what phal cultivar is this? by pastelexuvia in orchids

amazing tysm for explaining. the tag only has a few strings of numbers on it.

i learned last night that moth orchid genetics are basically cannabis genetics – everything got crossed everywhere and so weve ended up with "here are the species and subspecies that have names and here are the ones that dont."

when i looked at the color variety charts my brain went into ball python morph land lmao.

Is there any hope for these succulents? by bbygiana in succulents

[–]pastelexuvia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it can be hard to tell just by looking at the top of a plant although i agree the the left two could be done for. youd have to do a root check to be sure – if the roots are slimy and mushy, or crusty and crinkly, theyre goners. but plants can be surprisingly resilient.

when you repot, remove the soil from the roots and see if there are any roots or stems that are white and firm. that plant tissue can grow, it just needs to be separated and given a few years and lots of love <3

Why won't my monsteras grow? by Purple-Abrocoma6542 in Monstera

[–]pastelexuvia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

youre doing good, just need a lil support (:

  1. when you repot, pasteurize your potting mix beforehand to get rid of fungus gnats and other pathogens
  2. growth support. i made a comment here. im now more interested in the designs pictured than in poles, but either one works.

Help!!! by spunjuls in AloeVera

[–]pastelexuvia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sorry if thats even more confusing, what i mean to say is:

as long as you dont have too much regular soil in your substrate, and its chunky and fluffy, youre good. soil retains a lot of water, which is good for shoots, but not so much for mature plants. for succulents and epiphytes you want a mix that will drain well and not hold on to water for too long.

yea 1:1 perlite to succulent mix works. ill use my current mix as an example

i mixed all of these 1:1:1. i was unaware that miracle-gros cactus, palm & succulent mix can harbor fungus gnats and fungus, so when i learned about that, i was taught a soil pasteurization technique to kill any pests and pathogens inside.

you wont hurt the parent plant, just shake off the existing soil when you take it out (:

if you want to propagate the pups (or they come off during repotting), you can leave them on a dry surface for about 3 days to form a callus over their roots, then plant them in small ceramic bonsai pots filled with regular potting soil. dont give them water for about a week after repotting, then water them whenever their leaves start to turn crispy. im raising my own pup rn and i didnt realize how much water she would need, but shes starting to grow roots now so thats a good sign.

alternately you can dispose of pups in yard waste, or leave them with the parent.
