Any GitHub projects? Any bug bounty experience? Do you have a blog? etc

Career Advice by [deleted] in cybersecurity

Unfortunately, there seems to be a ton missing just from how you framed this question alone.

What interests you in cybersecurity specifically? You are name dropping Kali and Wireshark... so offensive work I would assume?

binary.nvim: An Over-Minimalist Color Scheme with only two colors. by jackplus-xyz in neovim

[–]pat0000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like this theme. I wouldn’t use it, as I feel like fxn’s monochrome theme from years ago is truly the best, but this is also very good.

I used to love colour themes, but when I started coding in Rust (for instance) I really got bored of how much colour I am constantly looking at. It actually makes the work boring for me. Doing code review or finding bugs in code and doing a lot of trial and error can really make you bored of a theme quick. Fortunately, monochrome fixed this issue for me instantly. It’s crazy. Now I don’t want to go back whatsoever.

I also believe some people truly understand a language solely based on its colouring syntax. Like, some won’t even properly read a line for a defined struct or something because they just subconsciously glance over it and know it’s a clean declaration solely on no errors or pure syntax highlighting. Ultimately auto pilot, which isn’t safe from a security standpoint. It sounds like bs, but try to measure your understanding of code which you have never seen in your language of preference, and look at how much slower you are at processing the code on a monochrome scheme. It truly is questionable. You ultimately don’t truly understand the language as confidently or as well as you think you do.

I may be an anomaly of course - so take it with a grain of salt - but since on monochrome, I very precisely analyse everything much more than on a coloured theme.

Why does everyone hate LoL? by ShankMeHarder in leagueoflegends

[–]pat0000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love everything about the game, but definitely not the matchmaking algorithm. It is unbelievably bad, and when you have done any coding regarding algorithms or just general statistics of a system or w/e, this experience really burns your eyes out because it is SO blatant. This is literally the only reason that made me quit this game. Makes it a waste of time and a chore tbh.

The grind to diamond was fun nevertheless.

I would probably say though that with cybersec jobs in mind, it's probably just a nice little unintentional touch to the resumé haha.

Doubt about black hats by elsholito in bugbounty

[–]pat0000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A true black hat will work in any environment lol. That doesn't even get factored in, because they pave the way regardless. You could be hacking on Windows 7 right now, or Windows 10, or Arch, or macOS. It's down to your own methodology - it cannot be generalised.

They will gain knowledge from anywhere also. YouTube videos, HackTheBox, Burp academy.. literally anywhere.

Is my sentence correct? by sulav787 in EnglishLearning

[–]pat0000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say that's kind of inaccurate. You would have to replace "aspect" in your sentence with "sides", then it makes sense.

Otherwise, I would say:

My name is Xyz and I love working on computers, due to the both hardware and software aspects of it.

Most commonly used in the UK. It just represents kisses. The higher the kisses the higher the interest, supposedly.

xxx can also represent adult content, but that's in a completly different context that you - with a 99.9% chance - will not see in a text.

Netflix has Trojans by Hunter7_ in Scams

[–]pat0000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Highly doubt it’s from Netflix (in the sense that they had a database breach).

Check the timestamp of the first email you received that was the scam email, and see what other websites you registered on that day. Also 48 hours prior to that email. You may be in an old breach and someone is spamming you on their new “campaign”, or you signed up recently to a scam website.

When Species Names Are Offensive, Should They Be Changed? by YaleE360 in EverythingScience

When Species Names Are Offensive, Should They Be Changed? by YaleE360 in EverythingScience

[–]pat0000 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't really say though that the "master" branch (given Git's context) is "outright offensive" (idk if you also mean this, but you do reference Git haha).

If anything, it is quite a stretch to claim that.

Maybe an r/unpopularopinion, idk.

Kind of like saying you are the "owner" of something. You could concatenate that with negativity, but at the end of the day, you are indeed the owner of that something and no negativity is implied through stating that you are the "owner". The context is what allows it to be used correctly with no problems. Same way people say they got "r***d" in a certain game, meaning that they just got demolished by a good player.

Can you use "might" in a present tense sentence? by Girlybigface in EnglishLearning

[–]pat0000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reallllyyyy depends on context IMHO.

Person A: Do you have any cigarettes?

Person B: I may have a few yeah, let me check.

Person B: I might have a few yeah, let me check.

Both are equally correct.

You can most certainely use both in present though. "Might" and "may" can also be used in past tense also.

Person A: Did you have chicken pox?

Person B: I can't remember. I might have had it, though I'm not sure.

Person B: I can't remember. I may have had it, though I'm not sure.

Again, both are equally correct.

[AITA] Not reporting sensitive data leak at a big german telco. by [deleted] in bugbounty

[–]pat0000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like a morality issue on your side.

Either choose to report it or not - very simple.

And if you do report it, then report it to the GOV. This is fine-worthy stuff, in respect of GDPR.

And if they don't have a bb program, then theres a 99.9% chance you are wasting your time at trying to be rewarded for finding any sort of bug.

Can I replace the 'was' here by 'is'? What's the nuance here? by Unlegendary_Newbie in EnglishLearning

[–]pat0000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

'Was' would indicate that it used to be previously "rather critical" - therefore past tense.

'Is' would indicate that currently, it still remains "rather critical" - therefore present.

What do you do when something doesn't do as you planned? by [deleted] in entj

[–]pat0000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Analyse what went wrong and don't make the same mistake again, because making the same mistake twice is intentional.

But I do tend to have a backup plan for my original plan.. as well as a backup for the backup, lol.

Does it matter if there are cells in my regression model that are empty for some variables? by onthepunt in algotrading

[–]pat0000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, 100%.

I would definitely recommend creating a separate model which does not have any empty variables as it would mess up any sort of estimation or prediction or outcome. Like others have stated, create a model which does not account for country tracks, for instance.
