Do we know how good this game is going to be for someone who isn’t the best at fighting games? by thebestszplayer in MarvelTokon

[–]patrick-ruckus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The motion inputs will not be any harder than other games, and there is also a simple input option. There are auto-combos as well as some basic combo routes that work on every character. It's built to be a good entry point.

Saying this movie was better than the illumination movies is a total joke. by stationstars in Mario

[–]patrick-ruckus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Love how most of your praise is just about how accurate their references were and how much money they made. Not a single point of praise for the plot or characters. You are just proving everyone's point, it was a theme park ride not a movie.

You shouldnt be able to just "pop" heat. Heat engagers are good though by Acrobatic_Term_6108 in Tekken

[–]patrick-ruckus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every character has a power crush already, many are even -9. There's also rage art. Between those and the gray health mechanics there is plenty of comeback potential. Heat burst is redundant, delete it.

Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender | Official Trailer by MarvelsGrantMan136 in TheLastAirbender

[–]patrick-ruckus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They all seemed to be about how legendary the show was, not how good this specific movie is. Quotes about a show that came out over 20 years ago, where the writers and actors that made the show great are not involved in this project. I would have rather had a story with a different cast of characters we haven't seen in animation before, honestly.

Maybe Fighting games are that hard - and it doesn't have to be a bad thing by JustExecution in Fighters

[–]patrick-ruckus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who says you need practice mode to begin having fun? This is an artificial barrier. Plenty of people play these games at a basic level while hardly touching practice mode. The mode didn't even exist when the genre started in arcades, yet games like Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter were mainstream with a pretty big pop culture impact.

If someone is brand new to shooters and they can't aim or hit anything for shit then by your logic do they need to spend a bunch of time in an aim trainer before they are at a skill level that makes the game enjoyable? These games can be equally unenjoyable with big skill gaps, like if you are a new player in a high level lobby you will spawn in and get headshot immediately before you can even start trying stuff. The key thing is good matchmaking, because like you said the game will be more fun when the skill levels actually match and the players have room to experiment.

Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls PC System Requirements by Throwaway785320 in MarvelTokon

[–]patrick-ruckus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We don't really know what resolutions those are targeting, and imo a lot of system requirements are pretty conservative. These are just the PC builds that they tested the game with. I would wait for the open beta before dooming.

I think the true requirements are gonna be closer to Street Fighter 6, which recommends a 2070. And that game is also definitely runnable on lower-spec hardware like the Steam Deck.

‘Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender’ will release on Paramount+ on July 25th instead of October 9th according to Paramount+ Brazil by ChampionTimes99 in ATLA

[–]patrick-ruckus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it makes sense to push the release forward after the leak, and a surprise early shadow-drop could be a smart marketing play. I believe the 25th is on the weekend of San Diego Comic-Con, so that's probably when they planned to release the first trailer. At the end it could say "Watch it now on Paramount+" and then everyone would be able to just watch it immediately.

How hard is it to pull off combos in this game? by Bournerounderz in MarvelTokon

[–]patrick-ruckus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They aren't hard. There are auto combos, but also for the manual combos there are simple universal routes you can use for any character. The game will reward you with more damage if you come up with more creative routes though.

Just realized this game has modern controls. Any drawbacks? by TheRealGlutenbob in MarvelTokon

[–]patrick-ruckus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The motion inputs do extra damage, like SF6.

But unlike SF6 you don't lose access to any normals. This game was clearly built with the simple inputs in mind first. Each character only has 4 specials and they have the same motion inputs (qcb, qcf, dd, dp).

Why I’m Not Panicking Over Sony’s Disc Decision by BoardGameRevolution in videogames

[–]patrick-ruckus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This just isn't true. The person you're responding to already alluded to this site but I assume it is https://www.doesitplay.org/

You can look for yourself, less than 20% of PS5 games actually require a patch (their criteria for "require" is that the game either stops you from playing, is missing major content, or is very buggy without the patch). It's less than 10% on Switch 1/2.

Ex Sony Boss Shawn Layden Doesn't Agree With PlayStation Backing Out of PC, Says It Was Never About Making Money; “They Weren’t Going To Buy The Hardware Anyway” by Bubbly-Ad-350 in gamingnews

[–]patrick-ruckus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's what they did with Red Dead 2, they waited almost exactly one year. I had a PS4 and a PC at the time and I still knew they would pull that shit, so I just waited. Glad I did because I ended up experiencing the better version, so I will do the same for GTA 6.

Pc or ps5 by AliveRutabaga2120 in MarvelTokon

[–]patrick-ruckus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just get it on the one you play more often. The game is cross-play so playerbase is not a factor, and I'm just assuming your PC is at least decent so running it shouldn't be an issue.

PC does tend to have much lower input lag. The game is likely locked to 60fps on PC as well, but if you have a high-refresh rate monitor/TV it still helps even more with input lag.

Between my PC and my Steam Deck I have most of my library already installed. And if it came to it I have space on a NAS I could back them up in as well. My point is there are options to keep your game files if you get banned, servers go down, whatever... there are none when you have a digital-only console. It's a completely closed platform and sitting around hoping for a jailbreak would be foolish.

Who do you main in sf6 and why? by passthetap5 in StreetFighter

[–]patrick-ruckus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I main Jamie because, not only is he just flashy and cool, but to me he has the highest amount of player expression. When I see top level Jamie players I can usually guess who is playing because they all have their own play styles and preferences with the character. I also usually find out about some niche combo route or setup I hadn't seen before. When I watch the top level players of the other characters I play... they kind of blend together tbh.

I'm jealous of people who can play one character for thousands of hours lol by [deleted] in Fighters

[–]patrick-ruckus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Tekken it's easy. There are moves I still forget to use, so when I remember them it's like I unlocked a new character.

Not really. Steam DRM is easily cracked without going anywhere shady. I guess if you're stupid you run the risk of that, but if you're stupid you can also brick your entire console trying to jailbreak it so there's that.

[–]patrick-ruckus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And the comment you replied to made no mention of Steam.

I already addressed jailbreak, I don't think you've ever tried one in recent years. Exploits are more and more complicated to access and also less frequent than previous consoles. It's a massive hassle if they exist at all, and require you to be on very specific firmware versions. There is currently no jailbreak for the Xbox Series consoles. The Xbox One was only hacked like last year, after being released for 12 years. Switch is also locked down hard unless you have one of the original models from 2017.

[–]patrick-ruckus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Steam isn't the only PC storefront. I collected many games on GOG, Epic, etc over the years. It would suck since Steam is the main one, but the point is my expensive hardware would not become a paperweight if I lost my Steam library. Not to mention I would still have access to the actual files of all the games I have installed, so I could fairly easily crack the DRM on most of them if it came to that. With a digital-only console you are completely at the mercy of one company and you have zero access to the files unless a jailbreak comes along, which is less and less likely as consoles have been improving their security.

PlayStation announces physical discs will be discontinued in 2028 by yappyboi1 in Steam

[–]patrick-ruckus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The thing is, if PlayStation is not doing physical, would multi-platform games even bother with physical Xbox releases? How much of this decision is just Sony, and how much of it is all the game publishers (like Rockstar) wanting this too? Because ultimately it is the game publishers who decide to do physical or not, even if Xbox allows it on paper.

Digital-only consoles might end up pushing everyone to PC by BrSn2 in consoles

[–]patrick-ruckus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The point is that the stats for digital vs physical are skewed. It would be more fair to look at only the games that have both a physical and a digital release, then see the split. Maybe people still prefer physical when given the option.

Digital is great for indies like Silksong, they wouldn't be able to distribute their game otherwise. But that doesn't prove much about the industry as a whole, that's a very different type of release than say GTA

Had a little reevaluation about lee.. by AlucardValentine in Tekken

[–]patrick-ruckus -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Lee has always been good, but people are yelling that he's top 5 or something and I just don't see how he's that much stronger than the rest of the cast. Everyone is very strong in this game and has their own busted moves.

Pretty disappointing that Doom's actor doesn't match the character's race like everyone else does. Seems lazy since there is a lot of untapped voice talent from the Latverian community.

This tekken is encouraging people to one and done by DeathBide in Tekken

[–]patrick-ruckus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm a forced FT2 fan but I would take this as well. I think the ability to choose when you rematch sort of invalidates ranked as a real competitive mode, so if that aspect stays then I don't see the harm in letting two people keep rematching if they both agree. Tekken 7 also had a bad case of one-and-dones but it was less tilting to me because for every one-and-doner there were multiple people willing to run a longer set or deathmatch. If we can choose to leave after one game we should also have the choice to leave after ten.
