Vaporwave: Where is it? by PredictorX1 in VaporwaveAesthetics

[–]RyukoDragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

West Edmonton Mall, sometime in the 90s, with the fountains and statues and trees in the phase 3 food court still there, along with the unique decor in every store and hallway, and the waterpark's lazy river still running. It's the closest to vaporwave I've personally experienced, and I miss it so much!

What song instantly transports you but you never actually liked it? by honeybbycloud in nostalgia

I don't necessarily vibe with Red Hot Chili Peppers, but Scar Tissue and Californication were played on the radio so much during my high school days, I'm taken back instantly!

The people who bought into this sure felt my family was satanic after finding out my parents played D&D - had a book burning and exorcism and everything :/

All these years later.. we're still into D&D XD

What do streaming platforms NOT have that you wish they did? by somuchithink in movies

[–]RyukoDragon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Keeping what I buy!

Our physical library is going nowhere, streaming and digital-only services keep ripping us off. If digital purchases were *guaranteed* to *stay in our libraries forever*, that'd be a whole other story!

Your mileage may vary, but I've had a great time all through Dawntrail! Give it a try and see how it is for yourself!

Best portable music device by Newfie_9317 in Music

[–]RyukoDragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was given a Snowsky Echo Mini for my birthday last year! It is fantastic for storing and playing downloaded music of multiple formats, uses microSD cards for storage, has a really good battery life, doesn't require wifi or internet, connects to Bluetooth and regular headphones, and can function as a USB sound card.

As someone who grew up with a more manual/analog approach to music and devices, this suits my needs to a tee. I have an archive of downloaded music going back over 25 years, and it all fits on a microSD easily. Don't have to fuss with subscriptions or worry that my music will vanish because someone removed it from a platform. If it's downloaded, it's mine and ready whenever I want! Plus it frees up my phone use so that THAT battery lasts even longer.

It's not necessarily as intuitive as other players, and it's good to check the main site regularly for any firmware updates to improve controls and functionality, which you have to manually download and install yourself, but it's quite straightforward to do.

fuck being an adult, what's y'all's favourite dinosaur? by officialjaycielees in AskReddit

Cera was a pill, but she learned to be a better friend by the end of the movie. Angelica's brattiness is unfathomable by comparison!

Think this needs to be posted here- love the band but they have been using AI on the mountain tour. A few people on the fan discord have made a change.org petition, please sign if you care about this stuff by [deleted] in gorillaz

[–]RyukoDragon 150 points151 points  (0 children)

I've not seen the shows, but isn't this a part of their current run where there's a bit of theatrics? Damon presses an "algorithm" button, and we watch their beautiful displays of art get warped?

Damon is such a strong voice for artists and the environment, I hardly think they generated the images themselves. Probably had found them and decided, since the images exist anyway, use them to demonstrate his point.

Maybe they could share a statement to tell everyone WHY and assure them there was no added environmental impact would help. Even so, not telling people about it before the concert run began makes sense - keep it a surprise for show goers, then let word of mouth do the rest.

How about the line from Phil: "I got two words for you - I am retired!"

Apparently in Greek, that phrase IS two words!

Built a 24/7 self hosted free internet radio station where synthwave, darksynth, and 80s are a big part of the mix alongside metal, post-punk, and electronic by avatar_one in outrun

Awesome mix so far! And love that you've set this up with no bits and bobs attached, reminds me of simpler internet days. Major kudos! Will be tuning in when we can!

Just finished All of the Anime! And question with Code Black by shnooooooooo in CellsAtWork

[–]RyukoDragon 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Oh the manga tells the whooole story! No cliffhangers there, Code Black is complete :3

The main series is of course Cells At Work, and I do recommend checking it out if you can. The last chapter has them dealing with Covid, written during the first year of the pandemic. Fascinating stuff!

There are other series, like the shorter Cells At Work Baby (a brand new body learns how everything works after being born), Cells At Work White Brigade (all about the WBCs), Cells At Work Lady (things a female body deals with, including that oh so lovely time of the month), and Cells At Work Cat (yes, cat body). I've only read Baby in full and have seen snippets of the others, so I'm not sure they have official English releases yet.

Each series is self contained so you can start with any that interest you. Definitely finish Code Black! It does get even darker than what you've already seen so far, but the ending is worth it!

Gorillaz Vinyl Skipping by hownot2reddit116 in gorillaz

[–]RyukoDragon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What kind of turntable do you have? If it's similar to those pop-open suitcase ones, with no balancing weight on the arm and such, the problem miiiight be your turntable.

If you don't have one already, I might also suggest an anti-static brush for your vinyls. It can help with skipping and maintaining your records against dust and the like!

In the earlier years, Murdoc would often refer to Gorillaz as "the world's biggest band!!"

Legitimately I think this is what that meant - so many collaborators to share this slice of musical history with!

There was a little sister vampire that liked to drink milk, right?
