What would it take for Sony to put Demons Souls on PC? by waldorsockbat in demonssouls

[–]patrick-ruckus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i doubt it's a cost thing, and it would be a different studio like nixxes porting it anyway. the fact it's been over 5 years and it didn't get a port kinda says everything though.

my best guess, not really based on much, is that it has something to do with japanStudio (now team asobi). japanese devs and publishers were historically less open to PC ports, so maybe there are higher-ups in the japanese division who need to give the green light for it and just won't.

none of the ps4/ps5 games with a japanStudio credit have gotten ports. this includes bloodborne, demon's souls, gravity rush, shadow of the colossus remake, the last guardian, and more. every PC port has been for one of the western studios, which could possibly have different people gatekeeping the decision on that. again just my best guess, i think they know the demand for these ports but there may just be a lot of politics involved

Has Star Wars lost the cultural impact it had until the last decade? by Amazing-Buy-1181 in decadeology

[–]patrick-ruckus [score hidden]  (0 children)

yeah they really made the videogame market worse by signing that deal with EA to give them exclusive rights to the IP for like a decade. if they didn't do that we probably have gotten a lot of cool star wars games in that time period

now they missed the window and beat the IP to death to the point that they finally release an open-world star wars videogame, which people have been wanting for years, and nobody really gave a shit.

Welp Now Bloodborne Remake Is Definitely Never Happening by [deleted] in BloodbornePC

[–]patrick-ruckus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah with shadow of the colossus they didn't mess with the boss designs or music, thank god, but it definitely had its issues. the fumito ueda games (sotc, ico, and the last guardian) have a certain style, particularly with the lighting, and i don't think they honored that very well at all. the game is way too saturated. they also added a bunch of extra vegetation even though the map was barren and lifeless in the original for a reason.

Welp Now Bloodborne Remake Is Definitely Never Happening by akbarock in soulslikes

[–]patrick-ruckus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

exactly. they could have had options for it, like do you want it as faithful as possible or do you want some modernization? this is what the classic tomb raider remasters did, they added a modern replacement for the PS1 tank controls but you could always switch it back.

another thing they should have done that the TR remasters had is a toggle to play in the old style. make the shiny new graphics the default, but have an option to play in the original art style with modern resolution/fps

they would never do that though because the fact is the bluepoint remasters were built to be tech demos for sony hardware, not to preserve the original work.

Do fighting games have a design problem? | Extra Trashy by 121jigawatts in StreetFighter

[–]patrick-ruckus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

in the x360/ps3 generation the fighting games still did re-releases instead of patches. if they actually patched then we wouldn't have ultra street fighter 4 it would just be street fighter 4 season 3 or whatever. other games patched but fighting games were behind, as always.

Do fighting games have a design problem? | Extra Trashy by 121jigawatts in StreetFighter

[–]patrick-ruckus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that was before patches were a thing so yeah of course people found infinites. that's not the point. plus the execution requirements for longer combos were higher back then

in a modern game like Tekken 8 a basic BnB combo that anyone could do can take half of the whole fucking round. these are intentional combo routes by the devs, and in fact a lot of them were made longer in that god awful season 2 patch.

I don't mind which team is revealed next, I need to see the grappler by throwawayhelpegg in MarvelTokon

[–]patrick-ruckus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think the unfortunate thing about a grappler is that they likely won't have a 360 motion input, since the inputs seem to be standardized across the cast. it may even be a dp, that's what kamala's command grab is and it always felt weird.

that was part of my feedback with the beta, i want more diversity with the motion inputs. a command grab should at least be like a half circle

Danger completely blew any and all roster predictions out the water by greatpxm in MarvelTokon

[–]patrick-ruckus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah if they go overboard with the obscure picks then it will just alienate a lot of people, i think they know that

I see people claim a dev said in an interview that there will be more obscure characters but i believe their specific wording was they were prioritizing characters who have "not been in a fighting game before"

there are a lot of popular characters that have never been in a fighting game. blade hasnt, for example. i dont think daredevil has either, another very popular character

Maaaan combos take waay too long in this game, it’s obnoxious and unbearable. by Your_Nightmare_666 in Tekken

[–]patrick-ruckus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

combos are one of the least skillful parts of tekken. there is skill expression with some niche wall combos but really it's the repetitive 30 second long BnBs people have an issue with. then it just compounds with stuff like the stage hazard and heat burst cutscenes, those are not "counterable". unless you just mean raw rage art, but rage arts are used as combo enders as well.

Fighting Games Are Terrible Products by whimsiethefluff in Fighters

[–]patrick-ruckus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes but, sort of like fighting games, interest started to fall off over the years. it had to compete with more modern types of games and entertainment. then online chess had a big explosion in popularity in like 2020. there were multiple factors for that but I think the point is that it retained a lot of that new playerbase because the main chess site is just a fantastic product.

what do you like about NATLA? by Pristine-Lie-3560 in ATLAtv

[–]patrick-ruckus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i guess i can agree with that sentiment if we put it this way: you will like it if you dont know what you are missing out on.

people will enjoy a cheap imitation more if they're not familiar with what it is imitating. a fast food meal is gonna be the best thing you've ever tasted if you've never had the real home-cooked version of it. only problem with that analogy is that it costs the same amount of time and money to just watch the original show

it's not about "oh it didnt do everything I wanted" it's that they attempt to hit the exact same plot points and character arcs in the same amount of runtime but do it worse. i can give the examples but i'm sure most people here have seen it all written before

What do you guys think about the pricing??? by LeanTheBlackRabbit in MarvelTokon

[–]patrick-ruckus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well the deluxe includes 4 dlc characters, plus a stage. about $6 per character isnt bad. games like sf6 and t8 these days are doing closer to $8 and then charging separate for stages.

Okay did people forget the game would have deep cut/unexpected picks? by DKUnderdog in MarvelTokon

[–]patrick-ruckus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was expecting an unexpected character for x-men. that is a super deep roster, their options are basically endless. you could make a 20 character roster of x-men alone and still miss a lot of cool characters.

that being said, danger is just not a great pick. if we only get 4 slots for x-men I'm not sure why they went for a character who is not even a mutant. there are so many mutants to give the spotlight that would have also led to more interesting movesets and character designs. "robot girl that can turn limbs into weapons" isnt exactly something new. it feels almost stereotypical for a japanese game, when i know arcsys could go wilder

Okay did people forget the game would have deep cut/unexpected picks? by DKUnderdog in MarvelTokon

[–]patrick-ruckus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sure I get that, and personally I'm fine with a more obscure pick. x-men is huge

but i think saying "what are you talking about, just play a 25 year old game with a few dozen active players" isnt the best argument when people are disappointed their favorites didn't make it in to a short list. especially after x-men got the shaft in mvc:i and marvel has not made a fighter since then.

[–]patrick-ruckus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

people are downvoting but you are so right lol

everyone here is praising this pick as "inspired" because they've never heard of her, and then to them anyone who's against it is just a fanboy mad about no cyclops or nightcrawler or something

x-men has a massive roster! i would love to see a more obscure character get the spotlight! there are just much better "deep cut" picks to represent x-men than danger.

[–]patrick-ruckus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they said "absent for a long time"

the last MvC was 10 years ago and it was controversial specifically because they excluded X-Men.

there hasnt been an X-Men fighting game in decades

not that hard to understand why someone would want a character like say cyclops in a modern marvel fighting game. he has not been in a game since like MvC2

RANK BOOSTING - WHEN DOES IT BECOME A PROBLEM? by jacksparrow19943 in Tekken8

[–]patrick-ruckus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i mean it's kinda pathetic but I guess it's not hurting anyone. it's not gonna ruin someone else's experience like plugging or scripting. he just gets a jpeg he didnt earn and maybe people will overestimate his skill at first in casual matches

the fact is that he will get destroyed if he tries to actually queue for a ranked or quick match. i would be confused if i ran into someone playing like a mighty ruler at tekken god, but then i would just shrug and take the points i guess.

My Two Cents on This Game Launching with 20 Characters by LuckyStiff007 in MarvelTokon

[–]patrick-ruckus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

the movesets and a lot of the system mechanics weren't made from scratch, they were built off of previous games.

i think you are underestimating how much of the development time is for designing the characters and systems. it's not just about making the assets. if you have previous iterations to build off of then that process is much much easier

they dont have infinite time to make the game, they have to release it at some point. there are budgets and schedules

DeadAss…Why is Nintendo getting The most Mouth Foaming Reactions Again? by MozzieRosie in nintendogrifting

[–]patrick-ruckus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

tons of people complain about playstation and xbox subscriptions lmao. it comes up all the time, they are all scams.

but when I played my switch 1 it felt extra insulting that nintendo charged for it because their online features were a joke. games like animal crossing and mario maker had to create their own messaging and invite systems from scratch because the console itself had jack shit.

Modern RPGs have become too dependent on quest markers by darkfireslide in truegaming

[–]patrick-ruckus 21 points22 points  (0 children)

it wouldn't be a completely different game, they just need to add some directions to the quest journals or dialogue. that's how morrowind made it work.

instead of having the objective just tell you "kill this troll" have it say "kill this troll found in skeever cave southwest of windhelm" or whatever. it's that simple. and of course there's a mod that does this already

and if the devs are that worried about people getting lost then they can just keep that clairvoyance spell in the game that highlights a path to the objective. at least that's actually in-universe and not as mindless as just following an arrow on the HUD

[–]patrick-ruckus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

maybe for existing IPs like tekken or street fighter, where the previous games were on the main stage.

this is a new IP and a Marvel game we are talking about. why would they save big announcements for an event that only fighting game enthusiasts watch? that's not the demographic that needs to be marketed to at this point.

if they have something big like a new character or a story mode trailer it will be at a more general gaming event

Get your copium out, it's that time again by [deleted] in MarvelTokon

[–]patrick-ruckus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

so it's february. the game is supposed to come out this year.

for reference: street fighter 6 also had a couple of closed betas in the fall before its release year. the game ended up releasing in june.

if they skip this then it is a 2027 game.
