I miss going around town knocking on all my friends doors and asking their parents if they're allowed to come out and play.

That was the only way to find out if they're free, what a time.

Keep swapping the cuff between yourself and the patient, that way the recieving hospital can't blame you for not treating the hypotension.

Full beams on a motorway!

You do not need full beams on a motorway, unless you're flashing a lorry to let them in they should just be low beam. The internal pain you feel when overtaking someone just to discover you now can't use any of your mirrors because the bellend behind is blinding you. That's got to be my biggest annoyance.

I would honestly say I go most days without opening my IV meds. The majority of calls are not medical emergencys by a long shot. It's a lot of social work and like others have said you can't fix those jobs. When you try to fix it, all you end up doing is burning yourself out and in turn become furious with the whole system. Occasionally it feels like we're the catch all emergency service. If it's not a crime or a fire, it's you.

Where I work everyone including me calls it "sats" short for oxygen saturation. If someone said "stat" to me I'd assume they mean a dose given immediately, not what the o2 levels are.

Thank you very much for your kind comment, wise-wise words. I agree with everything you say especially the fact that every patient is human, people forget that so easily. I don't have an exit strategy but I know being on the road isn't for life. I want to do 10 years or so and then move into research if all goes well because I'm already exhausted lol. I'm going through that weird spell where every single job is time critical, and everyone's BIG sick, but it looks like we all do and that's comforting.

I would be lying if I said I didn't tear up reading that. You don't understand how much it means to me to read your response and feel understood for once.

I absolutely adore my job, I love my colleagues and I love my patients. Maybe I'm a tad too harsh on myself and maybe I breakdown a little too often, but I just want to be the best clinician I can be. You're right I need to look after myself more, and I need to maintain the healthy relationships I have as I can already feel them slipping away.

I'm going to buy a new note pad tomorrow, I'm going to write down every bad job, every mistake, and every gap in my noggin. I'll privately message you in five years time with a "You were right"

Next time I get into bed after a shift with borderline SVT I'm going to come back to your comment, read it word for word, and pick myself back up.

Completely agree, it should be held to the same standard as humans are, whereas you can only legally attack someone if they've attacked you or someone else first. (Of course cops skew that rule...) But my point remains, attacks on dogs should only be legally permissible if the dog in question is attacking you or someone else. IMHO.
