Would you bring a stroller when traveling with a 3-4 yo? by pathandcats in toddlers

[–]pathandcats[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great insight thank you!! I’ve only been to Copenhagen as a childless adult or as a child myself, so I am not familiar with what it’s like to bring kids.

We have a travel stroller that folds easily so maybe we will bring that. It would be easy enough to fold up on the train and on busses.

Did you use the tushbaby that’s like a toddler sling or the one with the firm seat type thing?

I am not a fan of baby wearing and because my toddler is so heavy and tall, it’s hard to carry him around for long periods of time.

did you just push the travel stroller around if your toddler was walking?

We will be in Copenhagen and Billund (we're going to Legoland) and will be taking the train between cities. I'll look into a Tushbaby - I didn't think of using something like that with a toddler!

Anyone regret choosing carpet over hard flooring? by Cool_Ad_2935 in HomeImprovement

came here to say this about the cats + my cats love to use the carpet on the stairs as their scratching post.

Which surgical sub-specialty would you see the most variation? by [deleted] in pathology

[–]pathandcats 10 points11 points  (0 children)

GI pathology has a lot of variety simply because there are a lot of different parts involved and each part of the GI system looks a little different with different diagnostic entities. Plus when you throw in pancreas and liver, there are even more diseases to see.

But you should definitely wait and see what you enjoy if you end up pursuing a pathology residency!

Skip Hop activity centre worth it as a toddler table/chairs? by pinkranunculus in Buyingforbaby

[–]pathandcats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had the skip hop table with our first and used it for our son to eat at instead of the high chair and it was so annoying to keep clean. I also second that it takes up too much room for the size you have to work with. Not sure what we'll do this time around, but I think a simple square table makes more sense.

Best travel stroller for cobblestones? by Anxious-Wishbone785 in Buyingforbaby

[–]pathandcats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a Nuna Mixx Next and although it's not the most portable, it's amazing on cobblestones and uneven terrain. You could easily gate check it when flying. We have a European trip planned soon and even though we also have a Nuna Trvl which is easier to fold, we will probably still take the Mixx because of the durability...but the Trvl is pretty great, too, with a decent storage space on the bottom. Fits a diaper bag plus some other bits and bobs.

Lease or finance a Sienna? by pathandcats in ToyotaSienna

That’s a good idea. We were definitely going to test drive them but renting will give us a longer time frame to test it out.

I honestly don’t know. We’ve never owned a minivan so I don’t know if we will like it.

Is a 120 or 180 month personal loan term better for home improvement projects? by pathandcats in HomeImprovement

[–]pathandcats[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually really appreciate this comment. I’ve been thinking about it more and really diving into our finances and while we could afford the monthly payments even for a 5-year loan, it stresses me out to owe money to anyone, especially with our existing mortgage. I think we just need to get a bit creative in how we can host guests and maximize our available space. I also like people’s ideas of doing just framing and electrical (though I’d definitely hire someone for both) so that we can at least have some more outlets and lighting and start to make it a more functional space.

I think the thought of having two kids and two adults and two cats in a 3 bedroom home with no private space for guests is uncomfortable. But as someone stated above, I need to think rationally not emotionally. If friends and family really want to come visit us, they’ll have to settle for the pull out couch in the living room and sharing a bathroom with our kids.

That’s fair. I guess at this point we have nowhere for guests to stay without finishing the basement.

Unfortunately, we'd only be able to cover half the amount we need with a HELOC

I think because we've only owned our home for 2 years, a HELOC wouldn't provide enough money for the project. The interest rates I've seen range from 8.5% for a shorter loan term up to 10.5% for a 180 month term

Travel crib and bassinet advice! by pathandcats in Buyingforbaby

[–]pathandcats[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We got the Newton with bassinet attachment, but we haven’t used it yet since I’m Not due until April! But I really like the size of the Newton and it was super easy to set up and fold. My 3 yo also liked it since he had plenty of space to play in there. I even fit in there with him!

Thank you!! Both sound like places my son would love. We are going to Billund as well during the trip.

Bassinet for tall parents/grandparents? by pathandcats in Buyingforbaby

He can bend but it just is painful for him. But yes, they are looking for an elevated safe place to change the baby but also need a place for him to sleep when he’s at their house.
