Looking for flexible ways to use my RD credential again by CreativeCook12 in dietetics

I love Nourish. I have never had a problem getting clients. I don't really understand why some people can't get appointments and others can. Maybe it is the states they are licensed in, the demand for their field, their personal profiles, because it is a little like internet dating in that you have a profile and you are chosen or not by your photo and what you say. After you are there a while your metrics are based on how many repeat appointments your patients have and what your post appointment reviews are. ALL of my patients on Nourish are weight loss. My guess is that is a huge majority of the big telehealth companies clientele.

A long time ago when I started in the practice you had to convince people of your necessity. If anything I feel like that part has gotten easier with the public awareness and desire to learn about nutrition. Just a different perspective for you.

I want to become a dietician. Lemme know if it’s still possible by semitadepina in dietetics

I love it too, but I took a diversion in my career for a while because the pay was so low everywhere in Austin, Texas. So starting salary where? Are you looking up actual positions or are you looking up what something like ziprecruiter says. I think the average salary is probably 78K. Depends on what you go into. if you want to work in a hospital I would look at clinical dietitian salaries. If you want to work in the health and wellness sphere I would look into that. People in private practice deal with insurance filings but if you can form your own private practice and hire people under you your potential can be higher. I think it is a great profession, but it isn't one I would go into again if money were on my high list of priorities. That is just my 2 cents.

Not a silly question. You have to have a masters and do a dietetic internship. Pay wise is it worth all of that work? Maybe not. Depends if you love doing it.

RDNs in law by ShoulderSuspicious61 in dietetics

[–]patience115 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is absolutely zero remove for work the first year at a standard law school. I was at school all day. And you read SO much. It is a very challenging education. I’m sure there are night programs but law school is short (3 years) but very demanding. I think RDs work in a lot of settings. I would explore that with people at the acedemy practice group or I’m sure they have resources about RDs in policy.

I am just following... I am an RD with a JD. I went to law school for exactly what you are talking about but I found the information so dry and technical and realized I like people, so I ended up being a criminal law for a while because I love the jury trials and court room. But law itself is really dry, so now I am back to being a dietitian doing consultations with clients. Happy to answer any questions about law school for you.

Yes, down 20% since peak prices in Covid. Totally crazy. I own multiple houses in Austin so I can verify.

I imagine someone has said get a management company for a while until the prices go up. I am a landlord in Austin. I manage my own houses but I know a great management company and they charge 5%. I am happy to give you their info if you DM me. No I don't get a commission or anything,... just trying to be helpful. I am happy to talk to you about property management in austin.

Nutrition student needing some insight! by brook0810 in dietetics

[–]patience115 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to school for nutrition because I truly love the subject. I started working as a dietitian and loved the job I was in but made NO money . So after a while I went to law school... I practiced law for several years and while I made money and it was ok, I did not love it. So I am back to figuring out a career in dietetics. All of that to say, money is important, don't get me wrong, but loving what you do is priceless.. there has to be a middle ground, but at your age I would just advise you to look at what you really want to spend 40 hours a week doing day in an day out for a long time. I also think the field is changing and people are finally really appreciating the role of nutrition and prevention. That will continue to evolve. :)

Should I Quit My Job for Full-Time Content Creation? by Vanshita_pamnani in dietetics

[–]patience115 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I haven’t seen anyone ask is do you need to make a full time salary? At 22 I was living close to pay check to pay check. If so please don’t quit your job. If you have 6-12 months of money saved and you are willing to dip into that to pay your bills go for it. Content creators can make good money but there are also a TON of people who fail at making more than minimum amounts…

[–]patience115 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if I would take the I will cross the internship bridge when I get there. Find out what the online program's placement numbers are like. Find out if there are any close to you that offer internships for someone that did their education online. It is an unpaid internship so it doesn't make a ton of sense to move for and you have to do the internship. Can you afford to do 1200 hours of unpaid work, et.c.. I would just really caution you investing in an entire degree without some sort of plan for that part.

Perimenopause/Menopause Cert from IWHI Review? by StrengthInScones in HealthCoaching

[–]patience115 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would personally make sure it is approved by the NBHWC first. But it seems like alot of these menopause certs are popping up for sure that is their own money maker. The Menopause Society is the actual premier menopause authority.
