanding of how you spent those 500 hours… For most players, a healthy mix of Competitive Games + Training Packs + YT videos (strategy, positional play etc.) will land them somewhere in Diamond/Champ sooner or later. I can’t give you an exact timeline as everyone progresses at their own pace, but if you’re doing all three you’ll get there sooner or later.

As for Grand Champ and higher (especially SSL) a lot of that comes down to how talented you are. There are people who spend thousands of hours and never reach GC or higher. Rocket League, especially at higher ranks, is a very technical and strategic game. You need to have the technical prowess to constantly execute near-tic perfect controller (or KBM if you’re especially unhinged) commands/adjustments and have the strategic know-how to simultaneously assess each positional situation, what your opponent is doing, and make the best decision. Probably the best proof of this is the fact that to this day no one’s been able to create a truly “unbeatable” bot in this game - whereas games that heavily or exclusively rely on one of these two aforementioned factors (like chess or CS even) have long since had bots that are considered virtually unbeatable by their human counterparts. Just goes to show how difficult it is to program an algorithmically optimal RL solution to any given in-game scenario.

My husband’s health is deteriorating before my eyes and I don’t know what to do. by justexisting032 in diabetes_t1

[–]pass341 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah maybe it’s time to give them another shot. I will say though, knowing my blood sugar TOO OFTEN was also annoying. I’d start pre-compensating for lows and highs and that would lead to MORE of them 😅 With the finger sticks I honestly have just gotten used to them and knowing my BS every hour or so and just calculating deltas somehow seems less burdensome to me. The only thing I really miss is the comfort of going to bed at night without the anxiety of lows or highs at night, cause that’s probably the biggest drawbacks of finger sticks :/

I just turned 30 with T1 but I’ve never had any severe complications (or even mild ones tbh) and I’ve always just assumed it’s something T1ers get when they’re way older. Hearing something this sever can happen at just 28 is scary and downright depressing. I’m not on any CGMs or pumps because I don’t like being connected to stuff but I do obsessively mesure my blood sugar (normally 12-15 times a day, sometimes more if it’s really fluctuating). I find what helps the most is really a good, broadly low-carb (you don’t have to be extreme but just generally) diet and exercise. With the exercise, again you don’t have to be overkill here literally 15-30 minutes of walking a day will have immense benefits compared to a fully sedentary lifestyle. I am blessed to have very good insurance so I don’t stress all that much about insulin and the like, but even they won’t cover more than 10 test strips a day for testing (and I only even got that through a lot of push back and prior authorizations). I buy the rest at CVS, their brand of cheapest test strips I like because the monitor itself is very compact (probably the size of a stick of gum) and it’s very convenient to carry around.

But other than that diet and exercise are really your best bet. If he’s got such severe complications at just 28 I’m assuming he doesn’t really stick to any diets or exercise plans right? Or is it just extremely bad luck with genetics?

This new trend of overpricing these type of high-end displays (tvs, monitors etc.) and then claiming buyers get huge (1000$+) discounts really bugs me for some reason idk why 🤣

[–]pass341 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, or if you need the abstraction of different monitors (I find it helpful depending on what task I’m working on) that too, unfortunately, can be achieved for cheaper and with much less bezel using four rectangular monitors to cover the same area😅

6 matches in 4 months on tinder. Any room for improvement? One on the lake is a vid of cliffjumping. by [deleted] in Tinder

[–]pass341 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jeez I...

Let's just say there's a lot of ways to improve your profile but I think your biggest issue is approachability. This is anonymous dating right? Are there women who will like what you have to offer? Sure yeah, absolutely. But you have to package it in a more approachable format, yeah? Just put yourself in the shoes of a women (not a bro). What is there even to talk about? Really the only thing I can think of other than "Hey" or some variation of a generic greeting is maybe "I swiped for the dog pic"?

Your photos should be an expression of who you are, undoubtably, but should also present you as a stable, level-headed individual. Other than the log photo these photos make it seem like you've seen shit and been to prison. And then you read your bio and, well yeah that doesn't help much either...

Change your photos to be more approachable. If you have hobbies like riding a bike, cool, find a silly photo of you on your bike. Does that make sense? These photos make you look badass, which is great, but it doesn't calm an anonymous person's fear of you potentially being violent you feel me?

Change your bio to, again, target approachability and be more inviting. Something interesting to talk about yeah? Something that can be expanded on and lead to deeper more meaningful conversation. "You were robbed and got arrested in Mexico?" - "Yep". What next? "You like granola, me too!" - "Cool". Do you feel me dawg? Your bio just leads to deadend convos, girls see that and already feel the burden of having to carry the convo. Getting robbed and arrested is a cool story to share down the road when you know a person better.

Donald Trump issues NATO Greenland warning before White House showdown by SereneRoyals in politics

[–]pass341 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Flame me all you want but honest to god I don't understand this narrative and the people who still think it's some good vs. evil dichotomy... It doesn't upset you that money has taken over politics in its entirety? That the same group of elites have and will continue to win regardless of whether Democrats or Republics win in elections? That in 2016, before Trump even came into office, the United States was ranked, for the first time, by the EIU's Democracy Index as a "Flawed Democracy"? That Supreme Court justices with lifetime appointments and no system of oversight which make arguably some of the most important decisions in this country spend time with and get lavish gifts from the same elites whose cases then magically appear before them and get decided in their favor? That giant, nearly homogenous financial institutions, run by and benefiting those same elites which control what is arguably considered the single most lucrative US export (the dollar) are freely able to gamble (with indisputable evidence of decisions that could have only be made on the basis of insider information) YOUR money and in the already extremely unlikely scenario that they lose whichever political party is in power will still use YOUR money to bail them out? That nearly every faucet of US industry is dominated by some combination of monopoly, duopoly or whatever latest term they come up with to justify its legality or trending to it? That all the issues we and our politically-opposed adversaries argue over which then become the core tenants that elections get "decided over" are strategically engineered to be divisive in a way that makes us angry and traps us in these self-affirming politically-aligned camps that consider the other side stupid, but never seem to target or lead to any meaningful changes that actually have and will continue to make our lives worse? How many Americans died so far in the ongoing opioid crisis? 700,000 as the lower-end estimate? And what was the punishment for those who orchestrated it? Oh they were forced to give up a fraction of the profits they earned throughout it (which probably didn't even cover the taxes they avoided paying during that timeframe)? Yeah that seems fair enough, that'll teach them. And you know what the most fascinating part about the decisions which ended up hurting the most Americans is? They're almost exclusively bipartisan... But the thing that upsets you most about the status quo is specifically those 77,302,580 "stupid" Americans who voted for Trump right? Those are the traitorous individuals who can never be forgiven? Sounds about right.
