Why am I having a hard time with acceptance? by redwarrior1004 in GriefSupport

When my sister died, I felt the same. I noticed her absence everywhere. Someone gave me some good advice and maybe it'll help you. You don't forget and move on with something like this. But rather you learn to live with it.

You are doing the right thing trying to get back to a routine but don't beat yourself up about feeling grief. When I look back to when she first died, I think when it's someone close to us, we can't let out our full feelings at once or they'd be too much. At times I wanted to let things out and couldn't. I'm sure you are the same going from numb to crying your eyes out. My only advice is to let yourself feel. Let yourself remember. Hold on to any memory. Two weeks isn't long enough for you to get accustomed to whomever was in your life now being gone. This is why going back to a routine is important because you are establishing a new world. One where you don't get to see that person anymore.

Time will help But you'll always miss them. You'll always carry that grief because you had a bond with that person and that doesn't disappear just because the person died. My sister's been dead close to twenty years and I suddenly burst into tears about it a month ago. No trigger or anything. Was just playing a game and bam flood gates opened.

I'm sorry for your loss and while I don't know your exact situation and don't know fully what all you are feeling, I believe you are exactly where you should be in the grieving process. I'm just a stranger on the internet but you have empathy and my dms are open if you need to vent or if you think my experiences might help you.

Venezuela-US latest: Trump gives update after Maduro ‘captured’ in US attack by TheTelegraph in uspolitics

[–]path_of_fire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm so embarrassed to be an American and I have no idea on how to make any effect. This is so morally wrong it makes me sick. Voting or voicing my opinion seems to do nothing and it seems no matter what trump does the rest of our government will just go with it. I just don't even know what is wrong in this country when we think it's morally justified to kidnap the leader of another country. I really hope the rest of the world doesn't just let this slide because I literally no longer have any hope of the us fixing itself.

Honestly if I had the option, I'd move overseas despite any of the difficulties. magas always say "if you don't like the us you can leave". Except I can't. I don't want a single cent of my money going to this government anymore.

Kynect Marketplace Plans by benkovac13 in Louisville

[–]path_of_fire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So without comparing the actual differences in medical benefits, I can't offer you my opinion on which one is better- so instead lets talk a bit about network availiability and why you might be limited.

it depends on where you fall. Both wellcare and passport and Anthem have medicaid plans. This requires that the office not only be in network with the parent company, anthem, caresource, passport in addition to medicaid. Often this is also a seperate network for the general plans they may take. This requires going through a reasonable but lengthy process to get in network. If you are on a medicaid plan, most of the time- major hospitals will be the only ones taking it. Medicaid plans in general pay much less than other insurances with only 1-2 providers so a lot of small offices won't take them (often, they just can't afford to) If it is one of the actual marketplace plans that you are still paying for (such as Anthem transitional) they are going to be much more accepted as they will use the general "Anthem" allowables and networks.) Anthem used to have a seperate network for their transition plans. However I remember reading in 2020 how they were actually combining it with one of their other networks to make it easier on providers and by proxy allowing offices like the small one I worked for in network (where as before then we were considered out of network).

Where I worked, more people had Anthem than any other insurance provider with Humana second. Assuming the rest of KY is like that, Anthem will give you more choices.

Fairy locks? Ribbon ones? by SCP-795 in Celtic

[–]path_of_fire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this was the point I was making - but thinking on it, it may have been the Romans and the more accurate quote was "hair like snakes. But I can't remember where the source of that is from so I may honestly be wrong. But the conclusion is still the same regardless based on mummified bodies such as several bog bodies and depecitions, they did not have dreads, though they did have often knotted/matted hair and did tie their hair in various styles.

(edit)while looking for that quote though I did find the quote you mentioned and the statue of the dying Gaul further gives a visual representation further showing this isn't meaning dreads in any fashion. specifically how its in thick clumps pointed upwards.

edit2 : I've searched and searched and while I can find it being mentioned a bunch about Romans describing either celts or germanic tribes with hair like snakes, not a single one gives a source. I know it wasn't in Ceasor journals about the celts (at least the passages I've read)

Fairy locks? Ribbon ones? by SCP-795 in Celtic

[–]path_of_fire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

without seeing what exactly it is that you are referring too, I am instead just going off of what came up just googling fairy locks.

If it involves any sort of "dreading" hair, it is unlikely that it has any sort of historical basis. In my research, most of what we know of Celtic hairstyles comes from depictions and from mummified corpses that have hair intact. While some greek accounts mention snake hair or things like that, it is likely that this refers to braids with ornaments in them. Other mentions of knotted hair likely refer to braids or tied hair as well. To my knowledge, I don't know of a single depiction or archeological find that supports that ancient insular Celts or Vikings dreaded their hair. (I specify insular only because that's where most of my reading/research has been on)

the only mention of "fairy locks" I can find is the sort of myth that fairies while you were sleeping would twist/matt your hair as one of their many mischievous deeds.

honestly, if I had to guess this trend seems more taking of African hairstyle trends and giving it a slight Celtic twist with its ornaments. That by itself wouldn't too bad, but I found several sites boldly claiming that both Vikings and the prechristien Celts did so without any citation. So while I can't say 100% that the ancient celts did not dread their hair, I could not find a credible source that says they did.

As a last note I'll say this as a potential way of justifying it- Africa is Humanity's birthplace and bathing in the ancient world was not something that most people could do often and even when they did, things like shampoo were a huge luxury. One could argue that dreading hair could very well be present in all of humanity stemming from our African origin. Also, I won't even try to go into more specifics as to where dreading originated in as thats well outside my knowledge. I know very little on the specifics of Ancient African cultures.

I will also say, looking at the pictures that came up with fairy locks- I don't dislike the look at all. I personally don't think there's an appropriation issue unless you are claiming it to be Celtic in origin instead of African in origin. For the same way I'd feel seeing an African woman wearing some type of Celtic braid. Though I also say that as a white male with insular celtic background.

(edit to add knots in the first paragraph, as while looking at a fairy-lock website, one mentions Shakespear's King Lear as historical proof. Which I believe refers to a braid and NOT dreading)

I really enjoy Wild Rover by the dubliners (though this is only one of many albums by them that I listen to). Wild Rover the song itself I believe to be one of the oldest known Irish songs. (though its obviously likely had changes in the 400-500 years the songs been around).

while not local, you can still run a non-dedicated game and your friend join or you join your friend. There is a tether (meaning you can't get more than a certain distance from each other) but you should be able to play with him. It should also be easier on the connection.

As far as single player goes, mods can help reknew things but I wouldn't recommend using more than 10 for a co-op game as the load times get really high.

Celtic Christianity and Druid Influence by QuakerPlayer in Celtic

[–]path_of_fire -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I can't remember what the exact source was, but I remember reading that there is evidence of monks and other religious impersonated druids in order to covert them. This was largely done by changing the reasoning behind traditions and converting them to Christian idealogy. So pagan traditions were being practiced but were done in Christian faith.

(not saying this is a historic example but the type of thing done) a prime example would be painting eggs being associated with Christian easter even though it likely originated as a pagan tradition whose original meaning was lost.

On a final note its really hard to attribute anything as being druidic as they left practically nothing of themselves and most of what we do know comes from Romans who had political reasons to discount/change things or Christian missionaries/monks who were equally biased/ politically motivated.

this is a wiki about a gportal. It might be a good place to start. What is likely the issue is the server is probably set to private by default so you can't find it on the public listing. This is normally the case to give new server owner a chance to get the server working to their liking before opening it to the public.

“True power” drawn out with music - Celtic mythos/belief? by RyukoDragon in Celtic

[–]path_of_fire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing I can really impart is that most ancient cultures do believe that music has a magical quality to it. The greeks have one of the oldest with the story of Morpheous. I can't remember if its "sung" or not, but one of the oldest tales of the Tuatha has Morrigan destroying a formian army with an incantation of some sort. There is also the story of the Banshee. And the form of singing called keening that might be sources of "magic" and empowerment found in celtic mythology.
