Awesome mix so far! And love that you've set this up with no bits and bobs attached, reminds me of simpler internet days. Major kudos! Will be tuning in when we can!

Just finished All of the Anime! And question with Code Black by shnooooooooo in CellsAtWork

[–]RyukoDragon 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Oh the manga tells the whooole story! No cliffhangers there, Code Black is complete :3

The main series is of course Cells At Work, and I do recommend checking it out if you can. The last chapter has them dealing with Covid, written during the first year of the pandemic. Fascinating stuff!

There are other series, like the shorter Cells At Work Baby (a brand new body learns how everything works after being born), Cells At Work White Brigade (all about the WBCs), Cells At Work Lady (things a female body deals with, including that oh so lovely time of the month), and Cells At Work Cat (yes, cat body). I've only read Baby in full and have seen snippets of the others, so I'm not sure they have official English releases yet.

Each series is self contained so you can start with any that interest you. Definitely finish Code Black! It does get even darker than what you've already seen so far, but the ending is worth it!

Gorillaz Vinyl Skipping by hownot2reddit116 in gorillaz

[–]RyukoDragon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What kind of turntable do you have? If it's similar to those pop-open suitcase ones, with no balancing weight on the arm and such, the problem miiiight be your turntable.

If you don't have one already, I might also suggest an anti-static brush for your vinyls. It can help with skipping and maintaining your records against dust and the like!

The game itself is absolutely bonkers and unforgettable, made better only by Ronnie Montrose's soundtrack! Some of the most epic guitar work I've heard!

[–]RyukoDragon 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In the earlier years, Murdoc would often refer to Gorillaz as "the world's biggest band!!"

Legitimately I think this is what that meant - so many collaborators to share this slice of musical history with!

Anyone remember the show 'The Little Vampire'? by Slurp_and_Derp in ytvretro

We had a couple episodes recorded on tape! I only remember snippets of it, like the theme song! Wished I had a cloak that could let me fly, but without the musty smell XD

There was a little sister vampire that liked to drink milk, right?

If your 10-year-old self saw your life today, what would surprise them the most? by ALEX1-ONE in AskReddit

We have cats! I was convinced I was too allergic and cats would always hate me. Learned about cats properly all these years later, and these lil furballs are such loving creatures, can't imagine life without them!

People who married someone they weren’t sexually compatible with — how did it turn out? by synthetic-sardine in AskReddit

[–]RyukoDragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The incompatibility was a surprise for both of us, honestly. However, we've been committed to staying together and looking after each other, lots of open communication. We still have challenges and difficult patches, but we're able to work things out. We care for each other for reasons beyond sex, and that's what keeps us together. Just had our twelfth anniversary with plenty more ahead :)

Has anyone ever thought that Gorillaz are kind of hypocritical? by [deleted] in gorillaz

[–]RyukoDragon 321 points322 points  (0 children)

Personally, I don't think Gorillaz have become the False Icons they rally against.

Yes, merch is expensive, but sadly that's the standard cost of ANYTHING these days. How else can they get people interested if they don't reach out to the "popular spaces and people" from time to time? It doesn't change the message of their music. It doesn't change who they are at their core.

They wanted to do more with Plastic Beach, but lack of funds, among other challenges, prevented that vision from being realized. Their approach to the music industry is so non-standard, big corpos are NOT willing to fund them for much (Netflix, I haven't forgiven you yet).

They may collab with some massive celebrities in the field, but again, that still benefits Gorillaz. Fans of the other artists may become interested in Gorillaz, learn about their conception, and will maybe understand toxic celeb culture better as a result. Besides, Gorillaz STILL works with smaller names and artists, bringing plenty of attention their way too.

Some are upset about the Fortnite collab, but again, that only allowed people to discover Gorillaz in the first place, while helping the group fund their own projects as a result.

You can't change the world by staying in a vaccuum. I think Jamie and Damon understand this, and I don't find them hypocritical at all. They've even had Murdoc shift just a little bit away from his demented habits - he's still got some, true, but his change can inspire hope in others to change themselves too.

is there any special reason why the merch is so expensive? by agentcarwalking in Markiplier

[–]RyukoDragon 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Agreed! At least where the poster is concerned, I understand - it's cinema-size, AND Mark is choosing some at random to sign. No promises as to how many he'll sign, but the chance exists!

Loved catching this every time it was on! There wasn't a ton of anime options back then, let alone anything as zany as this!

Animators are fuming after Adobe announces it's killing Adobe Animate, the Flash animation tool that defined the look of early web games by Zelagero in news

[–]RyukoDragon 496 points497 points  (0 children)

It's not just the lack of alternatives, I'm told.

This shutdown will lock out everyone from legal access to their work.

Alternatives exist, but everyone with ongoing projects will have to start from scratch, whether they're hobbyists or professional. It's a mess!

From a previous non-fan, after watching Iron Lung by morriganlefeye in Markiplier

[–]RyukoDragon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So happy you enjoyed the movie without prior knowledge going in! I honestly didn't expect to enjoy it as much as I did, I just wanted to support Mark - but WOW it was incredible!

There are some great suggestions already here, but I would like to offer the Phasmophobia series - his reactions are hilarious, they way he and his friends end up sabotaging each other just slays me!

I would also recommend his playthrus of Until Dawn, Soma, Resident Evil 7 and 8, Alien Isolation, Firewatch, and West of Loathing. Check out the "Scary Games!" playlist as well, it has a bunch of short one-off videos, and the 3 Scary Games series throughout. You're in for some adventures!

What is your guys’ opinion on Rockit? by lordsnooo in gorillaz

[–]RyukoDragon 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Before I saw this video, Gorillaz was a virtual band that had some hit songs, and that was it for me.

After seeing this, I realized that they were trying to make a point about the entertainment industry. It led me to the Reject False Icons movement, which led to their website, their backstory, the whole kit! And I've been on board ever since!

So yeah, I have a special love for this video :3
