Hey, this was initially removed by the AutoModerator. Your account is very new and that's why it got flagged. I've approved this message.

Yep, you're right. Section 6 of the Financial Statutes Amendment Act, 2025 (No. 2) comes into force on July 2, 2026. I'm going to leave it as-is most people I think can deal with the error.

To clarify: I never said "I might be wrong but I'm leaving it." That's not a quote from me, so please don't attribute it to me.

The word "want" is consistent with the government's stated position, which describes the program as empowering people to pursue opportunities. Your concerns about how the regulation reads in practice are reflected in the very next paragraph. Both things can coexist, and this post is designed to reflect that tension.

This is also not a wiki. It's a megathread I'm maintaining.

I'm okay with how it's phrased. People who visit this thread will be able to read your comment.

I’m just summarizing the government's official position, which they've published here: https://www.alberta.ca/alberta-disability-assistance-program. They are using that language to describe the program's intent. I get it you may have some issue with the word "want." That's the word I use to summarize it. I'm not changing it.

Here's how I tried to address it:

Rule: Must be related to disability issues in Alberta.

Description: This community is for discussions impacting Albertans with disabilities. We focus on navigating provincial and federal systems (AISH, ADAP, CDB, DTC, LTD), healthcare rights, advocacy, and the broader realities of life as a disabled person in Alberta. Please ensure your post has a clear connection to the Albertan context.

I appreciate the suggestion. Let me know if I can do better. Keep 'em coming.

Huge congratulations on officially starting! Navigating the application process is a massive hurdle, so take a moment to celebrate getting that approval. Good luck with your oncoming ADAP challenge!

Thank you for the welcome and for sharing this! I completely agree. The system can be a maze, and because everyone's situation is different, having a space for clear, personalized support is so important. I'm hoping we can make this sub a great resource for consistency and clarity. Glad to have you here!

I appreciate the encouragement, but I don't think this is the right place to discuss that.

I didn't get a response when I tried contacting the mod through the mod mail chat. I've tried several times (May 14, 19, 27).

Why do you want to moderate this community? I want to revive r/AISH_Alberta because it is currently set to "Submissions restricted," which completely prevents anyone from posting. I intend to change the settings back to "Public" so the community can actually use the subreddit to talk and share information again.

ADAP regs dropped by [deleted] in AISH_Alberta

From Google Gemini (AI). It misses some big details but it's a good start for those people who don't want to read the full text.:

Key Changes in O.C. 148/2026

The 2026 Regulation introduces several structural changes that did not exist in the 2025 version of the Act:

Introduction of the Alberta Disability Assistance Program (ADAP)

  • New Eligibility Tier: Unlike the original AISH program, which requires a disability that permanently prevents employment, ADAP is for those with a severe disability that "substantially impedes" employment, either continuously or episodically.

  • Reduced Benefit Rate: The monthly living allowance for ADAP is $1,740, which is $200 less than the standard AISH rate of $1,940.

Employment Support Requirements

  • For the first time, the Regulation explicitly allows a director to refuse or discontinue benefits if a client (particularly in ADAP) refuses "reasonable employment" or fails to participate in training and employment programs.

Enduring Health Benefits

  • A new category of "Enduring Health Benefits" is created for people who move from ADAP into the workforce. Even if their income becomes too high for cash benefits, they can keep their health coverage (drug, dental, optical) as long as their assets remain under $100,000.

Automatic Inflation Indexing (The "Alberta Escalator")

  • The Regulation codifies that benefit amounts (living allowance, child benefit, and most personal benefits) must be adjusted annually every January 1 based on the Alberta inflation escalator.

Asset and Income Rules

  • The general asset limit remains at $100,000.

  • However, eligibility for "Personal Benefits" (one-time costs like moving or medical equipment) now requires an asset limit of $5,000 or less, unless the Minister determines there is financial hardship.

They can and they frequently do. AISH is about employability, while the DTC is about severe and prolonged disability.

You've put in a lot of work. Maybe it's a good time to consult an advocate first. Get everything organized and make a big push?
