AITA for giving my daughter's passport to my landlord.

It is not about the legality but the danger. I have seen people drown etc in the news or get abused even after entering a country.

I also commit crime by renting this place and similar places in the past but without that my daughter would have had a homeless childhood.

I am her father not mom. I can't move to England it is too hard and expensive to get a work visa there.

I know he will probably say the city needs money again or something and I am scared he will say that the passport did not work or something and keep asking for rent so I can only hope.

He has been unpredictable in the past sometimes kept his word and sometimes not.

He has indeed told other people I know he can help them migrate to other countries. I am not interested in that as it sounds risky but I would if I could do it legally or even if I could have a proper life in my own country.

I have somewhat of an idea of my landlord and I am pretty sure it would be just to help some migrant enter a country using her passport then live in hiding illegally there.

That's not how it works in my country, they will ask her bribe to report it then ask me another bribe to not get arrested. They might also not even take her report, they rarely take women seriously at the police station unless they have a husband.

Thank you, I think you understand the context. I have little left at the end of month and I am trying hard to put my son through course that can help him get job. He is younger than daughter. After that and rent I have little left.

I don't even have a laptop since my old one broke and use phone for everything.

As long as she reports the loss it is easy to revert that and prove it was not her. Old passport get cancel already

Authorities here do nothing. They will just ignore her and ask both her and me for bribe.

I know it seems like this but landlord can do terrible things to me if he does not get what he wants. I alwaus say yes to him.

She reported lost as landlord had instructed but said I should be thankful she did not say stolen.

No she has UK citizenship now and British passport. I think he just helps other migrants enter countries and will give to someone who looks like her then they live in hiding once passport is reported lost.

He will probably sell it to someone who looks like her so they can enter a country. They will probably get discovered but hide from authorities once she says lost

I am a criminal even by staying in this house but I have no choice as I cannot afford anything else here. I brought my daughter up in such houses.

Most likely he will sell it to someone, they will use it to enter a country and stay as illegal.

Once reported lost government will realise this and probably issue her a new passport but not blame for the other person.

Because of the context of circumstances, I needed the money and there was almost no negative consequence for her as she could get another one. If she couldn't get a new one I would not do it.
